  • A Project-Based Approach to Programming Language Evaluation
  • Answers to Which programming language is the best?" can ignite fierce arguments among zealots who see no reason for any language other than the one they use. Fortunately, most programmers do not hold such extreme opinions, and often would like to see a rational evaluation of different languages from which they can draw their own opinions. Many researchers have proposed methods for comparing and evaluating languages 2, 9, 10], but they tend to focus more on the languages than on the needs of language users. Although languages are intrinsically worthy of study, their real purpose is as tools in problem solving. Users do need to know the strengths and deficiencies inherent in a language, and how well a language applies to an application domain. But, even within an application domain, requirements for two distinct projects may vary widely. One product may have to be highly reliable and portable, while another may have to be extremely efficient. Thus, knowing how well a language supports an application domain may not su ce we also need to know how well a language supports the needs of particular projects within a domain. We need to be able to evaluate languages for their applicability to a specific project. This paper proposes a language evaluation method with just that focus. In the following sections, we review major categories of programming language evaluation criteria, and propose an evaluation scheme that could help software developers determine the best language for their particular task. Finally, we reflect on the significance of
  • What is Microsoft's Network Access Protection
  • The most significant differences between Microsoft’s Network Access Protection architecture and other NAC architectures you see in the iLabs come because Microsoft does not make switches or routers. Therefore, the path for handling enforcement is different, focusing on server enforcement and standards-based switch enforcement. The original intent of MS-NAP was not security, but to find and quarantine non-compliant clients in the enterprise LAN. As the interest in NAC has increased, Microsoft has adjusted their architecture to include more enforcement mechanisms. In early 2007, the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) and Microsoft announced interoperability between TNC and NAP thus opening the door for a single unified Network Access Control client It’s important to realize that MS-NAP is part of Microsoft’s Server 2008 product, previously codenamed Longhorn, and of Windows Vista. The soon to be released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP will also include MS-NAP functionality. Access Requestor in MS-NAP Following the common NAC architecture, the Microsoft client side is broken into three parts. At the top are the System Health Agents, taking on the function of collecting end-point security information about the client, such as the state of the anti-virus software or whether the firewall has the right policy. Microsoft has provided a System Health Validator, and many 3rd parties have declared their intent to provide System Health Validators of their own. These agents are responsible for generating Statements of Health that can be used to assess end-point security. Tying the System Health Agents into the rest of the architecture is Microsoft’s Network Access Protection

GM’s engineers based the Aztek on the Content detail for this 2001 PONTIAC AZTEK GT: Pontiac categorizes the Aztek as a Sport Recreational Vehicle, and says it may be the world’s most versatile vehicle. GM’s engineers based the Aztek on the short version of the Pontiac Montana, trimming 9.4 cm from the wheelbase, widening the wheel tread (the distance between the centre of the left tire and the centre of the right tire on each axle) slightly, and replacing the sliding side doors by traditional ones. The Aztek is available in SE and GT versions. Interior and trunk Though accessibility is not a problem, the lack of foot room between the seat cushion and the Bpillar makes it harder to get out from the rear. The front seats are very comfortable. In the GT version, the driver can adjust the height of his seat, which contributes to the very good driving position. The four roof pillars are wide and create big blind zones. The median lines on the roadway reflect off the glass portion of the rear liftgate onto the rear-view mirror. On the other hand, when the glass is clean, the driver can more easily judge distance when backing up. Download Pontiac AZTEK GT MAnual
  • Web 2.0 Re-examined: The Paradigm Shift, Technology Stack and Business Value
  • This essay re-examines web 2.0 by looking at its technology stack and impact on enterprise computing, in contrast to the common consumer-centric point of view. Categorizing the landscape into Consumer Web 2.0 and Enterprise Web 2.0, the essay establishes a web 2.0 technology stack that forms the foundation of a paradigm shift called “architecture of partition”. In the end, the business impact of web 2.0 technologies on enterprises is presented. Web 2.0: the State of Confusion Web 2.0 is exciting, but there are lots of confusions today, even among noted experts. There are two schools of opinions among experts. The first school is critical of Web 2.0. This group is represented by Tim Berners-Lee and Russell Raw. Their opinions are: 1. There is nothing fundamentally different between “Web 1.0” and the so-called “Web 2.0”; 2. Web 2.0 has nothing new and is based on the same technology as of Web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is just a piece of jargon. The second group of experts are Web 2.0 champions. This group is represented by Tim O’Reilly, Paul Graham and Dion HinchCliffe. This group argues that: 1. Web 2.0 is here and it is big; 2. “Architecture of Participation”, “the Network Effect (social network)”, and “Harnessing the collective intelligence” are fundamentally new and different from web 1.0; 3. Web 2.0 is more about a paradigm shift in how people use the web, less about new technology. “Web 2.0” is not based on a technology shift, but rather a usage paradigm shift. Despite the confusion, the term “Web 2.0” is getting widely
