  • Visual Studio Tools for Office Sample Chapter
  • Now that we have considered the basic pattern of the Office object models, let us consider how developers pattern and build their Office solutions. There are three patterns that most solutions built using Office follow. • Office automation executable • Office add-in • Code behind an Office document An automation executable is a program separate from Office that controls and automates an Office application. An automation executable can be created with development tools such as Visual Studio .NET 2005. A typical example is a stand-alone console application or Windows Forms application that starts up an Office application and then automates it to perform some task. To start a solution built this way, the user of the solution starts the automation executable that will in turn start up the Office application. Unlike the other two patterns, the automation code does not run in the Office process but runs in its own process and talks cross process to the Office process being automated. An add-in is a class in an assembly (DLL) that Office loads and creates when needed. An add-in runs in process with the Office application rather than requiring that a separate process from the Office application is running. To start a solution built this way, the user of the solution starts the Office application associated with the add-in. • HOW TO DEVELOP A MOBILE 2.0 APPLICATION
  • As we all know, online (or virtual) communities are groups of people that primarily or initially interact with each other over the Internet. People who are active in the same social spaces on a regular basis will probably start to recognize other visitors after a while [Wolf, 2006]. With some of them, they will interact by sharing or exchanging information or thoughts. Communication plays an important role in everybody’s life, professionally as well as personally. Lately, the demand for efficient communication ‘tools’ has steadily increased. Most newly developed technologies have resulted from this trend. The main drivers involved are users’ mobility and their continuous need for ubiquitous communication: mobile applications make it possible to communicate whenever and wherever people want [Jaokar & Fish, 2006; Lacohée, Wakeford & Pearson, 2003]. The A4MC³ project (Architecture for Mobile Community Content Creation), involves the development of a mobile application used within a city context to allow users, i.e. (mainly) city inhabitants, to communicate and share information with one another. This application aims to connect users and to serve a variety of heterogeneous goals, ranging from maintaining social contacts to sharing content, from publishing in an online newsletter (like a city blog or forum) to advertising a business in a user-tailored way. In the context of this project, an empirical study was conducted on the use of mobile technologies by people in a city context and on their impact on the formation of the community by the exchange of content in the form of photos and

  • C# Series: Basic Calculator
  • This section will introduce you to the Complete Programs tutorial series, the tutorial, creating the project, and adding controls. This project is meant for beginners, so the program will not be as complicated as the others. The program will be similar to the basic calculator in windows. The C# Complete Program tutorials, similar to the XNA Complete Games, cover programs from start to finish. We start off with a very simple program, and get more advanced as we go. This program is a very simple calculator. We will cover a very abstract way to handle button presses and operations. It is time to get started! Open Visual Studio 2008 (or the express editions) and create a new C# Windows Forms Application called “BasicCalculatorTutorial”. The first thing you need to do is change the dimensions of the window to something a bit wider. Change the Size property of the form to a new dimension. I used the following: 350, 277. Change the Text property of the form to identify the program, “BasicCalculator”. You can rename Form1.cs if you wish; I will not do that in the tutorial. This will be our base window, and we will add new controls in part 3. Download pdf C# Series: Basic Calculator
