Google Earth is a virtual globe program, allowing viewers to visualize data on top of displayed satellite images of the Earth’s surface. Launched in 2005 and released to the public in 2006, Google Earth fast became a household name hailed as a revolution for humanitarian development, much as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were several decades ago. According to MapAction, “There seem at present tobe two distinct groups of humanitarian practitioners: those who are already, albeit tentatively,exploiting Google Earth and related geospatial methods in their work,and those whowill be, as soon as they see their first demonstration of its potential.” (MapAction, 2008: 9)

This document is intended for Mac users that want to make discs of homebrew games and emulators working on their Dreamcast system. Currently, there is a rather easy way to do this, but I see the same questions over and over again with methods that in my opinion are somewhat dated (though still useful if there is no other option). The world of DC emulation and homebrews can be confusing to the new user even if you are on a PC.

This document is intended to be a guide or a reference for those who, using Maya to create their characters, want to export them into the Quake III Arena engine. It’s based on our experience at the Virtual World of Art (VWA) where we wanted to create our own avatars for our environments, and reflects as well some particularities due to the specific needs of our project, that might not be the same of the average user willing to create boths for the game. We just use Quake III Arena as an engine for a very different context than what the game itself is about, but I think that it can be a useful reference nevertheless for those Quake III Arena enthusiasts that, using already Maya to model, texture and animate their characters, would like to see them fighting in Quake III Arena.

This tutorial will guide you through a method of creating a simple virtual reality model of a room, similar to the one shown here.
You will perform all of the initial 3D modelling using AutoCAD. You will import the AutoCAD model to 3ds max and set it up for exporting as a virtual reality model in the form of a VRML file, (3ds max has better tools built in for setting up and creating the VRML world file than AutoCAD.)

This tutorial will guide you through one way of setting up an animated sliding door in a vrml world using 3ds max.
You will be provided with a prepared AutoCAD (3rooms.dwg) model of three rooms, comprising walls, ceiling, floor and a door, as shown above. You will import the AutoCAD model to 3ds max. You will apply lights, materials, cameras, and a navigation helper as previously done in the Tutorial #1 – VRML room of primitives! tutorial. You will animate the door to make it slide, and then create a ‘touch sensor’ helper to control the door opening. Finally you export as a virtual reality model in the form of a VRML file.
