  • Web 2.0 Handouts
  • During the 25 years that I have delivered professional development activities for educators, I have always tried to model the technologies and techniques that I was teaching. In recent years, the efforts have had less to do with specific technologies, software products, services, and much more to do with philosophies where learning happens as part of continuing and multi-dimensional conversations among learners and teachers, and others on the Net. This is what the emerging new web, web 2.0 has done to my vision of education. I have long abandoned the print handout, using it only under those conditions where they are expressly requested by the people who pay me for my services. Otherwise, I point to my web site at the beginning of the presentation demonstrating links to web pages that provide a variety of digital resources for the topic at hand. Until recently, these have been static html documents or pages that were derived from content management systems. The first time that I installed a wiki engine on my web server and produced a web page that could be edited by any visitor to that page, I saw this as the perfect vehicle for providing access to digital content for my workshop participants within the context of education as conversation philosophy mentioned above. Fairly early in the evolution of my wiki handouts, I selected MediaWiki (http://mediawiki.org/) as the engine for my online handouts. Its robustness, richness, availability of various extensions that have been developed by an open-source community of programmers, and security
  • Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - Games Cheats Hints & Trainer PC Guide
  • The name “Vice City” is a double entendre: on one hand, it is a direct reference to Michael Mann’s 1980’s police television series Miami Vice, but it also conveys the actual definition of the word, labeling Vice City a place of sin, greed and overindulgence; making it literally, a city of vice, hence the name of the game. • SEO Myths Dispelled: Flash Video
  • By now, everyone has visited a website that utilizes Flash multimedia within its design. Since 1996, the use of Flash has grown in popularity thanks to its ability to add animation and interactivity to websites. More recently, Flash has become an essential component in the prolific distribution of intrusive "pop-ups," or web-based advertisements. Flash also grants designers the ability to integrate video into web pages, and this has led many within the Web 2.0 space to use Flash to develop rich Internet applications. Many companies, including my own, Denver interactive agency Fusionbox, offer streaming Flash Video Solutions to clients in need of online video. While the inclusion of Flash into websites no doubt enriches the user experience rendering it that much "flashier," search engine optimizers (SEOs) have long been wary of the use of Flash due to the fact that it's supposedly unindexable by the search engines. Key word here: supposedly. As we all know, the search engine game changes daily. If it stayed the same, it wouldn't be called a game. The inherent beauty of it is that no one knows everything. Instead, we're all just players who know something, and we're all moving forward as we try to learn more, keeping up with developments happening in our space. One such development is the evolution of Flash and the impact it has had on the science of search. Back in the day, Flash files were not indexable by search engines because the content was hidden from the spider's digital “eyes.” The implications
  • Hack Proofing Your Wireless Network PDF
  • When the concept of a network without wires was first suggested more than two decades ago, it sparked the imagination of scientists, product vendors, and users around the globe eager for the convenience and flexibility of a free roaming conection. Unfortunately, as the variety of wireless solutions began to emerge, anticipation turned to disappointment. The first wave of solutions proved inadequate for the networking, portability, and security needs of a changing IT environment. While this has largely continued to be the case throughout the 1990s with most cell-based and office local area network (LAN)-based wireless technology deployments, great strides have been made specifically over the last two years to address the fundamental concerns impeding the full acceptance of wireless net- working in the mainstream of corporate IT departments and the small office. In this chapter, you will learn about the technology that is available today for wireless data networking and what tomorrow’s wireless technologies have to offer. We will cover office LAN wireless solutions including 802.11, its subgroups (802.11b, 802.11a, 802.11g) and HomeRF, cellular-based wireless data solutions including the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) and i-Mode and the network infrastructures supporting them (in particular 2G, 2.5G, and 3G), and finally, 802.15 Personal Area Network (PAN) solutions such as Bluetooth. In addition, we will review some of the new standards being developed to create wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs) and other wireless data transmission solu- tions that are being proposed for commercial application. Be aware that we have several other documents on using Excel, including A Beginners' Guide, An Intermediate Guide, plus a host of advanced topics. Starting Microsoft Excel and Opening Files Launching Excel via the Start menu and All Programs isn't the most efficient way of doing things; it's much easier to do so from an icon on the Desktop: 1. Open the Windows Start menu and choose All Programs then Microsoft Office 2. Instead of clicking on Microsoft Office Excel 2003, hold the right mouse button down and drag Excel from the Microsoft Office menu onto the Desktop - choose Copy Here 3. Now (and in future) double click on the Microsoft Excel icon to launch the software You can also place shortcuts to files you are currently working on the Desktop in a similar way - this time (when you drag the file icons from My Documents using the right mouse button) choose Create Shortcuts Here from the pop-up menu. When you have finished working on a file then you can the shortcut (leaving the file itself safe in My Documents). Another feature which makes opening a file easier is to alter the number of documents which feature in the list of recently used files (the list which appears at the foot of the File menu):.. • 3d modelling for Virtual Reality Tutorial #2 – VRML sliding door
  • This tutorial will guide you through one way of setting up an animated sliding door in a vrml world using 3ds max. You will be provided with a prepared AutoCAD (3rooms.dwg) model of three rooms, comprising walls, ceiling, floor and a door, as shown above. You will import the AutoCAD model to 3ds max. You will apply lights, materials, cameras, and a navigation helper as previously done in the Tutorial #1 – VRML room of primitives! tutorial. You will animate the door to make it slide, and then create a ‘touch sensor’ helper to control the door opening. Finally you export as a virtual reality model in the form of a VRML file. You will view and interact with the VRML file (world, *.wrl) using a web browser. When completed you will be able to freely navigate around and view the internal spaces and click on the door to open it. Download 3d modelling for Virtual Reality Tutorial #2 – VRML sliding door
