  • Threat Profiling Microsoft SQL Server
  • An attacker's location in the application space and/or the network will largely define how they would approach breaking into a SQL Server 2000 machine from a remote location. If their attacks go through SQL Injection via a web server then their 'cursus incursi' will be considerably different from those when direct access can be gained to the SQL Server. Consequently, this paper will be split into four main sections. The first section will cover attacks that do not require the attacker to have a user ID and password for the SQL Server, that is, the attacks are unauthenticated. The second section will cover those attacks that do require authentication; to succeed the user must be logged onto the SQL Server. The third section will consider those attacks that can be launched from a compromised server. Before any job is undertaken, be it grouting the shower or paving a patio, a lot of unnecessary grief can be avoided by getting the right tools before hand and attacking a computer system is no different. As far as compromising a Microsoft SQL Server is concerned the 'tools of the trade' are a combination of the SQL Server client tools, such as Query Analyzer, SQLPing and a C compiler. One of the most important tools is a copy of MS SQL Server itself. It's far better to examine vulnerability and code an exploit for it on a system in the lab, rather than experimenting on the live target system. Whilst SQL Server is generally good

  • Tutorial: Saving an Object as a Picture Tube in Paint Shop Pro
  • Paint Shop Pro 6 Tutorial by Elizabeth Weaver So you’ve made the perfect bead, leaf, button, something you’re proud of. Why not make it into a picture tube to have in easy reach? This tutorial will only cover how to save any object as a picture tube; see another tutorial for making Easy Beads in Paint Shop Pro. Here is a fresh new bead. In the case of a strand of beads, however, I would want it to have no extra space, so that it will rest up next to the bead on either side of it. So get rid of the extra space by selecting it and cropping to selection. You won’t need to worry about this with objects that won’t be “strung”. To save as a picture tube, Go to File, Export, Picture Tube. The pop up window will need a couple of things. For a single picture tube, there is only one cell across and one down. For beads, you will want to have Placement mode be “Continuous”. For objects such as leaves or buttons that might be lying in a pile, you might want to choose “Random”. Remember you will have the option to change this anytime you use the picture tube (on the picture tube toolbar) so this is just your default. The step size is the width of your object when you want them to touch, in this case 100 pixels. Selection mode doesn’t matter since there is only the one tube Download pdf Tutorial: Saving
  • .NET Framework Security
  • The .NET Framework is an integral Windows component that supports building and running the next generation of applications and XML Web services. The .NET Framework is designed to fulfill the following objectives: • To provide a consistent object-oriented programming environment whether object code is stored and executed locally, executed locally but Internet-distributed, or executed remotely. • To provide a code-execution environment that minimizes software deployment and versioning conflicts. • To provide a code-execution environment that promotes safe execution of code, including code created by an unknown or semi-trusted third party. • To provide a code-execution environment that eliminates the performance problems of scripted or interpreted environments. • To make the developer experience consistent across widely varying types of applications, such as Windows-based applications and Web-based applications. • To build all communication on industry standards to ensure that code based on the .NET Framework can integrate with any other code. The Framework has appeared as an alternative to Sun’s Java platform (http://java.sun.com), but has yet to receive as wide acceptance as the more established Java. A comparison between Java and .NET is beyond the scope of this document. .NET accommodates the use of several different programming languages, as long as they conform to the Common Type System (CTS), a part of the Common Language Infrastructure (CLI) [14]. It is argued [15, Ch. 2] that this allows developers with different language backgrounds to still use their preferred languages and not get locked in to a specific language that the Framework supports. The validity of this argument can be questioned. For a
  • Miniview IOGear G-CS12/14 2/4 KVM Port Switch Owners Manual Guide
  • IOGEAR’s KVM switches are first-rate connectivity accessories designed to help reduce the frustration of managing multiple computer systems. With the MiniView series by IOGEAR, you can access multiple computers from a single console (keyboard, mouse and monitor). The MiniView provides two convenient methods to access connected computers. Change ports easily via the push button selection switch located on the unit’s side panel, or by entering Hot Key combinations from the keyboard. Setup is fast and easy; plugging cables into their appropriate ports is all that is entailed. There is no software to configure, no installation routines and no incompatibility problems. Since the MiniView intercepts keyboard input directly, it works on any PS/2 compatible hardware platform and with all operating systems. There is no better way to save time and money than with a MiniView . By allowing a single console to manage the attached computers, the MiniView eliminates the expense of purchasing a separate keyboard, monitor and mouse for each PC. Additionally, these switches save all the extra space multiple consoles would take up, and eliminate the inconvenience and wasted effort involved in constantly having to move from one PC to the other. • Friend or Foe? Web 2.0 in Technical Communication
  • The rise of Web 2.0 technology provides a platform for user-generated content.Publishing is no longer restricted to a few technical writers—any user can now contribute information. But the information coming from users tends to be highly specific, whereas technical documentation is comprehensive but less specific. The two types of information can coexist and improve the overall user experience. User-generated content also offers an opportunity for technical writers to participate as “curators”—by evaluating and organizing the information provided by end users. Technical writers are accustomed to being the gatekeepers for product information. They carefully organize product documentation, online help, and other user assistance for their readers. Compare this to the chaos of the Web, where content is splattered across blogs, forums, wikis, and the like with little or no organizational scheme. And yet, readers are turning to the chaos of the Web for information rather than reading the online help. They begin with a Google search and work through the results until they find something relevant. User-generated content and technical documentation can be complementary rather than competitive. In this white paper, we explore the implications of user-generated content and discuss how technical writers can integrate this content into their overall strategy. Download pdf Friend or Foe? Within each category there is a range of different models and accessories, each with their own features to meet individual needs Scooters and buggies look very similar, the main difference being that scooters dismantle while buggies do not.
