Dwarf's Guide to Debian GNU/LinuxThe major difference between the Debian distribution and other Linux distributions that are currently available is its open development model. This is not, however, the only difference between Debian and the other distributions.
The second, equally important difference, is Debian’s strict adherence to the “Free Software” ideal. It is quite impressive, when you think about it, that this distribution is composed of freely redistributable software, complete with source code. Now, most other distributions also supply source code and these same programs, but they will also put packages into their distributions that can not be redistributed under certain conditions, without any concern for the legal problems that they deliver to their customer. Users of the Debian distribution can be assured that what they find in that distribution will have no constraints on the free distribution and modification of that software, leaving them free to build “value added” systems from this Distribution without fear that they will find themselves in court for misuse of someone else’s intellectual property.
Debian provides areas within the archives for packages that do not meet these rigid standards, but are desired by the Debian community. Because of its free software status, the Debian packaging system can be used to package software that does not meet its own standards for free distribution.
Packages that are not freely distributable are found in the non-free section of the distribution. An additional category, called contrib is for those packages that would otherwise be free, except that they depend on some other package that isHow to Secure and Accelerate Your Oracle ApplicationsGlobalization and ecommerce have fundamentally reshaped the competitive landscape, and forced companies to operate more efficiently. Mobile technology and broadband networks have enabled employees to work anywhere, and raised their expectations for easy access to centralized applications and corporate databases.
Companies have never been as dependent on software applications to perform their day-to-day operations and achieve their corporate objectives. Yet, the growing use of today‘s —internal“ software applications across wide area networks (WANs), or external applications across the Internet, is making it increasingly difficult to obtain optimal and secure performance from these essential applications.
Gaining greater performance from enterprise applications, such as those from Oracle, has become increasingly critical because of escalating pressures on companies today. Yet efforts to improve application performance, especially to remote users, are complicated by network limitations; bandwidth, and especially network latency.
Combined, these trends are generating interest and adoption of a widening array of ”on-demand‘ applications to satisfy companies‘ rapidly changing business requirements. Hosted on the Internet, business applications are easier to own, but that makes the Internet the backbone of your business data. Conversely, employees can be remote users to internal applications, using the Internet as their WAN with the help of VPN technologies. As a result, the line of demarcation between a company‘s WAN and the Internet is blurring. This can make enterprises and employees more vulnerable to a proliferation of security threats that can significantly affect their business operations. It also means users have to go across higher latency networks outside of your control, riskingBenQ FP241VW User Guide ManualGetting to know your monitor Front view (1) Front view (2) Left-side view Back view (1) Back view(2): locations of plugs & sockets How to assemble your monitor hardware Adjusting the monitor angle Detaching the top-mount monitor shelf Using the monitor wall mounting kit Getting the most from your BenQ monitor How to install the monitor on a new computer How to upgrade the monitor on an existing computer How to install on Windows Vista systems How to install on Windows XP system How to adjust the screen resolution How to adjust the screen refresh rate Picture optimization How to adjust your monitor The control panel On Screen Display (OSD) menu structure Hot key mode Main menu mode

Behind most of these initiatives lies a simple yet very promising idea for the corporate world. Without installing “in house” software (that is under the cloud computing format), companies can capitalize on these free on-line services for a series of activities requiring coordination or collaboration. These include organizing meetings, sharing contacts and documents, and creating communities. Furthermore, integration with social networks allows companies to get to know their clients and their preferences better in order to choose the ideal candidates. In this sense, it seems logical to assume that Web 2.0 will undergo a strong new surge due to its commitment to mobility, and specific applications are already coming out on the market.
In general, Spanish companies have been slow to jump onto the bandwagon. There are a few exceptions, though. One of the most noteworthy of these is Actibva, the Web 2.0 platform launched by BBVA that is designed to inform users about the evolution of financial markets and foment relationships among parties interested in savings and economic topics from the viewpoint of markets as well as the personal finances. BBVA’s team of specialized journalists selects news according to completely independent criteria and offers its own views in the Actibva blog. As such, users can vote on news items and introduce their own commentaries.
Beyond this example, there are a few interesting Web 2.0 initiatives gathering force among younger Spanish companies. One of
