  • A Companion to Installing Yellow Dog Linux 4.1 Guide
  • Please note that this Companion to Install is an addendum to that which is presented on-screen during the installation process. It is not meant to be used as a stand-alone document.Instead,it is designed to provide extra guidance for those portions of the installation process that may otherwise be confusing. Drive Configurations You may install Yellow Dog Linux as a stand-alone operating system,or you may install both OSX and Yellow Dog Linux. You may have 1 or more drives independent of the number of operating systems installed. If you do have 2 or more drives,1 for YDL and the second drive for OSX,it is advised that the Yellow Dog Linux drive be placed first in the ATA,SCSI,or Firewire chain (at the time of this writing,USB drives are not supported as targets for the installer). To install OSX and Yellow Dog Linux on a single drive, you will require a minimum of two primary partitions.Unless your drive is already configured as such, you must either boot from the OSX CD,reformat, then reinstall OSX (using the Drive Setup application)or use a 3rd party,non-destructive partitioning tool prior to installing Linux. Be certain to back-up all important OSX applications and data before working with any partitioning tool or reformatting your drive. PREPARATION Single Drive,Multi-Boot System You are now going to use Apple’s Drive Setup application to format and partition your drive. Please note that this procedure completely reformats and DESTROYS ALL DATA on your drive. These instructions are for the partitioning of OSX.For Classic Mac OS partitioning, please download the YDL 2.3 Guide

  • Miniview IOGear G-CS12/14 2/4 KVM Port Switch Owners Manual Guide
  • IOGEAR’s KVM switches are first-rate connectivity accessories designed to help reduce the frustration of managing multiple computer systems. With the MiniView series by IOGEAR, you can access multiple computers from a single console (keyboard, mouse and monitor). The MiniView provides two convenient methods to access connected computers. Change ports easily via the push button selection switch located on the unit’s side panel, or by entering Hot Key combinations from the keyboard. Setup is fast and easy; plugging cables into their appropriate ports is all that is entailed. There is no software to configure, no installation routines and no incompatibility problems. Since the MiniView intercepts keyboard input directly, it works on any PS/2 compatible hardware platform and with all operating systems. There is no better way to save time and money than with a MiniView . By allowing a single console to manage the attached computers, the MiniView eliminates the expense of purchasing a separate keyboard, monitor and mouse for each PC. Additionally, these switches save all the extra space multiple consoles would take up, and eliminate the inconvenience and wasted effort involved in constantly having to move from one PC to the other. • Web 2.0 Handouts
  • During the 25 years that I have delivered professional development activities for educators, I have always tried to model the technologies and techniques that I was teaching. In recent years, the efforts have had less to do with specific technologies, software products, services, and much more to do with philosophies where learning happens as part of continuing and multi-dimensional conversations among learners and teachers, and others on the Net. This is what the emerging new web, web 2.0 has done to my vision of education. I have long abandoned the print handout, using it only under those conditions where they are expressly requested by the people who pay me for my services. Otherwise, I point to my web site at the beginning of the presentation demonstrating links to web pages that provide a variety of digital resources for the topic at hand. Until recently, these have been static html documents or pages that were derived from content management systems. The first time that I installed a wiki engine on my web server and produced a web page that could be edited by any visitor to that page, I saw this as the perfect vehicle for providing access to digital content for my workshop participants within the context of education as conversation philosophy mentioned above. Fairly early in the evolution of my wiki handouts, I selected MediaWiki (http://mediawiki.org/) as the engine for my online handouts. Its robustness, richness, availability of various extensions that have been developed by an open-source community of programmers, and security
  • A Low-cost Attack on a Microsoft CAPTCHA
  • CAPTCHA is now almost a standard security technology. The most widely used CAPTCHAs rely on the sophisticated distortion of text images rendering them unrecognisable to the state of the art of pattern recognition techniques, and these text-based schemes have found widespread applications in commercial websites. The state of the art of CAPTCHA design suggests that such text-based schemes should rely on segmentation resistance to provide security guarantee, as individual character recognition after segmentation can be solved with a high success rate by standard methods such as neural networks. In this paper, we analyse the security of a text-based CAPTCHA designed by Microsoft and deployed for years at many of their online services including Hotmail, MSN and Windows Live. This scheme was designed to be segmentation-resistant, and it has been well studied and tuned by its designers over the years. However, our simple attack has achieved a segmentation success rate of higher than 90% against this scheme. It took on average80 ms for the attack to completely segment a challenge on a desktop computer with a 1.86 GHz Intel Core 2 CPU and 2 GB RAM. As a result, we estimate that this Microsoft scheme can be broken with an overall (segmentation and then recognition) success rate of more than 60%. On the contrary, its design goal was that "automatic scripts should not be more successful than 1 in 10,000" attempts (i.e. a success rate of 0.01%). For the first time, we show that a CAPTCHA that is carefully designed to be

  • Introduction to CORBA
  • The Java Developer Connection SM (JDC) presents a Short Course introducing the Common Object Request Broker Architecture written by Java ™ Software licensee, the MageLang Institute. A leading provider of Java technology training, MageLang has contributed regularly to the JDC since 1996. The MageLang Institute, since its founding in 1995, has been dedicated to promoting the growth of the Java technology community by providing excellent education and acting as an independent resource. To find out more about MageLang’s Java technology training, visit the MageLang web site (http://www.magelang.com/jdc/) . The Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) from the Object Management Group (OMG) provides a platformindependent, language-independent architecture for writing distributed,object-oriented applications. CORBA objects can reside in the same process,on the same machine, down the hall,or across the planet. The Java language is an excellent language for writing CORBA programs. Some of the features that account for this popularity include the clear mapping from OMGIDL to the Java programming language, and the Java runtime environment’s built-in garbage collection. This introductory course will give you an overall view of how CORBA works, how to write CORBA applications in the Java programming language, and illustrates Sun’s Java 2 ORB implementation of CORBA as well as Inprise’sVisiBroker for Java. The approach to presenting CORBA taken in this course is through an example stock trading application. Download pdf Introduction to CORBA
