  • Learning Maya is Child's Play Article
  • When 15-year-old Daniel Grigsby attended the 6th Form Open Evening, an event showcasing pre-university courses available for study, he had no idea his destiny was about to reveal itself. He immediately headed over to the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) stand with an air of curiosity and child-like excitement. “What’s Maya?” he asked the man behind the stand, as he pointed to a small book on the table. “It’s computer animation software. Films like Spider-Man®, The Lord of the Rings™ Trilogy and many others use it to create all kinds of special effects,” was the enthusiastic response. “I want to work in special effects,” Daniel almost whispered. His eyes were dancing as he picked up the book and lingered over its pages. “Well, you’ve come to the right place,” smiled the man. That was a year ago and the man behind the stand was Rob Jones, Digital Arts Facilitator and Maya instructor at Lewisham City Learning Centre (CLC). Daniel has since worked on two animated films and is preparing to attend Bournemouth University, a leading school in computer animation. “When I met Rob Jones by accident, I was very lucky. I am now able to learn this sophisticated software long before going to university,” says Daniel. “Having this experience has given me the encouragement to work hard to achieve my goal.” Download pdf Learning Maya is Child's Play
  • DOSCH DESIGN Using Dosch Textures PDF
  • Using Dosch Textures in 3D Studio MAX In order to properly use the textures in 3D Studio MAX please verify the location (drive-letter; e.g. D: or E:) where your image-maps are located. Then open the File/Configure-Paths page in 3DSM, switch to the “Bitmap”-section and enter the path to the IMAGE-folder on your CD-ROM at the “Configure-Paths” setting If the Raytracer fails to find a texture in any of the 3DSM-default folders, it now automatically searches through the extra locations defined in the “Configure- Paths” on the “Bitmap”-page. To add a path to the Path-List, press the ‘ADD’-button and select the folder containing the image-maps for your textures, e.g. the IMAGE-folder on the product’s CD-ROM. Using Dosch Textures in LightWave3D / Inspire3D Load the *.lws or *.lwo files directly in LightWave 3D or Inspire3D. In some cases the image maps for the different material-layers may not load automatically. If a path-requester appears, locate the IMAGES-folder on the CD-ROM and select the appropriate image. Using Dosch Textures in Cinema4D In order to properly use the textures in Cinema4D please define the location where your image-maps are located. Cinema4D lets you define up to 10 extra texture locations on the ‘Preferences/Texture Paths’-page. If the Editor or the Raytracer fails to find a texture in any of the default folders, then it automatically searches through the extra locations, defined in the ‘path page’. This search is recursive, i.e. the search includes the named folder, plus all its subfolders. So just add the folder where your
  • Program in ArcGIS using the .Net framework and C#
  • This guide assumes that the reader has a basic understanding of what ArcGIS and the .Net framework is, as well as a rudimentary understanding of how object oriented programming works. For more information about .Net and object oriented programming, follow the links in Appendix B. In order to program with ArcGIS there are two products that you will need to have installed on your computer. First, you must have either ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS ArcInfo or else have the ArcGIS Engine installed. Once these one of these are installed you will be able to run the code you compile in the ArcGIS environment. The other ArcGIS product you need is the Developer Tools for Microsoft.Net that provides access to the .Net framework and the functions that ESRI has made for .Net as well as the Developer tools that install an API for ArcObjects. It is also important to make sure that your software is up to date, which you can do by checking the ESRI website to see if there are updates or service packs for your software (this tutorial was written using ArcGIS 9.2 Service Pack1). The other major required software is a C#.Net compiler. I recommend using Microsoft Visual Studio, because ESRI has created various resources to make coding faster and easier for that environment. If you are looking for a free compiler you can try using the Microsoft Visual Studio C# Express edition, or the SharpDevelop program which is an open-source initiative. Links to these programs are provided in Appendix

  • Delphi/400 for PHP RAD for the Web Reaches System
  • Delphi/400 is a suite of application modernization tools designed to enable System i application developers to build completely new Web applications or build new Web interfaces to existing applications. For the System/i developer, there is lots of good news. The approach is based on the same notion of holistic application design and user interface / logic separation that System i developers have been using since the box you and I love was once called the System/38 Delphi/400 is the toolset that best addresses the notion of the application factory of rapid application development. It is the natural next step in a progression of tools from those with sophisticated names such as "Intelligent Development Environment," "Componentization," and "Visualization." Yes, It is all of those and more. It does its thing by asking the developer to think about the whole application, not just one Web page at a time. Isn't that how System i developers already think? Time to Look to a Leader After many years of hope, with V6R1 of i5/OS and its supporting cast of programs, IBM has yet to provide the long-hinted, if not often promised natural Web interface. After 18 years, for System i developers, name changes come more quickly. Isn't it time to stop waiting? Of course this means that neither RPG developers nor COBOL developers will be replacing their green screen oriented display files with an IBM packaged natural object with HTML or XML GUI. This will not be happening because IBM does not want it to happen.

  • Visual Studio Tools for Office Sample Chapter
  • Now that we have considered the basic pattern of the Office object models, let us consider how developers pattern and build their Office solutions. There are three patterns that most solutions built using Office follow. • Office automation executable • Office add-in • Code behind an Office document An automation executable is a program separate from Office that controls and automates an Office application. An automation executable can be created with development tools such as Visual Studio .NET 2005. A typical example is a stand-alone console application or Windows Forms application that starts up an Office application and then automates it to perform some task. To start a solution built this way, the user of the solution starts the automation executable that will in turn start up the Office application. Unlike the other two patterns, the automation code does not run in the Office process but runs in its own process and talks cross process to the Office process being automated. An add-in is a class in an assembly (DLL) that Office loads and creates when needed. An add-in runs in process with the Office application rather than requiring that a separate process from the Office application is running. To start a solution built this way, the user of the solution starts the Office application associated with the add-in.
