  • Securing Web 2.0 for K-12 & Higher Education
  • Why Educators May Be Tempted to Say No to Web 2.0 In the face of the rapid changes on the Internet and the increased risks they bring, many schools, especially in the K-12 grades, have taken polar approaches to managing Web 2.0 within their schools. Some have opened the doors to these new opportunities, believing that their students and faculty should embrace these innovative applications in an effort to expand learning through online collaboration and sharing, while others have been quick to shut the door due to the potential costs and risks they may pose to younger students. In K-12 grades, the consensus seems to be to block these sites in order to protect students and their privacy from child predators and the potentially objectionable content that these real-time, dynamic sites may host. Universities and research organizations appear more open to embracing Web 2.0 technology in hopes of providing an academic environment that fosters learning through collaboration. But in so doing, they are encountering challenges. For example, universities have to balance the ability to provide open access with the need to control rising bandwidth costs and ensure network performance. While bandwidth has become less expensive in most parts of the world, new rich content, video, streaming media, and large downloads can quickly bog down even the most robust university networks. In addition, due to growing compliance concerns, higher education is challenged to provide the right level of security against the very real threats of data loss for students, employees, and even student

They are intended to be used by the experienced technician, one who only needs a brief reminder of the set-up sequence. • Descriptive text—The descriptive text explains in detail what is to be done during that step. This explanation is intended as a guide for the technician needing additional information. • Photographs/Line art—The photographs or line art support both the sub-headings and the detailed text. • HR and Search Engine Optimization
  • The purpose of this whitepaper is to help you improve your career section. Having analyzed thousands of company websites and all of their career sections, we have found certain trends that set the successful career sections apart from the rest – simple features and functions that all companies can implement without losing their brand integrity. When your career section is set up well, it reduces your administrative duties, helps maintain your recruitment message and delivers jobseekers. Here is what you can expect to learn from this whitepaper: - Why your jobs may not be on search engines and how to get them included - The hurdles jobseekers face in finding your jobs and how to remove those hurdles - What terms people are using and which ones are worth remembering - The worst ways to present your jobs and what you should be doing The best thing to always remember about improving the traffic to your career section is to make everything blatantly obvious. The fewer clicks it takes to get to your jobs, the faster jobseekers and search engines will find it. And the most obvious spot to put it is on your home page! Jobseekers get frustrated when they have to guess its location, and search engines sometimes just give up. Some companies include it in their “About Us” section, others put the link in “Contact Us”, and for whatever reason some sites only list it in their sitemap. Granted, ideal candidates have the dedication to find the section, but there is no need
  • A Memory Model Sensitive Checker for C#
  • Modern mainstream programming languages like Java and C# support multi- threading as an essential feature of the language. In these languages multiple threads can access shared objects. Moreover, synchronization mechanisms exist for controlling access to shared objects by threads. If every access to a shared object by any thread requires prior acquisition of a common lock, then the program is guaranteed to be “properly synchronized”. On the other hand, if there are two accesses to a shared object/variable v by two different threads, at least one of them is a write, and they are not ordered by synchronization — the program is then said to contain a data race, that is, the program is improperly synchronized. Improperly synchronized programs are common for more than one reason — (a) programmers may want to avoid synchronization overheads for low-level program fragments which are executed frequently, (b) programmers may forget to add certain synchronization operations in the program, or (c) programmers forget to maintain a common lock guarding accesses to some shared variable v since there are often many lock variables in a real-life program. Problem Statement The work in this paper deals with formal verification (and subsequent debugging) of multi-threaded C# programs which are improperly synchronized. As a simple example consider the following schematic program fragment, and suppose initially x = y = 0. Moreover l1, l2 are thread-local variables while x, y are shared variables. x = 1; y = 1; l1 = y; l2 = x; If this program is executed on a uni-processor platform, we

  • MySQLHA Hacking Guide Manual
  • As you may have read on the project’s web site, the goal of MySQLHA is oprovide a freely available and community supported clustering tool kit based on MySQL, and focused on service availability. We’ll dissect that sentence to reveal that it’s not just a quick marketing trick, but a real mission statement. Freely available. This is easy to see, since the code is GPL, plus, it’s mostly shell and perl scripts, which is inherently open source. Community supported. This is very important now that the project is sponsored by an IT company. What it means is that it’s not that useful to have a freely available clustering solution if it’s not properly documented and easy to use. We’re working on the easy to use part, by focusing our current development efforts on a better installer. As for the other part, this document is the first on a set of tools we’re developing, along with the code, in order to allow people to make the best of the code with no need for commercial support. Of course, Seriema Systems will provide consulting services based on the cluster, and also support plans; but the project should (and will) have enough
