  • Compositing Reflections Tutorial
  • This tutorial allows for flexibility and extra control for compositing. I suggest compositing in After Effects rather than Photoshop, even though we're only working on one frame. After Effects has better layering options and it is much quicker to adjust things (Photoshop brightness adjustments are "permanent" unless you make an effect mask...too tedious!!!) Part I: Maya Setup camera, lights, and object Render object passes Render reflection passes Render occlusion pass Part II: After Effects Bringing in all the layers and setting blending modes Adding hue/saturation effects and adjusting opacities to "match the numbers" Render out the final frame Download

  • jEdit 4.2 User's Guide
  • Exactly how jEdit is started depends on the operating system. For example, on Unix you can run “jedit” at the command line, or select jEdit from a menu; on Windows, you can double-click on the jEdit icon or select it from the Start menu. If jEdit is started while another copy is already running, control is transferred to the running copy, and a second instance is not loaded. This saves time and memory if jEdit is started multiple times. Communication between instances of jEdit is implemented using TCP/IP sockets; the initial instance is known as the server, and subsequent invocations are clients. If you find yourself launching and exiting jEdit a lot, the startup time can get a bit bothersome. If the -background command line switch is specified, jEdit will continue running and waiting for client requests even after all editor windows are closed. When run in background mode, you can open and close jEdit any number of times, only having to wait for it to start the first time. The downside of this is increased memory usage. When running on MacOS X, the -background command-line switch is active by default, so that jEdit conforms to the platform convention that programs should stay open until the Quit command is explicitly invoked by the user, even if all windows are closed. To disable background mode on MacOS X, use the -nobackground switch. For more information about command line switches that control the server feature, see the section called “Command Line Usage”. jEdit remembers open buffers, views
  • Binding xamDataGrid in Expression Blend and Visual Studio
  • Microsoft Expression Blend is an application that generates XAML (Extensible Application Markup Language) via a user interface. Blend is designed to create all of the WPF UI (User Interface) elements such as windows, buttons, grid, and brushes on a designer surface. Blend will then emit all the necessary XAML code. Blend is a designer tool, so you still use Visual Studio 2005 to write the application code. (Note: If you have the next version of Visual Studio, codenamed “Orcas,” installed, you don’t need to install the Visual Studio Extensions for WPF or the .NET Framework 3.) Using the xamDataGrid in Blend 1. Launch Visual Studio 2005. 2. Start a New Project. 3. Select NET Framework 3.0 Windows Application (WPF) (VB or C#) as in Figure 1. 4. Add a reference to Infragistics WPF controls and supporting API as in Figure 2. 5. Build the Solution and Save all. As yet the Infragistics controls are not available in the toolbox to drag onto the design surface. We will achieve this by using Microsoft’s Expression Blend. 6. Start Blend and open the project just created. Note that Blend can read Visual Studio Solution files. Browse to where you saved the solution file and open it. You should see your solution displayed similar to Figure 3 in Blend. To access the Infragistics controls click on the button marked in red, the controls are in the Asset Library.
