In this paper we describe a Python- and Tkinter-based visual-programming environment called ViPEr. This tool enables non-programmers to build computational and visualization networks interactively. Computational nodes can be placed onto a canvas and their input and output ports can be connected using the mouse. The connections between the nodes define a directed graph that will be used to propagate data and trigger the execution of nodes that have new input data. ViPEr is, in appearance, similar to programs such as AVS [Upson et al. 89] from Advanced Visual Simulations Inc, or OpenDX [DX 93] from IBM, but presents some fundamental differences which will be pointed out throughout this paper. Several examples of applications will be used to illustrate ViPEr’s design and current range of capabilities.

This section will introduce the Ondex Visualisation ToolKit user interface. A network consists of genes/proteins/metabolites as concepts and interactions represented as links i.e. relations between concepts. Firstly, we will explain how to install and run the OVTK. Secondly, we will look at the basic user interface of OVTK. Then we will load up a network to show all menu features of OVTK and some of the core functionality such as layout algorithms, annotators and filters.

They also tend to undergo several rounds of revision, with new content often being added after peer review and style and format reworked for target journals. Currently, this tends to involve emailing versions of the document between authors, or storing versions on shared drives. However, a new breed of online applications that mimic the functions of desktop applications could change the process of producing a scientific paper.

Everybody who wants to install a web server database but does not know which software is necessary and how it is installed should benefit from reading this text. This text provides all information necessary to get a SQL database for a web server going; it does not go into any detail of CGI programming, nor does it explain the SQL database language. Excellent books are available on both topics, and it is the intention of this text to provide a working platform based on which a user can then study CGI programming and SQL. For getting a small scale SQL system running (not the notorious example of a major airline booking system, or space mission management database) it will be sufficient to have the software described in this text and the documentation accompanying it. The user manual of msql (a database introduced in this text) provides sufficient information on SQL for building your own database.

You can use the CellPipe 20A to create a dedicated, physical connection to Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) equipment at the telephone company. You first attach your computer or Ethernet hub to the CellPipe 20A. Then, you connect the unit to a standard telephone line. The other end of the line connects to DSL equipment at the telephone company. Your DSL circuit is dedicated to your CellPipe unit.

The TriKinetics Drosophila Activity Monitoring System consists of one or more Activity Monitors, a Power Supply Interface Unit and Power Supply, and a host Macintosh or Windows PC for data collection. Each monitor uses an onboard microprocessor to independently detect and count activity events, and at periodic intervals to upload the activity totals to the host computer.

The monitors are connected to the Power Supply Interface Unit by a network of conventional 4-wire telephone cables which supply operating power and lines for data transmission. Monitors may be plugged and unplugged from the network at will without disturbing the activity of other monitors.
