Switching Office Suites from Microsoft Office to OpenOffice.orgYou've been thinking about it for a while. You've seen the PDF converter and sighed longingly; you've blushed before the skeptical glances of your open-source and anti-Microsoft friends who say "You're still using Microsoft Office?" you're looking at your budget and wondering why you would pay to get Microsoft Office 2007. And you've received Word 2007 files and haven't been able to open them, so you know there's going to be some file format issues no matter what you do.
But you haven't switched over to OpenOffice.org. Quite yet. I'm here to help. Think of this as a virtual guide, the written version of me coming over to your house on a Sunday afternoon to help get to know OpenOffice.org and figure out all the things you're not quite sure about. Sit down with this article this weekend and in a few hours you'll feel refreshed, open sourced, and able to hold your head high when you run into those roving gangs of open source supporters.
Why Switch?
You have your own reasons: price, or principles, or you're setting up a nice cheap Linux laptop for your daughter to use at school. Here are a couple things I like to talk about.
Spend your money on something important
I realize that since I'm targeting this article at individuals, that the upgrade or full price of Microsoft Office might not make or break you. But if it's you and your family; your small business; your volunteer organization that feeds homeless families...now you even more seriously needMARIST Cisco VPN Client & Mac OSX Wireless User's GuideStep 1 [Installation]:

TestDriven.NET - QuickstartThis section provides a 'Quickstart' guide to using TestDriven.NET any version of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Test Driven Development is the practice of writing unit tests for your code before you actually write that code. By writing a test and then writing the code to make that test pass you have a much better idea of what the goal and purpose of your code is. Test Driven Development also encourage complete code coverage, which not only increases the quality of your code, but also allows you to refactor the internals of a method or class and quickly and easily test the outside interface of the object.
TestDriven.NET is a unit testing add-in for Visual Studio. It was developed for a number of years under the name NUnitAddIn. It supports multiple unit testing frameworks including NUnit, MbUnit, csUnit and MS Team System and is compatible with all versions of Visual Studio .NET. It is available in free and (in the future)professional versions. Installing
TestDriven.NET can be installed using an administrator or limited user account. By default it will install for just the current user. Because limited users don't have write access to the 'Program Files' folder, a limited user installation will install files in user's 'Application DataTestDriven.NET' folder. An administrator installation will install files in the 'Program FilesTestDriven.NET' folder. These defaults can be changed by selecting 'Custom' on the 'Choose Setup Type' page.
TestDriven.NET is packaged with functional versions of the NUnit and MbUnit unit testing frameworks. It also includes an adaptor for executingConverting Pipe-Delimited ASCII Text Files into Microsoft Access 2002Using the Windows XP 2002 Professional Operating System with Service Pack 2 (SP2)

Download PDFBest Practices for Secure Web DevelopmentThe following document is intended as a guideline for developing secure web-based applications. It is not about how to configure firewalls, intrusion detection, DMZ or how to resist DDoS attacks. This is a task best addressed at system and network level. However, there is little material available today intended for developers. We have entered the dotcom age in which a web site is no longer an isolated site, but an extension of the internal business systems, yet there isn’t much about how to create this extension securely.
Traditionally, developers have worked on systems for environments where malicious intents were not a real threat: internal systems, software for home use, intranets. There may have been occasional exceptions, sometimes with embarrassing outcomes, but they could be dealt with at HR level and the example prevented others from attempting it again. An isolated (read: not linked with internal systems) web site is not far from the same scenario: the security was treated mostly at the system level by installing the necessary OS and web server fixes and applying correct settings and permissions. If a breach occurred, the system was taken offline, rebuilt better and the site put up again. Everything at a system administration level.
However, as the Internet becomes more and more commercial (after all, this is where the .com comes from), a web site becomes more and more an application. Thus, the team has more and more developers, skilled in web and traditional development. However, few resources for them focus enough on securityCryptanalysis of Microsoft's PPTP Authentication ExtensionsThe Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) [HP+97] is a protocol that allows Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connections [Sim94] to be tunneled through an IP network, creating a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Microsoft has implemented its own algorithms and protocols to support PPTP. This implementation of PPTP, called Microsoft PPTP, is used extensively in commercial VPN products precisely because it is already a part of the Microsoft Windows 95, 98, and NT operating systems.
The authentication protocol in Microsoft PPTP is the Microsoft Challenge / Reply Handshake Protocol (MS-CHAP) [ZC98]; the encryption protocol is Microsoft Point to Point Encryption (MPPE) [PZ98]. After Microsoft’s PPTP was cryptanalyzed [SM98] and significant weaknesses were publicized, Microsoft upgraded their protocols [Zor98a, Zor98b, Zor99]. The new version is called MS-CHAP version 2 (MS-CHAPv2); the older version has been renamed as MS-CHAP version 1 (MS-CHAPv1). MS-CHAPv2 is available as an upgrade for Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0 (DUN 1.3) [Mic98a, Mic98b]. Even though this upgrade is available, we believe that most implementation of PPTP use MS-CHAPv1.
This paper examines MS-CHAPv2 and discusses how well it addresses the security weaknesses outlined in [SM98].
The most significant changes from MS-CHAPv1 to MS-CHAPv2 are:
• The weaker LAN Manager hash is no longer sent along with the stronger Windows NT hash. This is to prevent automatic password crackers like L0phtcrack [L99] from first breaking the weaker LAN Manager hash and then using that information to break the stronger NT hash [L97].
• An authentication scheme for the server has been introduced. This isPhotoshop Tutorial Soft skinHere are some of the methods I use for portraits to soften the skin of the model. This tutorial was made using Adobe Photoshop cs2. I am not a professional in post-processing and I do this for fun. Since I have learned most of the things I know about post-processing by reading on the internet, this tutorial is my way to give back.
The photograph I am using for this tutorial was taken by me and I am the model. Note that usually, the results of photoshop work like this look better on a female’s portrait. :)
Please, don’t complain because the composition and lighting are bad, some area are blowned out, soft skin looks better on females etc etc.. I KNOW !! :) It’s ALL about the skin being smoother and keeping the details of the eyes, mouth and hairs.
Enjoy, I really do hope you learn something new. Please forgive my bad writing skills in english.
Let’s start..
