The GO-Global Server environment is, by definition, a thin-client, 100 percent server-centric architecture. Because the GO-Global clients will be available for many different desktop platforms (Linux, Macintosh, and others), the GO-Global Server provides access to 32-bit Windows-based applications from virtually any desktop. The GO-Global Server allows you to roll out 32-bit Windows-based applications to a heterogeneous set of desktops while transitioning to a pure 32-bit desktop environment.
Unlike the traditional client/server environment, an application runs only on the server in the GO-Global Server environment. The GO-Global client performs virtually no local processing of applications. The GO-Global Server transmits only the application presentation—the Graphical User Interface, or GUI—down to the client. Each user logs on and perceives only his or her own session, which is transparently managed by the server operating system and is independent from any other client session.
From an application development perspective, one of the biggest benefits of the GO-Global Server is that the majority of existing 32-bit application programs run "as is"—no programming changes are required to run them on a GO-Global Server. This does not, however, mean that all existing 32-bit applications run equally well under GO-Global Server. As with the addition of any new operating system service, understanding how to design applications that take advantage of these new capabilities is important. Study results show promise for using cluster analysis as a tool for incorporating the user’s organizational structure into the design of a complex menu architecture. Cluster analysis may also benefit the automotive menu designer by providing a means for partitioning menu tasks into chunkable units that can be easily accessed by the driver in single glances.

This article shows how to develop Java™ Web components based on JSP tag files, which are much simpler and easier to build than the JSF components.
JSP and JSF are the most important Java standards that we use today for building Web applications. The philosophies of these two technologies are quite different, however. With JSP, the underlying mechanisms are simple, you control what is happening, and you have the freedom to do things how you want. JSF adds some complexity and processing overhead, but the application model is standardized, which means tools can do more for you, vendors can provide component libraries, and developers can focus on building applications.
As Parts 2 and 3 of this series demonstrated, you don't really need a complex framework for building Web forms. If you like simplicity or if you need to develop a Web application quickly, you can use the JSP Standard Tag Library (JSTL) in combination with tag files and dynamic attributes.
