September, 2006 Page 1 APPLICATIONS NOTE AN602: DHX Technology Overview John Beekley, VP Applicatio Engineering, Coair Memory, Inc. Introduction For several yea, heat spreade have been included on enthusiast memory modules to aid in heat dissipation. Dual-path Heat Exchange (DHX™) technology represents a strong effort by Coair's enginee to devise an optimized thermal solution based on sound technical principles. This paper will provide a description of this technology and show some test results illustrating the superior performance that can be gained through the use of this technology. Background Typical desktop compute use memory modules without any heat spreade, heat sinks, or dedicated airflow. However, for yea, enthusiast modules have been fitted with heat spreade for improved thermal characteristics as well as aesthetics. As system speeds have increased, the need for memory cooling has become more apparent. Let's take a look at why this is the case. How Heat is Generated All integrated Download PDF
  • Informed Spatial Decision Making Using Coordinated Views
  • Decision making is one of people’s usual activities since situations that require making decisions constantly arise in their everyday life. Very often, however, the dimensionality and complexity of decision problems reach far beyond human’s capabilities while the cost of a poor decision may be rather high. Therefore, there is a need in software support to the decision making process, and, in response, a wide variety of software tools, from tools for building graphs and charts to expert systems and intelligent agents, are offered as decision support systems. The reason for this variety is the compound, multi-faceted nature of the decision making process. The most widely accepted generalisation of the decision-making process was introduced by Simon [25], who divided the process into three major phases: intelligence, design, and choice. The intelligence phase involves data collection, integration, pre-processing, and exploration with the aim to identify the problems or opportunities. During the design phase, one looks for a set of possible solutions to the problem(s) identified in the intelligence phase and analyses the options thus found. During the choice phase, the options are evaluated and analysed in relation to others, and a particular option or a set of options is selected. Typically, a decision-maker must account for multiple, often conflicting, evaluation criteria, and the final decision results from an explicit or implicit trade-off. At any point in the decision-making process, it may be necessary to loop back to an earlier phase. Malczewski [20] mentions the software tools that can support the decision process at the

  • Forensic Analysis of Microsoft Internet Explorer Cookie Files
  • Since HTTP is a stateless protocol, websites must place information on a user’s computer if it needs to save information about a web session. For instance, when a user selects a widget and adds it to his shopping cart, that information can be saved on the client computer rather than the web server. The facility to save information in this manner is known as Cookies. A cookie is a small file containing data that the web server places on a user’s computer so it may request back at a later date. During forensic analysis it is often relevant to parse the information in Internet Explorer’s cookie files into a human readable format. Cookies aid forensic analysts during the investigation by providing insight to a suspect’s internet activity. After analysis of several example cookie files it was found that the format is relatively simple to understand. This paper will document the format of Internet Explorer’s (IE) cookie files for forensic analysis purposes and provide an open source tool to parse the information into a human readable format. • Maya Tutorial Advanced Dynamics: nCloth & Hair - Animating Mitosis
  • This tutorial is designed to introduce several approaches to animating various cellular process using advanced dynamic systems such as nCloth and Hair. Maya dynamics are powerful but take some time and practice to master. This is mostly because their implementation in Maya is less than intuitive. To understand why the various dynamic systems are set up the way they are you have to understand that historically, as each version of Maya has been introduced, additions have been made to the dynamics. Particles and rigid body dynamics have only changed a little since Maya version 4. Maya 8 introduced the nucleus dynamic system which is used for nCloth and is rumored to replace the current particle system in upcoming versions of the software. Nucleus is a more advanced particle system that, unlike the standard Maya particle dynamics, has a built-in system for calculating particle interactions (the nucleus solver), which is like a much more advanced and accurate version of Maya particle springs. Currently the Hair solver is self-contained and not attached to nucleus however it is very similar to the nucleus nCloth system. Maya Hair was introduced before nCloth. nCloth and hair are extremely powerful and surprisingly easy to use depending on the requirements of the scene. You can create some interesting dynamic movements to the objects in your scene without the need for complex expressions and connections. nCloth and hair systems can also interact with Maya particles and fluids as well, layering such dynamic simulations is sometimes required to create the very specific
  • How Web 2.0 can leverage Model Engineering in Practice
  • With the rise of model-driven development, model repositories are intended to facilitate research in model engineering and consequently in domain-specific modeling. Model repositories are central places where all kinds of modeling artifacts (e.g., meta-metamodels, metamodels, models, and possibly transformation models) are stored and coordinated. They can serve as a platform for making available the specification of metamodels to others (typically necessary for domain-specific modeling languages) and for exchanging models, as well as a resource for teaching/learning materials. There have been started some intiatives for building model repositories, e.g., zoomm.org, www.kermeta.org/mrep, or the Atlas MegaModel Management (AM3) [1]. The latter one is hosted within the popular Eclipse environment and is a subproject of the Generative Modeling Technologies (GMT) project. The artifacts present in this model repository, furthermore, are organized into sets of models of similar nature called zoos, e.g. a zoo for metamodels and a zoo for transformations [4]. The AM3 zoos are continuously growing and provide a respectable source of information in the meantime. However, a more popular way of storing and organizing modeling artifacts is probably having a CVS like server software at hand. These repositories provide all means necessary to handle different versions of textual artifacts and let them compare syntactically. It seams therefore obvious to use existing tools also to store models as they can be serialized into the XMI format. Although versioning of models remains an open and challenging research field [11, 12], basic support for versioning models can be provided by CVS. CVS repositories can also be
