  • Accessibility of Emerging Rich Web Technologies: Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web
  • Web 2.0 is a new approach to Web content, making it more interactive and allowing sites to combine features in new ways. This change in paradigm brings new challenges to people with disabilities. Accessibility advocates must develop solutions rapidly. Semantic Web technologies address some of these requirements, and accessibility innovation may be part of A convergence of the Web 2.0 and Semantic Web. The term “Web 2.0” describes new characteristics of the Web. New types of services are made possible by the ability of sites to share or aggregate data, and for users to be part of the authoring process. For users, it is often characterized by much greater interactivity, with users able to influence what is presented to them. Often the content changes or updates frequently, such as in games, flight trackers, stock tickers, etc. In many ways there is a more desktop-like experience, in which Web applications converge with the features of ordinary applications. This is an emergent aspect of the combination of existing technologies supported by the open nature of the architecture of the Web. Although Web 2.0 applications behave increasingly like desktop applications, they continue to use Web technologies for content transmission, encoding, and presentation. These technologies are used or combined in novel ways that lack the accessibility features that have been built over years into their platform-specific counterparts and are just becoming effectively mainstream in “Web 1.0” content. Web 2.0 thus presents significant risks to accessibility. Because Web 2.0 is an emergent phenomenon rather than a specific technology or
  • An Introduction to Programming with C# Threads
  • This paper provides an introduction to writing concurrent programs with “threads”. A threads facility allows you to write programs with multiple simultaneous points of execution, synchronizing through shared memory. The paper describes the basic thread and synchronization primitives, then for each primitive provides a tutorial on how to use it. The tutorial sections provide advice on the best ways to use the primitives, give warnings about what can go wrong and offer hints about how to avoid these pitfalls. The paper is aimed at experienced programmers who want to acquire practical expertise in writing concurrent programs. The programming language used is C#, but most of the tutorial applies equally well to other languages with thread support, such as Java. Almost every modern operating system or programming environment provides support for concurrent programming. The most popular mechanism for this is some provision for allowing multiple lightweight “threads” within a single address space, used from within a single program. Programming with threads introduces new difficulties even for experienced programmers. Concurrent programming has techniques and pitfalls that do not occur in sequential programming. Many of the techniques are obvious, but some are obvious only with hindsight. Some of the pitfalls

Use the window in the upper left to navigate to your “rough images” folder. You should now see your rough images in the Browser. Step 2 – Selecting a Photo to Edit To edit a photo, double click on it. A new window will open. This is the Photoshop Elements Editor workspace. Many of the tools you’ll be using are on the far left, in a vertical strip called the Tool Palette. You can find out each tool’s name/function by hovering over the tool with your mouse. Step 3 - Cropping This is what a typical image might look like if you scanned a bunch of pictures at once. • A LATEX survival guide for Unix systems
  • This document is designed to provide new users of LAEX with a reference for the local features not documented in the manual (The LATEX Book, Lesley Lamport, Addison Wesley 1987); it takes the place of the Local Guide referred to in the book. For a general introduction to LATEX, you are referred to the companion manual Essential LATEX ++, mostly by Jon Warbrick. For a general introduction to the concepts of the TEX software distribution, see Joachim Schrod’s Components of TEX. Readers of this document will normally be staff or students who have either taught themselves LATEX, or are being taught it as part of a course. Completely new users should read Essential LATEX ++ £rst, to familiarize themselves with basic concepts. Most of this manual is for reference purposes, so do not read it as a tutorial text! LATEX runs on a variety of computers at many different sites. This document tells you how to use LATEX on Unix computers. It is not about LATEX itself, which is described by the manual—LATEX: A Document Preparation System, published by Addison-Wesley, available at the book shop. If you have a question that you can’t answer by reading the manual and this document, ask the local support team. Download pdf A LATEX survival guide for Unix systems

Zani Observatory, to help minor planet observers in their researches. MPS runs under DOS and it works good also with Windows 95/98 operating systems. MPS contains some executable programs and system files, each routine is a single executable program. Orbital elements database consists of two files: ASTEROID.ELE and ASTEROID.IDX. They should be upgraded anytime using MPCORB.DAT or MPCORBCR.DAT from the Minor Planet Centre. MPS is freely-available on the World Wide Web at the following URL: http://www.uai.it/sez_ast/ You can distribute it freely but the following acknowledgement is welcome if you use this software in any publication:Foglia S., Minor Planet Software rel. 8, 2003, http://www.uai.it/sez_ast/ All programs are written using C language.
