  • Web 2.0 and the Development of Information Services
  • Web service has evolved continuously to the point where it is now shifting from a provider-oriented service to a user-oriented one. Internet users now evaluate the trustworthiness of information posted on the Internet, and share their knowledge more widely on that information. This trend is also applicable to education-related information services. Education information services will be able to provide new opportunities for the education sector once education providers accept this new trend in the web world, thus creating new and vital services. Web 2.0 is certainly facilitating this kind of change in the education service sector. Concept and characteristics of Web 2.0 Web 2.0 is about openness, sharing and participation. An individual can post his or her own content on the web, and allow other people to share it. People participate in enhancing the value and quality of the content. Tim O’Reilly, CEO of the U.S. company O’Reilly Media, made seven definitions of Web 2.0, by gathering the common features of the companies that survived after the burst of the dot.com bubble. These are : The Web as a Platform, Harnessing Collective Intelligence, Data is the Next Intel Inside, End of the Software Release Cycle, Lightweight Programming Models, Software Above the Level of a Single Device, and Rich User Experiences. The application of Web 2.0 can be seen in the following. Download pdf Web 2.0 and the Development of Information Services

  • From DOS/Windows to Linux HOWTO Tutorial
  • Let’s start politically correct. Throughout this document I say “Linux”, but I mean “GNU/Linux”. Please go to http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux?and?gnu.html to see why. You want to switch from the DOS/Windows world to Linux? Good idea: Linux is technically superior to DOS, Windows 9x and even Windows NT. But beware: it might not be useful for you. These are the main differences between DOS/Windows and Linux: • Windows runs Microsoft Office and lots of games; is perceived to be easy to install and configure; is notoriously unstable; performs poorly; crashes are frequent. • Linux runs StarOffice, scores of technical software and fewer games; can be tricky to install and configure; is rock solid; performs impeccably; crashes are extremely rare. It’s up to you to decide what you need. Furthermore, Linux gives you power, but it takes some time to learn how to harness it. Thus, if mostly need commercial sw, or if you don’t feel like learning new commands and concepts, you had better look elsewhere. Be aware that many newcomers give up because of initial difficulties. • COVISE Tutorial
  • This document is a short introduction to working with COVISE. It is primarily a tutorial for COVISE novices. It doesn’t cover advanced topics such as the development of new application modules or the installation and configuration process. We assume that you have a running COVISE on your machine. For installation guide read the files README and INSTALL.TXT which come with your COVISEdistribution. For developing new application modules read the COVISE Programming Guide. COVISE is a Collaborative Visualization and Simulation Environment developed at the Computing Center of the University of Stuttgart. It is an extendable distributed software environment to integrate supercomputer based simulations, postprocessing, and visualization functionality with cooperative working in a seamless manner. The tutorial contains the five chapters: In Chapter 1 Starting COVISE you learn how to initiate a single user session and load a saved session. The functionality of some basic modules (RWCovise, DomainSurface, CuttingSurface) is explained. Chapter 2 Using the Inventor Renderer gives a short introduction to the typical work with the Renderer. Chapter 3 Working with Modules covers module ports and module parameters. Chapter 4 Analysis of 3D Data describes the basic steps in analyzing complex 3D data with the general COVISE modules. (This chapter has been reworked to make the user familiar with the ’Complex Modules’ for building maps quicker and easier.) Chapter 5 Advanced Topics covers distributed computing and multi user sessions. Download pdf COVISE Tutorial

  • Skype Guide for Network Administrators Manual
  • The Skype software and services provide individuals with a new, secure and innovative way to communicate with other people using the Internet as the medium of transport for messages, whether they are voice calls, text messages or other forms of communication. Skype is the world decentralized telephony network, but it provides far more services than just voice calling that carried over the public Internet. By using a compact client program, which is available in versions for several popular computer platforms,a Skype user is able to send or receive text messages, hold voice calls and exchange data files with other persons. Communications with other online Skype users are provided free of charge, while certain premium services, such as the placing of voice calls to standard telephone numbers, are available for a modest fee. Skype communications rely largely on peer-to-peer communications techniques in order to improve the quality of voice calls and to reduce the latency of data transfers between users. The term peer-to-peer, frequently written as P2P, is a class of software applications that rely on resources located at the network edge, such as the large number of individual personal computers that are always connected to the Internet, rather than relying on large and costly centralized computer servers. It is this aspect of Skype networking that makes it incredibly robust and tolerant of network failures:Skype has no single critical node upon which the service relies for its operation. Description of Skype services The utility of Skype services are found in the voice calling.. Download Skype Guide for Network Administrators Manual

  • AutoCAD® 2000i Tutorial
  • Constructive Solid Geometry Design includes all activities involved from the original concept to the finished product. Design is the process by which products are created and modified. For many years designers sought ways to describe and analyze three-dimensional designs without building physical models. Although orthographic projections can be used to provide much of the information, they still require designers to translate between the three-dimensional object and flat two-dimensional views. With the advancements in computer technology, the creation of three-dimensional models on computers offers a wide range of benefits. Computer models are easier to interpret and can be altered easily. Computer models can be analyzed using finite element analysis software, and simulation of real-life loads can be applied to the computer models and the results graphically displayed.
