  • First Hibernate example using Java
  • This tutorial shows a simple example using Hibernate. We will create a simple Java application, showing how Hibernate works. Hibernate is a solution for object relational mapping and a persistence management solution or persistent layer. This is probably not understandable for anybody learning Hibernate. What you can imagine is probably that you have your application with some functions (business logic) and you want to save data in a database. When you use Java all the business logic normally works with objects of different class types. Your database tables are not at all objects. Hibernate provides a solution to map database tables to a class. It copies the database data to a class. In the other direction it supports to save objects to the database. In this process the object is transformed to one or more tables. Saving data to a storage is called persistence. And the copying of tables to objects and vice versa is called object relational mapping. Download pdf First Hibernate example using Java
  • Installing and using the Message Box Knowledge Object for Authorware
  • This document assumes you have a copy of the Message Box KO installer. You can download the Message Box KO from the internet at: http://www.learningconsulting.com. Please contact AEC Consulting directly, for more information. The Message Box KO works with Authorware 5, 6 and 6.5. Please make sure that Authorware is installed and/or available before launching the installer. The installer for the Message Box KO is very simple. The only prompts that you typically need to follow are the “Next” and “Finish” buttons. To install the Message Box KO: 1. Double-click the Message Box KO installer file. 2. In the Welcome screen, click Next to install the KOs shown in Figure 1, below. 3. The Message Box KO installer tries to automatically find the location where Authorware is installed. If it is unable to determine this location, you may receive a prompt similar to Figure 2, to manually locate the Authorware folder. Otherwise, the installer immediately copies the necessary files to appropriate Authorware subfolders, see Figure 3. If the installer copies the Message Box KO files to a location other than the intended Authorware folder (i.e. Authorware is installed in more than one location), contact your vendor for more information. Upon closer inspection, I found a small

  • Websense Web Security Solutions
  • In the past, most Web content was static and predictable. But today’s reality is that Web content—even from so-called “trusted” sites—is constantly changing with end-users encouraged to post, edit, or manipulate content. The most popular and heavily-trafficked sites that make the most use of dynamic Web 2.0 content, are also the most vulnerable to attack. In fact, according to Websense® research covering the first half of 2008, over sixty percent of these top 100 sites either hosted malicious content or contained a masked redirect to an illegitimate site. Websense understands both the content and the context of the Internet landscape through its industry-leading ThreatSeeker™ Network, and feeds this intelligence into all its security solutions. Websense is the first security vendor to address the risks of Web 2.0 by deploying ThreatSeeker analytics inline at the customer’s gateway, providing dynamic, adaptive protection against new threats and uncategorized content. Websense customers can now harness the power of Web 2.0, while keeping security risks in check by examining the content of both inbound and outbound HTTP and SSL-encrypted traffic. Real-time content analysis is combined with powerful anti-malware, Web reputation, and URL filtering protection to proactively block malicious content before other security solutions even know it exists. This approach keeps networks secure, while still enabling the latest Web-based tools, applications, and legitimate content. Download pdf Websense Web Security Solutions

  • Engaging the YouTube Google-Eyed Generation: Strategies for Using Web 2.0 in Teaching and Learning
  • YouTube, Podcasting, Blogs, Wikis and RSS are buzz words currently associated with the term Web 2.0 and represent a shifting pedagogical paradigm for the use of a new set of tools within education. The implication here is a possible shift from the basic archetypical vehicles used for (e)learning today (lecture notes, printed material, PowerPoint, websites, animation) towards a ubiquitous user-centric, user-content generated and user- guided experience. It is not sufficient to use online learning and teaching technologies simply for the delivery of content to students. A new “Learning Ecology” is present where these Web 2.0 technologies can be explored for collaborative and (co)creative purposes as well as for the critical assessment, evaluation and personalization of information. Web 2.0 technologies provide educators with many possibilities for engaging students in desirable practices such as collaborative content creation, peer assessment and motivation of students through innovative use of media. These can be used in the development of authentic learning tasks and enhance the learning experience. However in order for a new learning tool, be it print, multimedia, blog, podcast or video, to be adopted, educators must be able to conceptualize the possibilities for use within a concrete framework. This paper outlines some possible strategies for educators to incorporate the use of some of these Web 2.0 technologies into the student learning experience. Why should the notion of incorporating Web 2.0 and interacting with for example socially distributed and user-created videos (e.g. from www.youtube.com) be important within education? In what ways has the rapid development of
