Developers have traditionally had a love-hate relationship with Crystal Reports; they loved the functionality it provided and the free run-time license, but they hated having to upgrade to the latest version to get the features they required. Another complaint was that reports could not be created or modified programmatically; they could be created only through the user interface (UI) with either the developer UI with Visual Studio or the consumer UI with the Crystal Reports retail package.

WPF/E). The idea behind Silverlight is simple -- provide a cross-browser, cross-platform technology for 2D vector graphics, animations and DRM high-definition media. Currently, Microsoft is targeting the Mac using either Firefox or Safari and Windows using IE6/IE7 or Firefox.
There are actually two different versions of Silverlight currently available. The first, 1.0 (beta), utilizes the same XAML tags as WPF to describe the visual appearance and animations for content. It uses Javascript to control the behavior of those elements by allowing Javascript functions to locate and manipulate properties of the elements created in XAML. This release targets web developers as it uses many of the technologies they are familiar with and use in their development today.
The second version, 1.1 (alpha) was announced at MIX '07 and it adds a CLR engine to the implementation - allowing the code behind to be done in C# or VB.NET instead of Javascript. This will radically change the playing field, as it will open up rich-client web applications to a wide audience of .NET developers.
The first step in using either version of Silverlight is to download the appropriate browser plug-in. You can get these from the Silverlight website http://www.silverlight.net. Both 1.0 and 1.1 versions have Mac and Windows implementations available. If you want to use Visual Studio .NET to do your development, then you should download the Orcas Beta release and the project template for Silverlight.

The methods for deploying any of these products as a PHP extension are the same in all cases. However, only one product of the PDFlib family can be used at a time. Similarly, multiple versions of these products cannot be deployed at the same time. Different products can coexist within one PHP installation, however. Note that the evaluation versions of commercial PDFlib products will be fully functional, but will display a demo stamp across all generated PDF pages unless a valid license key is applied.

On the “server-side”, XML based Web services are replacing some of the key functionalities and providing distributed application access through Web services interfaces. These remote capabilities to invoke methods over GET, POST or SOAP from the Web browser itself provide new openings to applications. On other side, RIA frameworks running on XML, XUL, Flash, Applets and JavaScripts are adding new possible sets of vectors. RIA, AJAX and Web services are adding new dimensions to Web application security.

Data compression applies to individual tables and indexes within a database and comes in two options: ROW and PAGE. Backup compression is a new option when backing up a database to external storage. Both compression techniques can be used to reduce the amount of online storage required for databases and their backups.
Data Compression
Data compression can be configured for an entire heap (table with no clustered index), clustered index, non-clustered index, or indexed view. For partitioned tables and indexes, the compression option can be configured separately (and differently) for each partition.
The data compression option can be specified during CREATE TABLE or CREATE INDEX by using the new table_option DATA_COMPRESSION = NONE or ROW or PAGE. The data compression option can also be changed later through ALTER TABLE or ALTER INDEX with a (new for TABLE) REBUILD clause. Data compression affects the physical storage of columns within a row and rows within a page on disk and in memory. It does not change the logical attributes of the data or the way it is presented by the database, so there are no changes visible to the application.
Data compression requires more processing for select, insert, and update than for uncompressed data.
Furthermore, compression is generally more expensive than decompression. For these reasons, in most cases, Microsoft recommends that compression not be used on tables and indexes if the size of
