  • Maya Crash Course
  • This very brief tutorial is intended to familiarise the user with the basic layout of animation tools in Maya. It assumes that the reader will consult help files to find out more about each tool. 1. Channel Editor 2. Layer Editor 3. Shelf 4. Toolbox 5. Timeline Okay, so Maya looks pretty daunting, especially if you go hunting through all the menus, but from an animation point of view it’s not that hard to use once you know where things are. Menus The drop-down box at the top left of the screen lets you choose which set of menus to display. Setting it to ‘animation’ will let you see everything needed for this tutorial. Navigation You can navigate your way round the viewport by using the following controls: To Rotate – hold the Alt key and drag with the left mouse button. To Zoom – use the mouse scroll wheel or hold Alt and drag with the right mouse button. To Pan – hold Alt and drag with the middle mouse button. To focus the camera on an object, hold Ctrl+Alt and drag a selection box around the object. Download pdf Maya Crash Course

  • From DOS/Windows to Linux HOWTO Tutorial
  • Let’s start politically correct. Throughout this document I say “Linux”, but I mean “GNU/Linux”. Please go to http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux?and?gnu.html to see why. You want to switch from the DOS/Windows world to Linux? Good idea: Linux is technically superior to DOS, Windows 9x and even Windows NT. But beware: it might not be useful for you. These are the main differences between DOS/Windows and Linux: • Windows runs Microsoft Office and lots of games; is perceived to be easy to install and configure; is notoriously unstable; performs poorly; crashes are frequent. • Linux runs StarOffice, scores of technical software and fewer games; can be tricky to install and configure; is rock solid; performs impeccably; crashes are extremely rare. It’s up to you to decide what you need. Furthermore, Linux gives you power, but it takes some time to learn how to harness it. Thus, if mostly need commercial sw, or if you don’t feel like learning new commands and concepts, you had better look elsewhere. Be aware that many newcomers give up because of initial difficulties. • BRL-CAD Tutorial Series: Volume IV – Converting Geometry Between BRL-CAD and Other Formats
  • The purpose of Volume IV is to discuss issues of compatibility and conversion between the BRL-CAD geometry file format and the formats of various other computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and computer-aided engineering (CAE) packages. Conversion is increasingly important for BRL-CAD users who must interact with a growing number of Government and commercial organizations involved in the research, development, testing, and evaluation of today’s combat systems. Note that this document addresses BRL-CAD geometry converters, not BRL-CAD image converters (e.g., pix-bw, pix-ps, pix-rle, bw-ps, and pl-ps). For further information on image conversion, see the man page on the utility of interest. Also, because of the many file formats in existence today and the rapidly changing nature of computer software and software companies, it would be impractical to try to address all of the conversion paths and methods that are currently or potentially possible. Many times, conversion from one file format to another is not a one to-one process. Depending on the amount of time and effort the BRL-CAD user is willing to invest, seemingly incompatible formats can Download BRL-CAD Tutorial Series: Volume IV – Converting Geometry Between BRL-CAD and Other Formats
  • ModSecurity Use Case: Web 2.0 Defense with Ajax Fingerprinting and Filtering
  • To combat these new threats one needs to look at different strategies as well. In this paper we shall look at different approaches and tools to improve security posture at both, the server as well as browser ends. Listed below are the key learning objectives: • The need for Ajax fingerprinting and content filtering. • The concept of Ajax fingerprinting and its implementation in the browser using XHR. • Processing Ajax fingerprints on the Web server. • Implementation using ModSecurity for Apache • Strengthening browser security using HTTP response content filtering of untrusted information directed at the browser in the form of RSS feeds or blogs. • Web application firewall (WAF) for content filtering and defense against Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Requirement for Ajax fingerprints and filtering Ajax is being used very liberally in next generation Web applications, forming an invisible layer in the browser’s transport stack and bringing to the fore numerous browser-related attacks, all centered around Ajax. Although Ajax applications hold a lot of promise, there are loopholes being exploited by viruses, worms and malicious attackers in Web 2.0 applications that need to be looked at a little more closely. Ajax hides a lot of server-side critical resources due to its calling mechanism, bringing in sloppiness in coding patterns and fueling vulnerabilities in the server-side application layer as well. Untrusted resource processing from blogs, feeds and mash-ups are making Ajax vulnerabilities relatively easy to exploit. In such situations Ajax request and response fingerprinting and filtering mechanisms can enhance the security posture of Web applications. Web 2.0 applications
