  • Car Builder Deluxe 7.3 Macintosh OS X Native User's Guide
  • Optimum Resource is proud to present the newest version of its award-winning program, Car Builder Deluxe. Sophisticated, yet easy to use, Car Builder Deluxe appeals to children ages 8 and up, teenagers and adults who are fascinated by cars. As “design engineers,” users build cars on screen, specifying chassis length, wheelbase, engine type, transmission, fuel tank size, suspension, steering, wheels, tires and brakes. All functional choices are interrelated and will affect the performance of the final design. Next, users design the body of the car, now with complete pixel-by-pixel flexibility, adding windows, custom details and paint finishes. The program then tests the car in a wind tunnel and around a test track, accumulating data about top speed, cornering ability, acceleration and braking. A complete evaluation report is displayed and users can adjust, alter, save and print designs for comparison against future creations. Car Builder Deluxe teaches principles involved in building aerodynamic, efficient and safe cars. It introduces users to computer-aided design (CAD), enhances problem-solving skills, and fosters an elementary knowledge of physics and automotive design. Car designs and test results can be printed and stored for later use or modification. • Video Library: Silverlight 1.1 Case Example
  • For our Silverlight 1.1 example, we chose to port our Silverlight 1.0 example to 1.1. This provides a good feel for the differences between the two versions and for how to port applications from 1.0 to 1.1, and, in particular, it gives us an opportunity to see what is better about developing for 1.1. This chapter doesn’t duplicate the in-depth explanation of Chapter 7; instead, it focuses on the main differences and changes between the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the example application, Lumos. So it is recommended that you review Chapter 7 first to get familiarity with the solution. You can view the Silverlight 1.1 version of the Lumos application online by visiting http://labs.infragistics.com/wrox/silverlight1_0/chapter8. Also please note that the source code for the Lumos application is included along with the other code from the book and is available for download from www.wrox.com. However, to keep the file size of the download manageable, the code for the Lumos application available for download does not include the video clips from the full application. This means that the buttons will not work (due to missing videos), but it should be sufficient to get the idea across. You can download a cou- ple of the videos separately, however, to see them in action. Download pdf Video Library: Silverlight 1.1 Case Example

  • Web 2.0 Security and Privacy
  • Web 2.0 – user-generated content, rich user interfaces and co-operative, dynamic services – has also brought with it a new and extremely virulent breed of ‘Malware 2.0’. A key motivation for this study is the link between Web 2.0 and the increase in ‘drive-by’ malware infections requiring no intervention or awareness on the part of the user. To give some idea of the threat posed, a Scansafe report analysing malware trends reports that risks from compromised websites increased 407% in the year to May 2008. One of the most important sources of vulnerabilities in Web 2.0 is the inadequacy of access and authorisation frameworks used in Web 2.0 environments. In particular, this report highlights problems in policy frameworks governing the separation of control between web applications. These centre on the ‘same-origin’ policy, which sandboxes web applications coming from different domains, and the cases where this policy is either deliberately relaxed or circumvented for malicious purposes. Problems in access and authorisation frameworks often stem from the difficulty in finding a balance between allowing enough freedom for Web 2.0 applications to function and providing adequate security. Web 2.0 has also brought a sea-change in the way knowledge and information is managed. One page contains content and even executable code from multiple sources including end-users, and information may be syndicated (eg, using RSS) and altered many times from its original source. This means in particular that: • The increased opportunities for contributing content also provide more opportunities to inject malicious code leading to many vulnerabilities in the
