First generation wireless systems, which primarily provide analog voice service, are widely in use worldwide. Second generation systems support digital voice/data traffic; some of these systems are already deployed or undergoing deployment. Third generation wireless networks will ultimately carry multimedia traffic that are characterized by combination of different informaion streams of diverse nature (e.g., voice, video, image, data). Some of the salient features of multimedia applications are high speed and changing bit rates (periodic and bursty arrivals), several virtual connections over the same access, synchronization of different information streams, and various service/deliveIy requirements (QoS).

Test-driven development is something that every developer can appreciate once they?ve tried it, and something that I?ve worked hard to enable for Silverlight with the release of the controls source. Scott Guthrie previously posted about the Silverlight 2 Beta 1 release, with a First Look at Silverlight 2 post followed by the First Look at Using Expression Blend with Silverlight 2. If we could take the same application from the Blend post & create a set of unit tests for the components in the app, it would pay dividends once we start adding new features or working with other developers on the project.

Many IT organizations view the phrase Web 2.0 as either just marketing hype that is devoid of any meaning or they associate it exclusively with social networking sites such as MySpace. That’s understandable as Web 2.0 is not the same as a new protocol that has an associated RFC that spells out definitively what is and what is not included as part of the protocol. As a result, many concepts get lumped under the banner of Web 2.0.
