The history of computers starts out about 2000 years ago, at the birth of the abacus, a wooden rack holding two horizontal wires with beads strung on them. When these beads are moved around, according to programming rules memorized by the user, all regular arithmetic problems can be done. Another important invention around the same time was the Astrolabe, used for navigation. Blaise Pascal is usually credited for building the first digital computer in 1642. It added numbers entered with dials and was made to help his father, a tax collector. In 1671, Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz invented a computer that was built in 1694. It could add, and, after changing some things around, multiply. Leibniz invented a special stepped gear mechanism for introducing the addend digits, and this is still being used.

A decision is a deliberative process that results in the commitment to a categorical proposition. An apt analogy is a judge or jury that must take time to weigh evidence for alternative interpretations and/or possible ramifications before settling on a verdict. Here we evaluate progress in understanding how this process is implemented in the brain. Our scope is somewhat narrow: We consider primarily studies that relate behavior on simple sensory-motor tasks to activity measured in the brain because of the ability to precisely control sensory input, quantify motor output, and target relevant brain regions for measurement and analysis. Nevertheless, our intent is broad: We hope to identify principles that seem likely to contribute to the kinds of flexible and nuanced decisions that are a hallmark of higher cognition. When integrating data from multiple sources, a key task that online communities often face is to match the schemas of the data sources. Today, such matching often incurs a huge workload that overwhelms the relatively small set of volunteer integrators. In such cases, community members may not even volunteer to be integrators, due to the high workload, and consequently no integration systems can be built. To address this problem, we propose to enlist the multitude of users in the community to help match the schemas, in a Web 2.0 fashion. We discuss the challenges of this approach and provide initial solutions. Finally, we describe an extensive set of experiments on both real-world and synthetic data that demonstrate the utility of the approach.

This tutorial is intended to teach new animation students a few basic animation techniques and workflow based on fundamental animation principles using Maya and a free character setup named walkingBall_v2.3 created by the author. This character setup or “rig” has many useful features without being overwhelming to newer students. This tutorial assumes you have a basic understanding of how to navigate the Maya interface, find menu commands, and other basic computer file management skills.

Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed (or 2000 in some regions) is the black sheep of the NFS franchise but not in a bad way. For many fans, this was the best game released due to the unusual amount of physics involved in what was supposed to be an arcade game. There were some critics expressed toward the Porsche exclusivity feature but they’ve calm down over the years. Almost seven years later, it’s still the reference point for any NFS games released since then.

Due to the large number of factors involved (such as speed, road conditions, inflation, vehicle maintenance, your driving habits, temperature), it is impossible to predict a firm figure for expected tread life. Tires should be inspected regularly and replaced when the tire is worn down. 1. Checking for Wear Tires are worn out when there is just 1.6-mm (2/32-inch) tread depth remaining. This can be measured with an inexpensive tread depth gauge, available at most auto supply stores. In the absence of a gauge, here are two quick methods to check to see if your tires are worn down to the point of replacement. A. The Tire Wear Bars Tires are manufactured with “wear bars” (see Figure 1) that indicate when there is less than 1.6 mm (2/32 inch) of tread depth remaining. When the tread is worn down to the point that the wear bars are flush with the tread, the tire must be replaced.
