MaUsE DoubleClick March 2006What you are looking at is the March 2007 edition of the MaUsE DoubleClick monthly newsletter from the Macin- tosh Users East, (MaUsE), a motley collection of mostly harmless cranks who reside in Southern Ontario with their motley collection of old and new Macintosh computers. Unlike previous issues, the March 2007 DoubleClick is published using Quark XPress 7. This issue was created with help from an OWC Mercury Extreme 1.4 GHz G4 Power Macintosh AGP Graphics tower, (with our thanks to OWC), and a 1 GHz G4 iBook. A Kodak DX7590 is used for all pictures. Everything not specifically attributed to someone else can be blamed on me. Back issues can be downloaded from the website.
Submissions from MaUsE Club members are almost always welcome. Send articles to < mause.doubleclick@gmail.com >, especially if there are files or pictures attached. I have never refused a submission yet. There is always room for an- other piece on ANY Mac-related topic and I’ll make room if there isn’t. I would like your submissions. But I won’t beg. This book will guide you through the setup procedure, tell you how to expand your computer, and provide many tips on using your new system. Your computer is powered by the new microprocessor (or chip ). This microprocessor was designed by Apple Computer, Inc., Motorola, Inc., and IBM Corporation.
The microprocessor uses Reduced Instruction Set Computing (RISC) technology to deliver very high performance at the lowest possible cost. The RISC microprocessor represents the state of the art in microprocessor design. Your new computer will run almost all your existing Mac OS software, but for best performance and greatest speed, look for the new software programs designed especially for computers with microprocessors. You'll find these programs at any software store that carries Mac OS products. The MicroTrack 24/96 can be connected to a computer via the USB connection to transfer audio files. The USB port is also used to recharge the internal battery of the MicroTrack 24/96. Typically, a computer’s USB port will supply enough power to recharge the MicroTrack 24/96’s battery, though a USB power supply is also provided for charging without a computer.
The MicroTrack 24/96 has an 1/8” microphone port which supplies 5V for electret microphones like the included stereo “T” microphone. Two 1/4” TRS inputs accommodate mic or line level inputs, and can supply phantom power for condenser microphones. A coaxial SPDIF input is available for recording from a digital source; the MicroTrack 24/96 automatically sets the sample rate to match the incoming stream. An 1/8” headphone port and RCA line outs can be used for monitoring recordings and playback. While the MicroTrack 24/96 is simple to use, we still suggest that you read through this entire manual to familiarize yourself with all the functions contained within this portable unit.

The subject seems to be mature enough to be used widely in learning and teaching practice. But after the initial hype less than ten years ago, things have not gone as smoothly as expected. Why? Predictions were promising: LO repositories will create a market for learning content, this will reduce costs for instructional design, shorten the development time for e-learning courses, different instructors will be able to use the same materials.
But if we look around carefully, then despite a number of excellent examples (Chapman, 2007), LOs have not gained significant place in teaching and learning practice in most educational organizations. The number of available repositories and the number of LOs in them is growing, but not so fast as expected. Reuse and sharing of LOs lack widespread character. For example, in US (Matkin, 2002), with its huge higher education market, corporations and foundations started to finance e-learning content already more than ten years ago, hoping to earn their investment back quickly. But the higher education community is not a very typical community of "consumers", and investors claimed they miscalculated the demand. Cisco, one of the successful implementers of LOs, claims: "Very few organizations have actually developed a methodology to design, develop and implement Reusable Information Objects" (Cisco Systems Inc., 1999). In the rather developed Estonian e-learning community only 3% of teachers participating in the national e-learning conference in late 2007 claimed having used/created LOs. The water-jet is only capable of 2D cutting operations, and has extremely limited control of the depth of the cut so work should be designed with 2D lines and with the intention that the lines will be cut completely through the material – not etched. Depending on the hardness of the material it is possible to etch or score a cut instead of cutting all the way through, but this should only be done with ductile materials as it will cause shattering or breaking in more brittle materials.
2D File Creation
1) The FlowPATH software will only accept 2D geometry, and it works best with lines and arcs, splines may cause some problems. The lines can be made in any 2D application capable of exporting DXF files; possible applications are Maya, 3dMax, Rhino, AutoCAD, Illustrator and VectorWorks. If your model is made of surfaces or polygons it is necessary to duplicate the edges of the objects to make 2D lines, you cannot use the surface geometry directly for water-jet cutting. Objects and parts should be made at full-scale, the limits of the bed size are 40” x 20”. Pieces should also be on the XY plane with the Z axis up.
2) Once you have suitable geometry created in a 3D application you must export it as DXF. When exporting you should save as Release 12 (R12) format, this formatZyXEL Prestige 660HW Series ADSL Router with Wireless + FirewallThe P-660HW is an ADSL Internet gateway with IEEE 802.11g wireless capability and a 4-port built-in switch. You may need your Internet access information. The P-660HW is referred to as “the Prestige” in this guide. See your User’s Guide for background information on all features.
This guide is divided into the following sections.
1 Hardware Connections
2 Configuration for Internet Access
3 Wireless Configuration
4 NAT
5 Firewall
6 Troubleshooting
1 DSL: Connect the Prestige to a telephone jack using a telephone wire.
2 LAN: Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to a LAN 10/100M port for initial configuration and/or Internet access.
3 POWER: Use the included power adaptor to connect the POWER socket to an appropriate power source (see the User’s Guide for power adaptors specifications by region).
After you’ve made the connections, push in the power button to turn on the Prestige. Look at the front panel LEDs. The PWR/SYS LED blinks while performing system testing. The PWR/SYS and/or WLAN LEDs then turn steady on if the testing is successful. The LAN LED turns on if the LAN port is properly connected.

The WSIG (version 0.4) is a JADE add-on that provides support for bidirectional invocation of Web services from JADE agents, and JADE agent services from Web service clients. This is the first public release of this add-on and as such it should be treated as a beta that is subject to change at any time.
The main body of this guide focuses on the process of starting and configuring the WSIG within a running JADE platform. Some usage examples are also provided. Please refer to the javadoc for a complete description of the APIs that allow programmatic access to the security features.
All bugs, issues and feature requests should be made to the main JADE bug reporting system, or sent to the standard JADE mailing lists. Version 0.4 of the WSIG add-on was developed by the JADE Board and is only guaranteed to work with JADE release 3.3 or later.
