  • Web 2.0 tools and some things they could be used for: Community building
  • Twitter http://twitter.com/ – won’t suit everyone but is very good for little snippets, observations and off the cuff chats that the web has not really replicated until now. Could be used to build communities and for lightweight communication between projects. A useful feature is the use of hash (#) tags, placing the # at the beginning of an event or project tag to aggregate comments. Blogs – persuading projects to blog regularly is great for the programme manager, for a community of projects and for anyone interested in the project. A Project Manager’s reflection on the issue of keeping a blog: So is it worth it? Speaking personally and (for once) completely frankly, I’ve been quite enjoying writing, for several reasons. First, it has allowed me to do a bit of self-indulgent vanity publishing, something for which I criticise other bloggers but, hey, I’m a hypocrite! Second, the requirement to be reflective has made me think about various aspects of the project, which is no bad thing. Third, as it has turned out, I haven’t had to trouble my conscience by using buckets of whitewash to tell a positive story; the project really has been going pretty well. Ning https://www.ning.com/ – easily build your own social network, a good place for people to get to know each other online communities can be closed or open and communication can be public or private. Ning is also a useful tool to run before a workshop for participants to start thinking, and during the workshop for getting

  • PolyTrans for Maya PDF Tutorial
  • PolyTrans-for-Maya is a premiere plug-in system for Maya (Windows) that allows Maya to freely exchange complete 3D scene data with virtually any other 3D software package, such as 3DS MAX (via PolyTrans-for-Maya and Okino .bdf format), Lightwave, OpenFlight, Softimage-3D, Softimage-XSI, IGES 5.3, ACIS SAT, Autodesk Inventor, DirectX, DXF/DWG (with ACIS solids in DWG files), Parasolids, Pro/Engineer, QuickDraw-3D, Renderman RIB, Solid Edge, Solid Works, STEP, trueSpace and many, many others. PolyTrans-for-Maya has become one of Okino’s most popular, specialized plug-in converter systems since it adds a lot of new functionality to the Maya software package itself. It also forms a natural and well refined pipeline between Maya and 3DS MAX via the mirror twin ‘PolyTrans-for-Maya’ and ‘PolyTrans-for-3DSMAX’ native plug-in modules. PolyTrans-for-Maya breaks down all previous data translation barriers and truly makes Maya a universally open software package. In the tradition of all Okino 3D data translators, resulting translated files are ‘Render Ready’ meaning that they can be loaded and rendered in the destination program (Maya, Softimage- 3D/XSI, 3DS MAX, Lightwave, etc.) with little or no changes necessary. • Internet Service Provider Networks: Simplifying POP Architectures PDF
  • The Growth of Internet Traffic While some previous estimates of the Internet’s growth rate were exaggerated, market research firms now generally agree that Internet bandwidth consumption is growing at about 100% per year. Based on its research, IDC expects this growth rate to persist until 2007, with aggregate traffic growing from an estimated 180 petabits/day in 2002 to 5,175 petabits/day by the end of 2007. Sources of traffic growth will include new subscribers and increased Internet usage by existing enterprise subscribers. However, most of the traffic growth is expected to come from wider adoption of broadband access services by existing subscribers. Broadband access encourages increased usage of the Internet and enables new user services such as IP telephony, digital media distribution, etc. Along with the need for more bandwidth to support these new services, residential and business customers alike are expecting higher levels of network reliability and predictability at lower and lower price per bit levels. The ability to predict and guarantee service levels and maintain QoS will not only add to customer or user satisfaction but also open up new competitive advantages by leveraging the network as a strategic asset.
