  • TestDriven.NET - Quickstart
  • This section provides a 'Quickstart' guide to using TestDriven.NET any version of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Test Driven Development is the practice of writing unit tests for your code before you actually write that code. By writing a test and then writing the code to make that test pass you have a much better idea of what the goal and purpose of your code is. Test Driven Development also encourage complete code coverage, which not only increases the quality of your code, but also allows you to refactor the internals of a method or class and quickly and easily test the outside interface of the object. TestDriven.NET is a unit testing add-in for Visual Studio. It was developed for a number of years under the name NUnitAddIn. It supports multiple unit testing frameworks including NUnit, MbUnit, csUnit and MS Team System and is compatible with all versions of Visual Studio .NET. It is available in free and (in the future)professional versions. Installing TestDriven.NET can be installed using an administrator or limited user account. By default it will install for just the current user. Because limited users don't have write access to the 'Program Files' folder, a limited user installation will install files in user's 'Application DataTestDriven.NET' folder. An administrator installation will install files in the 'Program FilesTestDriven.NET' folder. These defaults can be changed by selecting 'Custom' on the 'Choose Setup Type' page. TestDriven.NET is packaged with functional versions of the NUnit and MbUnit unit testing frameworks. It also includes an adaptor for executing

  • Using Web Analytics with Microsoft Silverlight
  • Silverlight is Microsoft’s cross-browser, cross-platform browser plug-in that allows the creation of interactive web applications that employ high quality streaming media, vector graphics, images, and animation. Deployed as a plug-in for the major browsers on the Windows, Mac and Linux (supported by Novell) operating systems, web developers can craft interactive applications that have an identical user experience on the vast majority of web browsers deployed today. Silverlight addresses a disconnect that exists today in web development workflow where the design intent of graphics designers and interaction designers cannot be faithfully communicated to and crafted by the web developers. In Silverlight, this intent is created in design tools like Expression Design and Expression Blend and passed off to web developers in XML-based XAML data files. The fidelity of the designers’ ideas is kept as there is a clear separation between the design in XAML and the code in JavaScript. Silverlight is a browser plug-in that renders XAML and exposes a JavaScript programming model in 1.0, extending this with a .NET programming model and runtime in Silverlight 2. Since the Silverlight 2 runtime has full access to the HTML Document Object Model (DOM) and cross-domain data access abilities, it is possible for future Silverlight applications to implement analytics entirely in managed code or in JavaScript code that is invoked from the managed code. This architecture enables using AJAX-style programming patterns for building responsive, interactive, applications. An event model within the Silverlight control allows for web developers to easily add JavaScript-based event handling for mouse,
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Data and Backup Compression
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 introduces two new compression features (available in Enterprise and Developer editions) that are of interest to users with large databases. Data compression applies to individual tables and indexes within a database and comes in two options: ROW and PAGE. Backup compression is a new option when backing up a database to external storage. Both compression techniques can be used to reduce the amount of online storage required for databases and their backups. Data Compression Data compression can be configured for an entire heap (table with no clustered index), clustered index, non-clustered index, or indexed view. For partitioned tables and indexes, the compression option can be configured separately (and differently) for each partition. The data compression option can be specified during CREATE TABLE or CREATE INDEX by using the new table_option DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE or ROW or PAGE. The data compression option can also be changed later through ALTER TABLE or ALTER INDEX with a (new for TABLE) REBUILD clause. Data compression affects the physical storage of columns within a row and rows within a page on disk and in memory. It does not change the logical attributes of the data or the way it is presented by the database, so there are no changes visible to the application. Data compression requires more processing for select, insert, and update than for uncompressed data. Furthermore, compression is generally more expensive than decompression. For these reasons, in most cases, Microsoft recommends that compression not be used on tables and indexes if the size of

  • Adobe Photoshop CS Black and White Conversion
  • Seeing in black and white Black and white conversions are radical transformations of images. They're about reestablishing the tonal foundations of an image. That's quite different than dodging and burning, or lightening and darkening locally, which is a matter of accentuating existing tonal relationships. Conversion methods There are almost a dozen ways to convert an image from color to black and white; and you can probably find at least one expert to support each way as the best conversion method. The bottom line is that most conversion methods work reasonably well. The method that works best for you depends on your particular workflow and the tools that you're comfortable with. The following method isn't necessarily the best and it isn't the fastest—it generates a larger file—but it offers you the most control and flexibility. Creating layers from channels offers you more control than any other conversion method. It also offers you the flexibility of being able to change any aspect of the conversion at any time in the future. Here's how you do it: copy the individual channels of a color image, and then paste them into the same document as the original color image.Next, rename the layers accordingly. Then, reduce the opacity of the layers to achieve the result that you want. If you want a neutral image and don't want the color of the Background layer to show through, keep the opacity of the layer directly above the color Background layer at 100%. Since you will be going back and forth between the Channels
  • WPF and Silverlight Building Rich Interactive Applications with XAML
  • Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) WPF provides a unified framework for building applications with rich user interfaces and interactivity. It is built on top of the .Net Framework and makes use of the managed and unmanaged code. WPF programming model allows the developers to write code once and deploy it as a standalone installed application or in a browser. Microsoft Silverlight Microsoft Silverlight is a cross-browser, cross-platform, and cross-device plug-in for delivering the next generation of .NET based media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web. Silverlight offers a flexible programming model that supports AJAX, VB, and C # and integrates with existing Web applications. Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) XAML is a markup language for declarative application programming. It is a tools-supported, XML-based user interface design language that maps XML markup tags to objects in the .NET Framework, enabling designers and developers to collaborate on delivering superior user experiences. Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Silverlight application user interfaces are created in XAML. Development Environments Visual Studio and Expression Studio are tools used by the developers and UI designers. Expression Studio is primarily used by the UI designers to create the layouts, styles, animations, etc. Visual Studio is used by the developers to write the code behind to take care of the functionality and processing. Both Visual Studio and Expression Studio make use of the same project definition structure. Hence a project created in Visual Studio can be opened in Expression Studio and vice versa. XBAP (stands for XAML Browser Application) XBAP is a WPF application run in the
  • Villus Capillary - Your First Maya Scene from A-to-Z
  • The goal of this tutorial is to create an animation that takes you through some of the typical steps in a 3D pipeline: project set-up, modeling, surfacing, animation/dynamics, rendering. I have broken out the compositing/editing steps into a separate tutorial entitled “After Effects Compositing Basics.” Although this tutorial aims to cover many of the steps that went into creating the animation, certain starting materials have been prepared for you. Before we begin, if this is your first interaction with Maya, let’s spend a few minutes to practice basic viewport navigation and transforms! Create a primitive polygonal cube: Create -> Polygon Primitives -> Cube. Refer to the “Maya Keyboard Shortcuts” sheet (on the ‘Tutorials’ page) to move around the perspective viewport and move/scale/rotate the cube.
