  • Unisys and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Speed Up the Process
  • Unisys and Microsoft have dispelled the perception that for high performance ETL, the only alternative is a UNIX-based solution. With SQL Server 2005 Integration Services, Microsoft and Unisys deliver an optimized ETL solution that will support even the most demanding enterprise Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives. They conducted a series of real ETL (Extraction, Transformation and Load) tests with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Integration Services (SSIS, formerly known as DTS). Performance tests compared throughput, scalability and performance on both 32- and 64-bit processor configurations on a Unisys ES7000. SSIS demonstrated parallelism and the ability to utilize all available CPUs in multiple aggregation, parallel lookup and transformation testing. The testing extracted, transformed and loaded more than 1.2 billion sales and marketing order line items into a data warehouse in less than an hour. It processed one billion lookups over a dimension table with 100 million rows in just over 24 minutes, or about 683,000 lookups/second. Integration Services on a 16-processor Unisys ES7000 processed 16 parallel transformation workloads amounting to 14.84 GB of raw data in 8 minutes, a rate of 1.86 GB/minute. The test results documented in this paper prove that Microsoft SSIS running on an ES7000 server can take advantage of parallelism and multiple processors to deliver the extremely high rates of transformation throughput. Through collaborative benchmark testing and engineering, Unisys and Microsoft mitigate implementation risk by validating optimal performance and establishing best practices in system sizing and configuration to achieve high performance levels. • SAP NetWeaver BPM White Paper
  • The only constant in business is change. Simply driving cost and delay out of core operations no longer guarantees success. Efficiency remains vital, but to compete in today’s business environment companies also need to be agile, flexible, and innovative. They need to take a holistic view of the enterprise, across organizational and geographic boundaries, product boundaries, and system boundaries. In fact, the business’s “value chain” is no longer even confined within the company walls. Customers, suppliers, and third parties have become an integral part of the end-to-end business processes defining the new extended enterprise. Business process management is an attempt to provide that holistic view. It provides a new management discipline, a new suite of software technologies and tools, and a new IT implementation style based on concrete links between strategy and execution. This white paper explains SAP’s place in the BPM landscape and describes its new offering in that arena, NetWeaver BPM. What Is BPM? As a management discipline, BPM views the business not from the perspective of org charts and systems, still largely fragmented along traditional functional lines, but from the perspective of processes that cut across the silos. It provides tools that allow the company to model those processes end-to-end for analysis and governance, promoting consistency with policies and best practices, and fostering innovation by making the flow logic visible to the business. BPM also provides a suite of tools and technologies that support the management discipline by making those new and improved process models executable. That is, the model
  • Kurzweil 3000 for Macintosh Network Installation and Administration Guide
  • A Kurzweil 3000 Network is a system that provides all of the features and benefits of the single-user Kurzweil 3000 product, but with the following added advantages: • The Kurzweil 3000 Engine stores each student’s Kurzweil 3000 settings and preferences. This allows students to access their customized settings from any Kurzweil 3000 client computer connected to the Kurzweil 3000 Network. • System administrators can manage large, and changing, numbers of Kurzweil 3000 users and Kurzweil 3000 licenses from a central location using the Kurzweil 3000 Administrator. • The Kurzweil 3000 client software may be installed on as many computers on your network as you want, regardless of the number of licenses you have purchased. As long as there is an available license on the Kurzweil 3000 Engine, it is available to any client on the network. • Teachers can track each student’s progress and daily interaction with Kurzweil 3000 via the Eventlog file The Kurzweil 3000 Network is a software application that consists of one or more computers running client software, and at least one computer running the Network Engine software. While logged on to the Kurzweil 3000 Network, users can work with Kurzweil 3000 using their preferred Kurzweil 3000 settings, which are saved on the Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine. The physical layout of a Kurzweil 3000 Network consists of the following: • Kurzweil 3000 Network Engine computer. A computer on which the Kurzweil 3000 network engine software has been installed. This Macintosh must be running Mac OS X version 10.3.9 or later. The Kurzweil 3000 network engine’s

  • Installing and using the Message Box Knowledge Object for Authorware
  • This document assumes you have a copy of the Message Box KO installer. You can download the Message Box KO from the internet at: http://www.learningconsulting.com. Please contact AEC Consulting directly, for more information. The Message Box KO works with Authorware 5, 6 and 6.5. Please make sure that Authorware is installed and/or available before launching the installer. The installer for the Message Box KO is very simple. The only prompts that you typically need to follow are the “Next” and “Finish” buttons. To install the Message Box KO: 1. Double-click the Message Box KO installer file. 2. In the Welcome screen, click Next to install the KOs shown in Figure 1, below. 3. The Message Box KO installer tries to automatically find the location where Authorware is installed. If it is unable to determine this location, you may receive a prompt similar to Figure 2, to manually locate the Authorware folder. Otherwise, the installer immediately copies the necessary files to appropriate Authorware subfolders, see Figure 3. If the installer copies the Message Box KO files to a location other than the intended Authorware folder (i.e. Authorware is installed in more than one location), contact your vendor for more information. • AJAX and PHP Building Responsive Web Applications
  • Online chat solutions have been very popular long before AJAX was born. There are numerous reasons for this popularity, and you're probably familiar with them if you've ever used an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client, or an Instant Messenger (IM) program, or a Java chat applet. AJAX has pushed online chat solutions forward by making it easy to implement features that are causing trouble or are harder to implement with other technologies. First of all, an AJAX chat application inherits all the typical AJAX benefits, such as integration with existing browser features, and (if written well) cross-platform compatibility. An additional advantage is that an AJAX chat application avoids the connectivity problems that are common with other technologies, because many firewalls block the communication ports they use. On the other hand, AJAX uses exclusively HTTP for communicating with the server. Probably the most impressive AJAX chat application available today is Meebo (http://www.meebo.com). We are pretty sure that some of you have heard about it, and if you haven't, we recommend you have a look at it. The first and the most important feature in Meebo is that it allows you to log in into your favorite IM system by using only a web interface. At the time of writing, Meebo lets you connect to AIM or ICQ, Yahoo! Messenger, Jabber, or GTalk, and MSN. You can access all these services from a single web page with a user friendly interface, with no pop-up windows or Java applets. Meebo isn't the only web application that
