  • Creating a Paperspace Template
  • Since my first days with DesignCad, a paperspace template was not available until I created one and imported the file into my existing drawing file, filling in the necessary details into the titleblock before printing. Frankly, it was a pain until DesignCad came out with paperspace templates. To the new user, the existing templates are quite and more than suitable and may indeed be suitable for some experienced users and customers alike, but from time to time or as is required, an up to date template is required to: 1. look professional, 2. convey the information required by a given standard i.e. local council or Patents Office. 3. Your drawing standards and template requirements have changed. My own business has a drawing template log, where any changes to templates are noted and dated. Why? For quality reasons and if my company is audited, I can show the auditor the trail of changes, if asked. To the new user, creating templates can be a daunting task, even to a reasonably experienced user, so with this tutorial, I will endeavour to guide you through the task. Paperspace templates are all based on a standard, being ISO, DIN, JIS, ANSI to name but some. Most, if not all are based on the ISO Standard. Download pdf Creating a Paperspace Template
  • Migrating from Microsoft Access to the MySQL database
  • Businesses that use Microsoft Access eventually begin to struggle against its limitations. Now they have an alternative: Move data repositories to a system that provides better performance and reliability and that is more flexible in how it allows information to be used. NuSphere has the technology you need to follow this course, Gemini the table type for the MySQL database. Together, Gemini and the MySQL database provide a business strength database server that runs under Windows, Linux, or Unix. Gemini provides performance and reliability enhancements such as row-level locking, transaction support, and automatic crash recovery. By using the MySQL database as a data management platform, you can continue to manipulate your data through Access as a front end if you wish. But you can also exploit your data in other ways, for example, by using MySQL to help you establish or strengthen your web presence. To do this, deploy a web server that handles requests from people who visit your site, and tie it to the MySQL database using a web programming language. NuSphere Pro Advantage provides all the necessary tools in a single easy to install product. In addition to the Gemini table, it includes the Apache web server and the Perl and PHP programming languages. Perl and PHP both are extremely popular for web programming, and both interface easily with the MySQL database. Included with NuSphere Pro Advantage is NuSphere® PHPEd™, NuSphere's Integrated Development Environment for PHP-based web applications. The PHPEd IDE is a tool that speeds development time of
  • The 1994-2000 F650Log.pdf
  • I took what I felt was all of the good information from the maintenance section of the BMW F650 service manual and put it in what was intended to be … This isn’t “John Muir Does the F650.” Anyone who doesn’t know what feeler gages are, much less how to use them or who doesn’t own an F650 service manual will find this document to be of little help. No one-page tutorial exists on how to maintain a motorcycle. This is a just maintenance log sheet. The intent was to make a fast and simple document to facilitate servicing your bike, making available the important numbers to preclude digging through manuals with dirty paws. After reviewing the factory manual and maintenance procedures, I felt that something was missing. What was missing was the easy-reference checklist that used to come with BMW motorcycles. Furthermore, the factory manual makes no reference whatsoever to lubricating the steering head, swing-arm or wheel bearings. Previous models performed this during the “inspection” and just checked these items during the “service.” The factory manual makes it difficult to find necessary specifications, like the spark plug number for instance. The factory manual doesn’t tell you some things which it should like the Download 1994-2000 BMW F650 Manual

  • An Open Source Portal for Educators
  • There are hundreds of open source projects ranging from simple email software to publicly dedicated WWW servers and full operating systems. This article describes an online platform for educators with free open source educational systems including wikis, blogs, bulletin boards, Content/Course Management Systems, and MOOs, all open systems which are easily installed and managed. By setting up a content-based server, educators can save and archive their files online easily, and integrate their online resources without needing web design skill. With full control of these different educational tools, educators can form a collaborative learning community based on their teaching goals. Thus teachers and students can build an online community as partners. They can learn from and with others, share and try out web learning tools, distribute leadership and inspiration, and support and interact with others from all over the world. Although you might not know much about modern engines, would you buy a car with the hood welded shut? Yet most computer users rely on software whose code is not accessible to them. Meanwhile, there are hundreds of open source projects ranging from simple email software to WWW servers (e.g., Apache) and full operating systems (Linux) already available. There are many good reasons to use open source systems: 1. Free: no payment, no advertisements 2. Full control: You can edit the settings and options according to your needs 3. Customization and Extensibility: If you know its computer language, you can edit the code to fit your own use 4. Friendly online support group 5. A variety of educational
  • AutoCAD 2000 in 3D - A Monkish Shot Tower
  • This tutorial introduces the concepts and techniques used to build 3D models in AutoCAD 2000. As a vehicle for learning these techniques, we develop a model of a whimsical structure that I have called the Monkish Shot Tower after a group of imaginary Monks who have refined the technology of manufacturing lead shot for firearms, and the like. The tower is designed around the perfect number 7, features an external spiral stair, an elaborate canopy on top, and a hole down the centre. The final structure is illustrated in Figure 1 below. This tutorial will introduce the following concepts and techniques: • simple solid modelling with solid primitives & CSG operations (the tower); • construction of complex solid objects (stair and landing); • user coordinate systems and positioning of objects (external stairs); • advanced use of the CSG operations (tapering the stairs); • simple surface modelling (the roof canopy and handrails); • surface modelling versus solid modelling (the handrails); • meshed surfaces (the landing “sails” for shading). As with every drawing that you produce with AutoCAD you should begin by establishing your drawing area by setting the Drawing Limits, Units and using Zoom All to expand out to a full view of your drawing area. Do that now, setting the limits to 20000 x 15000. For this model, we will make use of several different layers for handling different parts of the model. Begin by calling up the Layer Control dialogue box (see button at left) and create two new layers called “Construction” and “Tower”, setting each to a different
  • Network Coding for Large Scale Content Distribution
  • Typical content distribution solutions are based on placing dedicated equipment inside or at the edge of the Internet. The best example of such solutions is Akamai [1], which runs several tens of thousands of servers all over the world. In recent years, a new paradigm for Content Distribution has emerged based on a fully distributed architecture where commodity PCs are used to form a cooperative network and share their resources (storage, CPU, bandwidth). Cooperative content distribution solutions are inherently self scalable, in that the bandwidth capacity of the system increases as more nodes arrive: each new node requests service from, and, at the same time, provides service to other nodes. Because each new node contributes resources, the capacity of the system grows as the demand increases, resulting in limitless system scalability. With cooperation, the source of the file, i.e. the server, does not need to increase its resources to accommodate the larger user population; this, also, provides resilience This work was done while the first author was with Microsoft research. to “flash crowds”— a huge and sudden surge of traffic that usually leads to the collapse of the affected server. Therefore, end-system cooperative solutions can be used to efficiently and quickly deliver software updates, critical patches, videos, and other large files to a very large number of users while keeping the cost at the original server low. The best example of an end-system cooperative architecture is the BitTorrent system, which became extremely popular as a way of delivering the Linux distributions and other

  • Tutorial: Easy Beads in Paint Shop Pro
  • I’m using Paint Shop Pro 8, but I know this feature is still in later versions. Ever tried Balls and Bubbles? They’re fun! Here are the easiest beads (or round candies if you’re so inclined) I know how to make. Start by opening a new raster image of 100 pixels. At 200 dpi this is going to make you a half -inch bead, scale-able as are all your picture tubes. Now go to Effects, Artistic Effects, Balls and Bubbles: When the options box opens, choose the “Gold Ball” preset, and select Single Ball and Maximum possible size. If you haven’t ever explored the Balls and Bubbles feature you’ll want to come back later and play with all the various presets and make some of your own. Now, you can keep the color or colorize the bead as you wish. I’ll show you how to save as a single tube and also a multiple tube set, so while you’re playing with the colors make about six different ones. Download Tutorial: Easy Beads in Paint Shop Pro
