  • An Inside Look at the Evolution of DotNetNuke pdf
  • As much as I would like people to believe that DotNetNuke was intentionally created as a premier open source project for the Microsoft platform, it is unfortunately not the case. As is true with many open source projects, the software was created with commercial intentions in mind, and only when it was discovered that its true purpose would not be realized was it reconsidered as an open source project. In 2001–2002 I was working for a medium-sized software consulting company that was providing outsourced software development services to a variety of large U.S. clients specializing primarily in e-Learning initiatives. The internal push was to achieve CMM 3.0 on a fairly aggressive schedule so that we could compete with the emerging outsourcing powerhouses from India and China. As a result there was an incredible amount of focus on process and procedure and somewhat less focus on the technical aspects of software engineering. Because the majority of the client base was interested in the J2EE platform, the company had primarily hired resources with Java skills — leaving myself with my legacy Microsoft background to assume more of an internal development and project management role. The process improvement exercise consumed a lot of time and energy for the company; attempting to better define roles and responsibilities and ensuring proper documentation throughout the project life cycle. Delving into CMM and the PMBOK were great educational benefits for me — skills that would prove to be invaluable in future endeavors. Ultimately the large U.S. clients decided
  • Web 2.0 Needs to Include the User Experience Perspective
  • Web 2.0 technologies are enabling people to interact in ways that haven’t been popular since the early days of the Internet. Prior to the development of Web 2.0, the Internet had become more corporate and less collaborative, straying away from its originally conceived purpose of sharing academic information among peers. Users were merely information consumers being sold ideas and products online. But the recent evolution of Web 2.0 tools – such as blogs and wikis – is changing the role of users again, away from simply information consumers to become contributors as well. Many commercial website owners interested in moving from publishing to participation feel wary of implementing Web 2.0 tools. They are not certain which tools to implement and how to ensure their own or their users’ success once the tools are implemented. The vast majority of the recommendations available to these website owners and stakeholders comes from the business strategy perspective. These recommendations primarily consist of Web 2.0 monetization advice and best practices written by independent business strategy and technology bloggers, as well as the O'Reilly Media group. So while website owners’ success is being addressed thoroughly, the end users’ success and satisfaction with Web 2.0 tools is not being concentrated on to nearly the same extent. This lack of attention to the end user’s experience is especially unfortunate because Web 2.0 technologies create a richer functional user space, resulting in more opportunities for users to make mistakes. Good usability of Web 2.0 tools is important so that users will

  • Microsoft: Silverlight More than a Flash
  • Microsoft gives a name to its Flash-killer technology. The technology formerly known as WPF/E is now known as Silverlight. Microsoft has given a go-to-market name for its cross-platform, cross-browser plug-in for delivering the next generation of user experiences and rich Internet applications for the Web. The technology formerly known as WPF/E is now known as Silverlight. Microsoft announced Silverlight at the National Association of Broadcasters conference in Las Vegas on April 16. The NAB announcement highlights Silverlight uses for media users. The software company will announce further details about the technology at its own Mix07 conference, which starts at the end of April and runs through May 2 in Las Vegas. Forest Key, a director of product management in the Microsoft Server and Tools Division, said Silverlight integrates with existing Web technologies and assets to provide higher quality experiences with lower costs for media delivery. In a briefing with eWEEK, Key demonstrated how Silverlight offers consistent experiences to both Mac and Windows users on a variety of browsers, including Internet Explorer, FireFox and Safari. As for which platform Silverlight will support next, Key said, "Linux is an open question. We're looking at the desktops and browsers by volume. We want to put muscle behind supporting the bulk of the market." And Linux support is still under discussion, he said. Silverlight uses WMV (Windows Media Video), Microsoft's implementation of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers VC-1 video standard, ensuring compatibility with the millions of hours of content already available on the Web. • Fiat Bravo/a & Marea - Replacing your Windscreen Washer Jets to the ‘Mist’ Type Suitable
  • This guide will show you how to fit ‘Citroën/Peugeot Windscreen Washer Mist Jets’ into your Fiat Bravo. Please read this guide through at least once before fitting. Your first step is to purchase the ‘Citroën/Peugeot Mist Washer Jets’ from the dealership. Part number 6438.V8. They come as a pair for approximately £6. Step 2. Fiat Windscreen Washer Jet Removal Open the bonnet and remove the following plastic studs to gain access to the underside of the washer jets. I have circled the main ones; you can remove more if required. Step 3. Remove existing Windscreen Washer Jets Carefully remove the washer pipe tubing from the washer jet nozzle. Then with pliers press both sides of the washer jet and push the washer jet out of the bonnet. Repeat for the next side. Step 4. Create a Support to hold the new Washer Jet in place Due to the size of the old washer jet the new Citroën washer jet will not fit perfectly into the hole in the Bravo/a and Marea’s bonnet without a support. To create the support I used an empty plastic bottle, I cut out two squares approx 4cm x 5cm from the plastic bottle and carefully with a craft knife I cut a cross in the middle. Going left to right I cut a small slit approx 3mm. Get pdf Fiat Bravo/a & Marea - Replacing your Windscreen Washer Jets to the ‘Mist’ Type Suitable
  • Service Express QuickStart Guide
  • What is Service Express? Service Express is American Honda’s Web-based system for delivering electronic service publications to the aftermarket. In Service Express, technicians have access to the same service information available to Honda and Acura dealers: Service Manuals, Service Bulletins, ServiceNews, Wiring Diagrams, Body Repair Manuals, Accessory Installation Instructions, Owners Manuals, and the Parts Catalogs in one convenient place. When you use Service Express, you get the latest parts and service information available, and you can search across many types of publications simultaneously. How does it work? You search in Service Express by selecting the Model and Year of the vehicle you’re working on, then choose a subject or enter a keyword. Service Express will retrieve all service information related to the subject or keyword to help you repair the vehicle. NOTE: We continually update Service Express, so a printed copy of the Service Express QuickStart may not exactly match what you see on your computer screen. This isn’t usually a problem, because the basic Service Express searching and navigation procedures do not change. Download PDF
  • How to Create a Flash Form with PHP
  • The Flash form consists of 2 basic parts. One part is the group of text fields that make up the form. These are actually contained within a movieclip aptly named "form." Secondly, you have the send button. This will be the button that activates the code that sends the form information to the PHP file. At that point, Flash's job is done. It's then up to the PHP script to make sure the email gets sent. 1. Start off by making the appropriate form fields. Make sure these are input fields and not static or dynamic text fields Include as many as you want. Each will be sent to the PHP file where they can then be sorted. This example uses 3. 2. Assign each text field a var value. This is NOT an instance name. The var field allows you to associate a variable with the given text field Because loadVariables is being used to transmit the information, this is needed to make the value of these text fields easily recognized as variables to that command. This example uses name, email, and body for field variable names. 3. Once you have created and named each field, select them all and create a new movieclip out of them. This will be the form movieclip. Give it the instance name form when you're done. 4. Next, create a button. This will serve as the send button. This will exist not within the form, but in the same place as the form. It's on this button
