  • Migrating Atlas to ASP.NET AJAX Final Content
  • Migrating Atlas applications to ASP.NET AJAX sounds like a rather hard and messy task; all applications have to be changed. However, in most cases, not much effort is required for the migration. There are several reasons for this. First, the most important features of Atlas changed only marginally in ASP.NET AJAX. And second, the most convenient features already exist, not in the ASP.NET AJAX package itself but in the Atlas Control Toolkit, which is now called ASP.NET AJAX Control Toolkit. This Short Cut mentions important changes for every chapter in Programming Atlas, if applicable. Not all of the functionality used in Programming Atlas survived the switch to ASP.NET AJAX; however, the most important elements of the framework are still there, and continue to work in a very similar fashion. Of course this Short Cut is not complete and does not cover every aspect that has been changed. It should help you, however, to judge whether it is feasible to port existing Atlas applications to ASP.NET AJAX or not. Download pdf Migrating Atlas to ASP.NET AJAX Final Content
  • Generic HTML Form Processor: PHP script to save Web-collected data into a MySQL database
  • The customizable PHP script Generic HTML Form Processor is intended to assist researchers and students in quickly setting up surveys and experiments that can be administered via the Web. This script relieves researchers from the burdens of writing new cGi scripts and building databases for each Web study. Generic HTML Form Processor processes any syntactically correct HTML form input and saves it into a dynamically created open-source database. We describe five modes for usage of the script that allow increasing functionality but require increasing levels of knowledge of PHP and Web servers: The first two modes require no previous knowledge, and the fifth requires PHP programming expertise. use of Generic HTML Form Processor is free for academic purposes, and its Web address is www.goeritz.net/brmic. There are other advantages of Web research. On the Web, people can be tested at any time and place, laboratory rooms or physically present experimenters are not necessary (so experimenter effects remain constant), and automated data handling reduces both the labor and error of data coding and entry (Birnbaum & Reips, 2005; Göritz & Schumacher, 2000). In addition, the Web method allows one to collect large samples inexpensively, which makes it possible to draw clear conclusions and to check their generality to different subsamples tested (Birnbaum, 1999; Reips, 2002). An example of an HTML Web form is given in Birnbaum (2000). Such an HTML page can be placed on a server, where the participant can view it and fill in answers by typing in information and clicking on
  • Google Desktop Query API Developer Guide
  • The Query API described in the first part of this document was introduced with Google Desktop 3. We cover how to use it with both native plug-ins and script-based plug-ins, and assume that you are familiar with the general principles of how to write Desktop plug-ins. The latter part of this document describes methods for issuing Desktop search queries using HTTP and XML. This XML-based API is supported by both the Windows and Mac OS X versions of Google Desktop. Mac OS X support was added in Google Desktop Mac 1.0.3. You can only use the Query API if you have registered with it and thus obtained a Query API registration cookie. Note that this is in addition to the general registration of your plug-in with Google Desktop. There are two types of Query API registration cookies, read-only and read-write. Usually, you'll only need a read-only cookie. The read-write cookie is only needed when you remove an item from the Google Desktop index. We recommend that your plug-in encrypt the registration cookie when it saves it, and, of course, be able to decrypt it when you pass it to the various Query API methods and objects. You'll need a global identifier (GUID) for your plug-in to pass to the registration method. You can use a tool such as guidgen.exe to generate. Download pdf Google Desktop Query API Developer Guide
  • Making FITS available on DotNet Applications
  • The Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) is a powerful and widely adopted means of exchanging Astronomical Data. There are also a great number of tools and libraries available on many platforms to facilitate working with FITS. We present the FitsLib 1, A library written to facilitate development of astronomical data analysis tools on the Microsoft.Net Platform. This has been developed as a wrapper over one of the very popular and time tested FITS libraries, CFITSIO. Fits.Net library merges the advantages of speed and ruggedness of CFITSIO with the language independence of the Microsoft.Net technology and a simple Document Object Model (DOM). We believe this library will be intuitive for .NET programmers. We present the design and usage patterns of the library in C-Sharp. We also discuss performance issues of the library. Finally we present a number of applications and web services, which are currently running on this library. We wished to use the CFITSIO package in developing image cutout services on the Microsoft’s .Net Platform in the C-Sharp language. This is a comprehensive library and we did not feel translation was viable, C-Sharp does allow use of managed C++. We set out to wrap a minimal set of routines in the managed C++ programming environment. This minimal set, however, grew larger as more functionality was required in C-Sharp. It became apparent that developing code with so many pointers and unmanaged data objects in C-Sharp would prove to be prohibitive, both for development and for maintenance. This led to the design of an
  • CREATING A HIGH-KEY LOOK TO YOUR PHOTO – PHOTOSHOP TUTORIAL
  • In this tutorial, you will learn how to alter a typical color portrait so that it looks like a professional high- key studio shot. Here are the before and after photos: Open up the photo you want to use. Then desaturate your photo by clicking on Image / Adjustment / Desaturate. Now we will kick it up a notch by altering the curves. To do this, click on Image / Adjustment / Curves. You will need to adjust the input and output numbers of your curve. Hover your mouse over the diagonal line and then click once. The input and output number boxes will now be visible. Change the Input number to 171 and the Output number to 240. Then click OK In order to blur out the background a bit, we will add a Gaussian blur. First, make a duplicate of your photo by right-clicking on it in the Layers Palette You will now have two layers. The bottom layer is your original and the top layer is your duplicate. Now add a guassian blur to this duplicate (top) layer by clicking on Filter / Blur / Gaussian Blur. Change the radius to 30.0. In order to have just the background blurred and your subject’s features (eyes, nose, mouth) nice and sharp, we will add a layer mask to the blurred layer and erase some of this layer to expose the sharp image beneath. You may want to view respective segments of the Demonstration before working with a particular step of the Tutorial. Please note that Tutorial has been developed in I-P system only. If you are unfamiliar with I-P system units, we recommend you to use the Tutorial as a learning tool and simply input the numbers as shown here. You will easily transition to Metric system on your real-life project. MeMate requires AutoCAD 2000 or later installed in your computer. There are no special hardware requirements imposed by MeMate. If AutoCAD works on your machine, so does MeMate. To apply MeMate HVAC successfully, you need very little knowledge of AutoCAD. Basically, you have to know how to: • open and save drawings, • use zoom command, • pick a single entity, • select entities using select objects options, • pick a point on the screen, • input numeric and alphanumeric values in the dialogs and in the command prompt area. Optionally, you may use AutoCAD move command to improve the presentation of the final drawing, and layer and
