Installing Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing
Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing runs from your hard drive, but you must have the CD in the drive for it to operate. To complete the installation, 200 MB free space is required on your hard drive to store some program files. Close all other programs and applications before installing. These instructions assume that the AutoPlay feature is turned on. Windows®
1. Insert the Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing CD in the CD-ROM drive.
2. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup process. Click the Run button to start the program. The setup program places Mavis Beacon file icons in the Start menu, under The Learning Company program group.
3. To run the program with the AutoPlay feature turned off, make sure you have the CD in the drive. From the Start menu, choose Programs, The Learning Company, Mavis Beacon, then Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing.
Hint: When your computer is turned on and Windows® 95/98, Me, 2000, or XP is running, you may launch the Uninstall program from the autorun screen. Place your Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing CD into your CD-ROM drive. Once the CD is in your CD-ROM drive, the autorun screen appears; click Uninstall and follow the on-screen instructions.

Languages like C and C++ allow a programmer to write code at a very detailed level which has good execution speed (especially in the case of C). But in most applications, execution speed is not important, and in many cases one would prefer to write at a higher level. For example, for text-manipulation applications, the basic unit in C/C++ is a character, while for languages like Perl and Python the basic units are lines of text and words within lines. One can work with lines and words in C/C++, but one must go to greater effort to accomplish the same thing.
The term scripting language has never been formally defined, but here are the typical characteristics:
• Used often for system administration, Web programming, text processing, etc.
• Very casual with regard to typing of variables, e.g. little or no distinction between integer, floating-point or string variables. Arrays can mix elements of different “types,” such as integers and strings. Functions can return nonscalars, e.g. arrays. Nonscalars can be used as loop indexes. Etc.
• Lots of high-level operations intrinsic to the language, e.g. string concatenation and stack push/pop.
• Interpreted, rather than being compiled to the instruction set of the host machine

The first really popular scripting language was Perl. It is still in wide usage today, but the languages with momentum are Python and the Python-like Ruby. Many people, including me, greatly prefer Python to Perl, as it is much cleaner and more elegant. AutoCAD is an interactive drawing system designed to permit a user to construct or edit a drawing on a graphics display screen. It is similar to other word-processing programs except that in this case the thing being processed is a drawing. Each drawing is stored on a disk file, and AutoCAD is only able to edit one drawing at a time. An AutoCAD drawing is made up of entities. All the objects in the drawing space are considered entities such as lines, arcs, circles, text, and so on or blocks (which are groups of entities).
The entities are defined geometrically in terms of the normal Cartesian coordinate system (right-handed system with positive X-axis to the right, positive Y-axis up the screen and positive Z-axis coming out of the screen towards the user). For example, lines are defined by their end- point coordinates (x, y and z), while circles are defined by their center coordinates and radius. Each entity also has certain attributes associated with it, such as line style, text font or color.
AutoCAD organizes information in different layers like other programs like Photoshop and Illustrator. This means that any drawing entity can be assigned to any layer of the drawing.
