Starting Excel
1. Main Menu: Contains all features in Excel.
2. Tool Bars: Standard Tool Bar and Formatting Tool Bar. These allow you quick access to commonly used tools.
3. Cell: The standard unit you work with in Excel.
4. Worksheet: The workspace of Excel.
5. Task Pane: Shows current options of your currently selected category.
6. Worksheet Tabs: Multiple Worksheets, easily changed by clicking on the tabs.

Microsoft Access 2003 is a powerful, yet easy to learn, relational database application for Microsoft Windows. This tutorial is designed for users who are new or only have little experience using Access 2003. It introduces fundamental database concepts and operations and illustrates how they are performed in Microsoft Access 2003. This tutorial does not cover all of the features and functions of Microsoft Access 2003; emphasis will be on basic and frequently-used features, such as the creation of tables and queries, or importing spreadsheet into Access.

This handout introduces the basic features of Microsoft Excel, a spreadsheet program on Macintoshes and on computers running Microsoft Windows. The handout covers entering and editing data, formatting, formulas, page setup, and printing spreadsheets.
Starting Excel
You can start Excel by:
1. Double-clicking on the Microsoft Excel application icon. This application is usually in a folder called Excel. An alias for this icon appears on the desktop of the computers in the Student Microcomputer Facility.
2. Double-clicking on the icon of any Excel document. When you double-click an Excel document, Excel opens with the document already loaded.

The vast majority of Chart types offered by Excel should NEVER be used! Our next example shows the graph-types available as pyramid charts. None of these choices shown below represent good graphs! All but the last one display false third dimensions. In addition they all suggest stacked displays that are known to be poor ways to make comparisons.

• An easy-to-use integrated development environment (IDE)
• A suite of .NET interoperable object-oriented programming languages, including C#
