  • Intrusive Data Structures
  • This article compares two styles of building data structures and data structure libraries in C++: (a) Intrusive data structures formed by pointers stored inside the application objects, (b) Containers where auxiliary objects form the required data structure, and only point to the application objects without adding any pointers or other data to them. Each style works better in different situations, and the first half of the article discusses the impact of this choice on program performance, code maintainability, ease of use and data integrity. When working with templates, containers are easier to implement, which may be the reason why most class libraries are based on containers. The only existing library which is consistently intrusive (Code Farms) uses a code generator. If intrusive data structures could not be implemented with templates, their applicability would be severely limited. The second half of the article deals with this pivotal question, shows an elegant way of building an intrusive data structure library with templates, explains why its interface is similar to- but cannot be identical with STL, discusses the impact of the new architecture on class dependency, and compares the new approach with existing libraries. A prototype of the new library is now available under the name Pattern Template Library. Open any book on data structures, and somewhere near the beginning you will find a linked list similar to Fig.1a. This is the type of list you would probably use in your program if you were not using any class library. Download pdf Intrusive Data Structures
  • Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) Crack pdf article
  • Windows Genuine Crack, Complete with a Microsoft apology The Windows Genuine Advantage crack is done and over with. Simply water under the bridge. 12,000 Windows Vista and Windows XP impacted customers and 20 hours of erroneous invalidations the past weekend’s WGA cracks is now complete with a Microsoft apology. The Redmond company revealed at the end of some three-four days worth of investigating that the WGA lapse was generated by a human error. Nothing more and nothing else than the preproduction code being accidentally (!) sent to production servers and managing to impact both Microsoft’s activation and validation aspect of the general anti-piracy mechanism. Alex Kochis, Senior Product Manager for Windows Genuine Advantage revealed that the preproduction code was taken down in less than 30 minutes by rolling back all changes introduced, but that its effects ripped through the WGA validation process from August 24 to August 25 incorrectly labeling genuine copies of Vista and XP as pirated. “For the customers who failed validation from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning the experience was that features we refer to as ‘genuine-only’ features were disabled. These features are Windows Aero, Windows ReadyBoost, Windows Defender (in this state Defender will scan and identify all threats it would ordinarily, but will only clean ones marked ‘severe’) and Windows Update (in this state only ‘optional’ updates are unavailable, all others can still be downloaded, including security updates). Also a desktop message appears in the lower right hand corner of the desktop area. The message reads ‘This
  • Setting Options and Customising Microsoft Excel 2002
  • Like all Microsoft Office products, Excel allows you to customise various settings to suit your own requirements. Whereas Microsoft Word has a default template called normal.dot, Excel has a special file called Excel.xlb in which your settings are stored. Note that not all settings are stored here, however - for example, each file has its own colour palette. Perhaps the most useful customisation centres around the toolbars and menus. You can decide which toolbars to display (and where you would like them positioned on the screen). If you want to, you can remove, add or rearrange the buttons on a toolbar (or the commands in a menu). You can even create your own toolbars and menus, adding either built-in commands or your own (using macros - see Writing Macros in Microsoft Excel 2003 for further information). Another common area of customisation concerns charts. You can create your own chart types and change the palette of colours used on charts. Defining your own types lets you apply a given layout to a set of charts - eg for a particular publication or thesis. While on the subject of colours, you can also modify the default colour palette used for fonts and filling cells. A further aspect of customisation centres around customised lists. A few lists are built into the system (eg the days of the week and months of the year) but you can create your own. These can then be used to fill further cells or to sort data in a particular order.

  • Video SEO for Newspapers
  • Newspapers are struggling with harsh economic realities, and are seeking creative new revenue sources while transitioning from their traditional print-centric business model, to where their audience has migrated – the Internet. A major part of this transition involves newspaper companies producing greater amounts of video content online. Some are hoping the proven high engagement rates of video will generate to their websites greater traffic levels, longer time spent, and more follow-through actions from visitors – all with the ultimate goal of more revenue from advertisers, and overall monetization. Newspapers are on the right path with producing regular video content, but they have largely been unsuccessful with their delivery and financial strategy. Newspapers are very capable of reaching their end goal, but it requires them adding a new component, which harnesses the full potential of traffic, engagement, and conversions – Video Search Engine Optimization, aka, “Video SEO." Beginning 2009, Video SEO is a proven marketing strategy for many businesses, with well-established experts and applications already in place. Newspaper companies, including media companies with newspaper properties, are in a unique position to benefit from Video SEO and set their companies back on track to Internet revenue growth. However, newspapers cannot do this on their own. They will need to enlist the aid of Video SEO experts possessing an understanding of the special needs of publishing companies like newspapers, along with a proper application of the video publishing and SEO tools now available. This is essential if they are to be successful with transitioning to a
  • Unisys and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Speed Up the Process
  • Unisys and Microsoft have dispelled the perception that for high performance ETL, the only alternative is a UNIX-based solution. With SQL Server 2005 Integration Services, Microsoft and Unisys deliver an optimized ETL solution that will support even the most demanding enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives. They conducted a series of real ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Load) tests with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS, formerly known as DTS). Performance tests compared throughput, scalability and performance on both 32- and 64-bit processor configurations on a Unisys ES7000. SSIS demonstrated parallelism and the ability to utilize all available CPUs in multiple aggregation, parallel lookup and transformation testing. The testing extracted, transformed and loaded more than 1.2 billion sales and marketing order line items into a data warehouse in less than an hour. It processed one billion lookups over a dimension table with 100 million rows in just over 24 minutes, or about 683,000 lookups/second. Integration Services on a 16-processor Unisys ES7000 processed 16 parallel transformation workloads amounting to 14.84 GB of raw data in 8 minutes, a rate of 1.86 GB/minute. The test results documented in this paper prove that Microsoft SSIS running on an ES7000 server can take advantage of parallelism and multiple processors to deliver the extremely high rates of transformation throughput. Through collaborative benchmark testing and engineering, Unisys and Microsoft mitigate implementation risk by validating optimal performance and establishing best practices in system sizing and configuration to achieve high performance levels. • Importing Maya Models into Crysis
  • T his tutorial will explain how to export static textured models (meaning no animation yet) from Maya into Crysis. I’ll update this tutorial as I learn more about the process and more tools become available. Big thanks to Psychojohno and Spiderdan for their tutorials which taught me a lot! What you need: • Maya 6.0 • The Far Cry SDK version 1.4 (you can get it from fileShack) • This script: CryExportUserInterface_001b.mel. (look for an updated version at http://seithcg.com/wordpress/?page_id=51) Important requirements: • Your object should be in its own directory inside of “Crysis/Game/Objects/My Objects/”. e.g.: “Crysis/Game/Objects/My Objects/toto/toto.ma” • The object’s textures should be inside the object’s directory. e.g.: “Crysis/Game/Objects/My Objects/toto/toto.dds”. But you can actually use any texture from any object, as long as the files are in the Crysis/Game folder. • For now the shader you use in Maya HAS to be either a “blinn” or a “phong” shader (NOT a “lambert”!).
