Maya 104: DynamicsDuring this tutorial we’ll explore a number of features of Maya’s dynamics toolset.
In part I - the ‘membrane pore tutorial’ - we’ll create a scene with a turbulent membrane that also has a ‘pore’ dynamically floating in it. Next we’ll create a swarm of molecules that collide with the membrane (and can otherwise only traverse it via the pore opening). We’ll gain finer control over the behavior of individual molecules in the swarm through the use of expressions. Finally, we’ll add goals to the entire swarm and control the degree to which these goals affect the swarm’s movement.
In part II – the ‘blastocyst tutorial’ - we’ll look at how a piece of geometry can serve as a goal for particles. Specifically, we’ll create a blastocyst-stage embryo made up of blobby particles attracted to a sphere. We’ll control the behavior of these particles relative to the surface of the sphere. For the finale, we’ll squeeze the blastocyst out of the zona pellucida surrounding it by using a lattice deformer applied to the sphere.

1. Remove the oil filter using the SST.
2. Use a clean rag to wipe off the mounting surface on the oil filter body.
3. Apply clean engine oil to the O-ring of the oil filter.
4. Using the SST, tighten the filter according to the installation direction on the side of it or packing box.
5. Start the engine and inspect for oil leakage.
6. Inspect the oil level.
Add oil if necessary. (See 01-11-2 ENGINE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION.)

Hot engines and engine oil are hot, they can cause burns. Turn off the engine and wait until it and engine oil have cooled.
1. Remove the oil pressure switch.
2. Screw the SST into the oil pressure switch installation hole.
3. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
4. Run the engine at the specified speed, and note the gauge readings.

However, as Web 2.0 has made its debut and user participation-type culture has expanded, the new concept of “collective intelligence” has been attracting attention. Opinions are currently being advanced with regard to the concept and process of KM and the system architecture that can be used to implement it. This paper also deals with the issue of knowledge provision, a traditional issue of KM, and introduces a KM model in the context of the Web 2.0 age that can expand collective intelligence in a positive spiral by closely linking it to knowledge extraction from various communication tools and job systems.
In his paper “What is Web 2.0” 1), which was announced in September 2005 and is currently attracting wide attention, Tim O’Reilly proposed the concept of Web 2.0. This concept is also exerting an important impact on the field of knowledge management (KM). The concept of KM became popular in early 1990’s, and many experts in business management made a large number of proposals in the domain of corporate education and knowledge creation and many managers and employees who were in sympathy with the concept conducted attempts in the field. Thus providing significant examples and paradigms for teaching good and correct style is of prime importance.
Learning concurrency paradigms is necessary but it is not sufficient. The choice of the run-time semantics must be known since it may introduce subtle design and programming errors. It is the aim of this paper to exemplify the importance of process queuing and awaking policies (whether processes are named threads or tasks) resulting from possible choices of the monitor concept implementation.
The languages Java, C# and Ada implement the monitor concept [Hoare 1974]. Several possible monitor concurrency semantics have been used in the past and a classification is presented in [Buhr1995]. Every implementation provides mutual exclusion during the execution of a distinguished sequence (synchronized method in Java, lock in C#, protected object subprograms in Ada) using a lock for every object. The semantics differ in the chosen policies for blocking, signalling and awaking processes.
The Java policy uses explicit self-blocking and signalling instructions. It provides “wait()”,“notify()” and “notifyAll()” clauses with a unique waiting queue per encapsulated object (termed “synchronized”). A self-blocking thread joins the waiting queue and releases the object mutual exclusion lock.
