  • Web 2.0 Security and Privacy
  • Web 2.0 – user-generated content, rich user interfaces and co-operative, dynamic services – has also brought with it a new and extremely virulent breed of ‘Malware 2.0’. A key motivation for this study is the link between Web 2.0 and the increase in ‘drive-by’ malware infections requiring no intervention or awareness on the part of the user. To give some idea of the threat posed, a Scansafe report analysing malware trends reports that risks from compromised websites increased 407% in the year to May 2008. One of the most important sources of vulnerabilities in Web 2.0 is the inadequacy of access and authorisation frameworks used in Web 2.0 environments. In particular, this report highlights problems in policy frameworks governing the separation of control between web applications. These centre on the ‘same-origin’ policy, which sandboxes web applications coming from different domains, and the cases where this policy is either deliberately relaxed or circumvented for malicious purposes. Problems in access and authorisation frameworks often stem from the difficulty in finding a balance between allowing enough freedom for Web 2.0 applications to function and providing adequate security. Web 2.0 has also brought a sea-change in the way knowledge and information is managed. One page contains content and even executable code from multiple sources including end-users, and information may be syndicated (eg, using RSS) and altered many times from its original source. This means in particular that: • The increased opportunities for contributing content also provide more opportunities to inject malicious code leading to many vulnerabilities in the

  • Plotting Data with Microsoft Excel
  • Here is an example of an attempt to plot parametric data in a scientifically meaningful way, using Microsoft Excel. This example describes an experience using the Office X version for Macintosh. The details may change with different versions, but the principle stays the same – the author must control the appearance of all aspects of the figure. We cannot count on programmers to have correctly guessed our intended use of the application. If you find that it is just too awkward to prepare a proper figure using a computer program, then do it by hand. If you use a hand drawn graph do keep in mind its purpose. If it is to be a working document, not to be presented or published, then you may want to make it as large as you can, ignoring margins, for maximum accuracy. For a paper or presentation, just keep the figure well within the margins of your sheet of graph paper, since the purpose is to illustrate the result, not to use the graph as a working document. You don't need to fill up all available space. If you submit a manuscript for publication or conduct a formal presentation, then you will probably have to prepare a computer generated figure. PROGRAM DEFAULT Table 1 represents measurements of heights of tree seedlings as they were allowed to grow. If you haven't much experience plotting with Excel you might want to open a new spreadsheet, enter the data, and follow along with the example. The data were
  • Mobile Messaging Gateway HTTP API Connectivity Guide Version 2.0
  • The APIs defined in this document are for the external application to make use of services provided by the COMMZGATE Messaging Gateway Service. To make use of the service, you require an account from COMMZGATE as well as the IP address of the gateway on the Internet. Please contact your account manager if you do not have the above. HTTP Methods: The POST method may be used for the APIs unless explicitly stated otherwise. There are two categories of APIs: 1. MT (Mobile Terminate) APIs involve sending messages from the MMG to Mobile Device. The APIs are: 1) Send Message 2) Check Balance (Tokens are deducted upon each successful MT request) 2. MO (Mobile Originate) APIs involve receiving messages from the Mobile Device to MMG. There is currently only one API: 1) Receive Message For MT and Application APIs, http POST is initiated by the External Application and directed to the MMG. For MO APIs, http POST is initiated by the MMG and directed to the External Application. This document defines the APIs, their parameters, and return values. Note that parameter names are case sensitive. Also, none of the parameter values that are passed in should contain the pipe “|” character. The standard HTTP encoding rules must be used when passing text as parameters. Download pdf Mobile Messaging Gateway HTTP API Connectivity Guide Version 2.0
  • Lockr: Social Access Control for Web 2.0
  • Sharing personal content online is surprisingly hard despite the recent emergence of a huge number of content sharing systems and sites. These systems suffer from several drawbacks: they each have a different way of providing access control which cannot be used with other systems; moving to a new system is a lengthy process and requires registration and invitation of all one’s friends to the new system; and the rules for access control are complicated and become more so as our networks of online friends grow. In this paper, we present Lockr–an access control scheme based on social relationships that makes sharing personal content easy. Lockr separates social networking information from the content sharing mechanisms, thereby eliminating the need for users to maintain many site-specific copies of their social networks. We describe Lockr’s design, security properties, and limitations. We also present how we integrated Lockr with two popular systems for sharing content online – BitTorrent and Flickr. Today, sharing personal content is surprisingly difficult. Current systems suffer from a number of drawbacks. They are cumbersome to use, they impose artificial limits on the size of shared content (e.g., pictures and video), and they make it difficult to restrict content only to a specific set of users. For those Web sites that do provide access control, they typically require all the participants to be registered with the site in question. This imposes the burden that users must register with many sites, and maintain separate and potentially inconsistent copies of their social networks for each
  • EXPERT RIGGING IN MAYA
  • Tentacled appendages have been around as long as weird creatures in movies and comic books have existed. But creating the proper movement, and getting the right look, is deceptively difficult. Mechanical tentacles such as the sentinels from the Matrix series, or like Doc Ock’s in Spider-Man 2, are particularly challenging. This tutorial walks you through setting up a character with tentacles, and should give you a good idea of the general approach to take. Part of working in CG is the ability to push the limits of reality – mechanised parts can be exaggerated to stretch and reach further than possible, or be squashed like a slinky – if set up properly, they can do anything you like. Michael Ingrassia, from Escape Studios in London, has provided us with a cartoony character with tentacles to rig and animate. I’m assuming you’re already familiar enough with Maya that you can rig a complete character without a problem, so we’ll be focusing on the tentacles and claws – how they attach to the body, and how all the parts work together to help bring the character to life. The character rig is very basic, so if you’re trying to do anything fancy, you’ll probably need to add more to it. We’ll walk through a spline IK-type setup in Maya. Maya has a very intuitive and powerful IK solver and its spline abilities function well when set up properly. There are no FK controls for the tentacles, although I would usually provide that to the
  • SSH Secure File Transfer for Windows - Student Organizations Server Tutorial
  • This tutorial demonstrates how to use the SSH Secure File Transfer client for Windows to copy files from a local computer to the Student Organizations Server. The example uses http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/clubs_example/, as the Web address for an example organization at University Park. Organizations that use http://www.greeks.psu.edu/ in their Web address have “up” as their campus code. A fraternity with a Web address of http://www.greeks.psu.edu/ifc/aaa/ has the directory path /clubs/up/aaa. The councils also have this distinction, (for example, IFC has the directory path /clubs/up/ifc/). 1. First you must install the Secure FTP client for Windows if you haven’t already done so. You can download the client (part of the SSH Secure Shell program).. Download SSH Secure File Transfer for Windows - Student Organizations Server Tutorial
