  • Diesel 101 Manual PDF
  • What do you do when your diesel needs attention? Don’t call a mechanic. Learn how to care for it yourself. A friend of mine who I considered to be a knowledgeable, experienced boater recently made a remark in passing that startled me: “The most important tool in my toolbox is my checkbook.” He was serious. Everytime he noticed a drop of lube oil or antifreeze in his bilge or that his engines didn’t sound the way they should, he’d call his mechanic. He said it wasn’t worth his time to investigate problems himself. “That’s fine,” I said, “but you often cruise for several weeks, right? So... Download Diesel 101 Manual PDF
  • Making FITS available on DotNet Applications
  • The Flexible Image Transport System (FITS) is a powerful and widely adopted means of exchanging Astronomical Data. There are also a great number of tools and libraries available on many platforms to facilitate working with FITS. We present the FitsLib 1, A library written to facilitate development of astronomical data analysis tools on the Microsoft.Net Platform. This has been developed as a wrapper over one of the very popular and time tested FITS libraries, CFITSIO. Fits.Net library merges the advantages of speed and ruggedness of CFITSIO with the language independence of the Microsoft.Net technology and a simple Document Object Model (DOM). We believe this library will be intuitive for .NET programmers. We present the design and usage patterns of the library in C-Sharp. We also discuss performance issues of the library. Finally we present a number of applications and web services, which are currently running on this library. We wished to use the CFITSIO package in developing image cutout services on the Microsoft’s .Net Platform in the C-Sharp language. This is a comprehensive library and we did not feel translation was viable, C-Sharp does allow use of managed C++. We set out to wrap a minimal set of routines in the managed C++ programming environment. This minimal set, however, grew larger as more functionality was required in C-Sharp. It became apparent that developing code with so many pointers and unmanaged data objects in C-Sharp would prove to be prohibitive, both for development and for maintenance. This led to the design of an
  • HOW TO DEVELOP A MOBILE 2.0 APPLICATION
  • As we all know, online (or virtual) communities are groups of people that primarily or initially interact with each other over the Internet. People who are active in the same social spaces on a regular basis will probably start to recognize other visitors after a while [Wolf, 2006]. With some of them, they will interact by sharing or exchanging information or thoughts. Communication plays an important role in everybody’s life, professionally as well as personally. Lately, the demand for efficient communication ‘tools’ has steadily increased. Most newly developed technologies have resulted from this trend. The main drivers involved are users’ mobility and their continuous need for ubiquitous communication: mobile applications make it possible to communicate whenever and wherever people want [Jaokar & Fish, 2006; Lacohée, Wakeford & Pearson, 2003]. The A4MC³ project (Architecture for Mobile Community Content Creation), involves the development of a mobile application used within a city context to allow users, i.e. (mainly) city inhabitants, to communicate and share information with one another. This application aims to connect users and to serve a variety of heterogeneous goals, ranging from maintaining social contacts to sharing content, from publishing in an online newsletter (like a city blog or forum) to advertising a business in a user-tailored way. In the context of this project, an empirical study was conducted on the use of mobile technologies by people in a city context and on their impact on the formation of the community by the exchange of content in the form of photos and

  • Web 2.0 Re-examined: The Paradigm Shift, Technology Stack and Business Value
  • This essay re-examines web 2.0 by looking at its technology stack and impact on enterprise computing, in contrast to the common consumer-centric point of view. Categorizing the landscape into Consumer Web 2.0 and Enterprise Web 2.0, the essay establishes a web 2.0 technology stack that forms the foundation of a paradigm shift called “architecture of partition”. In the end, the business impact of web 2.0 technologies on enterprises is presented. Web 2.0: the State of Confusion Web 2.0 is exciting, but there are lots of confusions today, even among noted experts. There are two schools of opinions among experts. The first school is critical of Web 2.0. This group is represented by Tim Berners-Lee and Russell Raw. Their opinions are: 1. There is nothing fundamentally different between “Web 1.0” and the so-called “Web 2.0”; 2. Web 2.0 has nothing new and is based on the same technology as of Web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is just a piece of jargon. The second group of experts are Web 2.0 champions. This group is represented by Tim O’Reilly, Paul Graham and Dion HinchCliffe. This group argues that: 1. Web 2.0 is here and it is big; 2. “Architecture of Participation”, “the Network Effect (social network)”, and “Harnessing the collective intelligence” are fundamentally new and different from web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is more about a paradigm shift in how people use the web, less about new technology. “Web 2.0” is not based on a technology shift, but rather a usage paradigm shift. Despite the confusion, the term “Web 2.0” is getting widely

  • The Eclipse 3.0 platform: Adopting OSGi Technology PDF Download
  • Eclipse was mainly designed to be a tooling platform, but with Version 3.0, Eclipse is now evolving toward a Rich Client Platform (RCP). This change, driven by the open-source community, brought a whole set of new requirements and challenges for the Eclipse platform, such as dynamic plug-in management, services, security, and improved performance. This paper describes the path from the proprietary Eclipse 2.1 runtime to the new Eclipse 3.0 runtime based on OSGie speci?cations. It details the motivation for such a change and discusses the challenges this change presented. 1 Although Eclipse was initially created to serve as an open platform for tools, its architecture was designed so that its components could be used to build essentially any client application. Now in Release 3.0, Eclipse has reinvented itself, evolving toward a 2 Rich Client Platform (RCP). The RCP is a natural progression toward integrating not only tools but Download The Eclipse 3.0 platform: Adopting OSGi Technology Manual

  • Is e-Teaching Web Zero or Potentially Web 2.1?
  • The current pedagogical trend about involving students in their learning is naturally extended to student-centered learning in e-Learning systems. Likewise, instructional designs are developed to enable and motivate students at center stage to learn effectively and willingly. However, from our ten years of experience in promoting an e-Learning system called TIES in higher education, we have realized that an “e-Teaching” environment for teachers to teach effectively and happily needs to be founded as a prerequisite to successful e-Learning. We further argue that “e-Teaching” can be developed to be a central idea that is actually more important than e-Learning. The reasons are as follows: (1) teaching is more fun and active than learning, (2) teaching requires more creative and imaginative brain work than learning, (3) teaching creates more value than learning, and (4) the Web is growing as a global brain harnessing intellectual knowledge. A seemingly innocuous shift of the center of attention from students to teachers may transform e-Teaching as a current Web 0 status to even Web 2.1, if we may borrow a trendy word from a recent Web 2.0 hype. Increasingly, e-Leaning today is defined by terms like Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the context of ubiquitous IT network society. However, the bottom line of e-Learning is defined as training delivered on a PC/Internet to improve students' learning performance and their self-motivation and self-directedness. Instructional designs are also aimed at supporting students to learn effectively in an e-Learning environment. Thus, the architecture of e-Learning is clearly focused on students, and
  • Making a quick water material in 3ds Max
  • In this tutorial I will show how to make a quick water material in 3d Max. Keep in mind there’s no special plugins used, just 3d Max materials, which will render much quicker. Open up the materials window. Pick a new material and change the diffuse color to a dark brown, so we can make some dirty water. Also change the “Specular” value to 90, and the “Glossiness” to 70. Go down to Maps - bump change the value to 30, hit none and choose noise material. Change the X and Y tiling value to 2, also choose fractal for “Noise Type”. Now lets do the reflections. Change the reflection value to 30, hit none and choose Reflect/Refract material. The default Size value of a 100 works well and quick during render time, but if you want to see more details just increase the value; I’m going to increase it to 200. Change the Blur Offset value to .01, this will slightly blur the reflections. Download pdf Making a quick water material in 3ds Max
