  • The Web 2.0 Driven SECI Model Based Learning Process
  • Nonaka and his knowledge transformation model SECI revolutionized the thinking about organizations as social learning systems. He introduced technical concepts like hypertext into organizational theory. Now, after 15 years Web 2.0 concepts seem to be an ideal fit with Nonaka’s SECI approach opening new doors for more personal, dynamic, and social learning on a global scale. In this paper, we present an extended view of blended learning which includes the combination of formal and informal learning, knowledge management, and Web 2.0 concepts into one integrated solution, by discussing what we call the Web 2.0 driven SECI model based learning process. Peter Drucker, among others, argues that in the emerging economy, knowledge is the primary resource for individuals and for the economy overall; land, labor, and capital. He further argues that improving front-line worker productivity is the greatest challenge of the 21st century [1]. Realizing that knowledge and competence have become increasingly critical to their continued success, organizations worldwide are spending upwards of $ 2.2 trillion dollars on training and education measures, which have become integral to any organization for it to remain competitive [2]. Over the last decade, it has been widely argued that e-Learning could respond to accelerating global competition, increase the quality of learning experiences, remove situational barriers, be more cost effective, and transform the way we learn. However, despite isolated achievements, the success record was on the whole not very encouraging and e-Learning did not succeed to revolutionize our education and learning processes [3][4]. • ASTIGMATISM - Blurred Vision and Tired Eyes Why do things look blurry
  • Astigmatism is a very common focussing error of the eyes which causes blur. It is caused by the shape of the eye, usually due to the cornea’s surface or occasionally due to the eye’s lens being tilted. Sometimes astigmatism can be inherited but it often happens as a normal characteristic of growth. Blur from astigmatism is not like that from myopia where all of an image is equally blurred, because some parts of the image are more out of focus than others. If you look at the line diagrams, you can see the effect of astigmatism by tilting the tip the page down and facing away from you the lines running across the page are less distinct than those running away from you. The blur of astigmatism makes things uncomfortable to look at, difficult to focus and may cause headaches, tiredness and poor concentration. What about tired eyes? Astigmatism can also result in fatigued eyes, especially if you are concentrating on anything for a long period of time, whether looking up close (for example, studying or computer use) or in the distance (for example, driving). • OPQ32 Technical Manual
  • This Technical Manual is intended to be read in conjunction with the OPQ32 User Manual. The content of the latter focus on administration, scoring, norming and interpretation issues, and is intended to cover all the matters one needs to refer to when using the OPQ32. The technical manual is intended for reference purposes and provides all the technical backup needed when evaluating the OPQ32 in terms of its suitability for use. The following summaries provide outlines of the contents of each chapter. Chapter 1 - Introduction The OPQ32 model is an occupational model of personality, which describes 32 dimensions or scales of people's preferred or typical style of behaviour at work. The OPQ32 is designed to be an international model, reflecting the changing nature of work at the beginning of the twenty-first century. It is particularly appropriate for use with professional and managerial groups, although the content of the OPQ32 model deals with personality characteristics important to a wide variety of roles. The OPQ32 model follows the general OPQ model of personality, which breaks personality down into three domains: Relationships with People, Thinking Styles and Feelings and Emotions. The three domains are joined by a potential fourth — the Dynamism domain — which is composed of scales such as Vigorous, Achieving and Competitive that relate to sources of energy. The OPQ model of personality provides OPQ users with a clear framework for interpreting complex patterns of personality. Chapter 2 - Test Materials and Use This chapter provides a brief outline of the range of OPQ32 materials that
  • Creating 2D Drawings from 3D AutoCAD Model
  • This class explores the various techniques in creating 2D part and assembly drawings from 3D AutoCAD models. As part of the AutoCAD 3D Power Track, you will learn best practices for creating drawings from your 3D models. While notalways required, it is still necessaryto generate drawings for an object to be built. Using the tools and methods presented in this class, you will learn to quickly and efficiently create those drawings. Two-dimensional drawings are still needed to communicate ideas in industry. While designing in 3D offers significant advantages, designs may still have to be displayed in a 2D format for producing your products. The following lessons teach you the methods, commands, and options for creating views of your 3D models. These methods include defining views based on orientation of 3D models, planes, and 2D geometry extracted from the 3D models. You also learn to create, edit, and manage layouts, and to combine defining views to create layouts that document your 3D designs. Section a Solid Model and Generate 2D Geometry This lesson describes how to graphically remove part of a 3D model and generate 2D geometry from the solid model. As you create more detailed models, there will be times when you need to view an aspect of a model that is visually obstructed by other parts or features of the model. By using section planes, you can view the information you want in 3D or 2D form. You can also generate 2D cross sections based on the planes you define that can be used to
  • eXtc Web Developer Overview
  • eXtc Web Developer (EWD) is a very high productivity, enterprise-grade platform for developing web applications. It includes an advanced but extremely easy to use Ajax Framework, allowing sophisticated, modern web applications to be built almost as quickly and simply as static web pages. EWD has been designed to be technology-independent, and is potentially capable of working with any web application front-end environment (eg PHP, Java Server Pages, ASP.Net), any scripting language and any database. Background There are numerous technologies for developing web applications, all of which have their pros and cons, and each with their own supporters and detractors. There are mainstream, non-proprietary and/or Open Source technologies such as PHP and Java Server Pages (JSP), and there are proprietary technologies such as .Net. The choice of technology will usually be a result of issues such as performance, cost, available skills, corporate strategy or independent technical advice. Although the end product of these technologies is HTML and JavaScript, the mechanics and methodology needed to program and use these technologies are very different. It is very difficult to change your mind and change technologies once you have committed to one approach. Programming staff will tend to be skilled in the technology you’ve chosen, and changing technologies involves significant retraining and/or re-recruitment of staff. eXtc Web Developer (EWD) completely changes this situation and allows you to develop your web applications in a way that is independent of your web application run-time technology, and allows you to focus on what you are trying to do, rather than
  • Using Web Analytics with Microsoft Silverlight
  • Silverlight is Microsoft’s cross-browser, cross-platform browser plug-in that allows the creation of interactive web applications that employ high quality streaming media, vector graphics, images, and animation. Deployed as a plug-in for the major browsers on the Windows, Mac and Linux (supported by Novell) operating systems, web developers can craft interactive applications that have an identical user experience on the vast majority of web browsers deployed today. Silverlight addresses a disconnect that exists today in web development workflow where the design intent of graphics designers and interaction designers cannot be faithfully communicated to and crafted by the web developers. In Silverlight, this intent is created in design tools like Expression Design and Expression Blend and passed off to web developers in XML-based XAML data files. The fidelity of the designers’ ideas is kept as there is a clear separation between the design in XAML and the code in JavaScript. Silverlight is a browser plug-in that renders XAML and exposes a JavaScript programming model in 1.0, extending this with a .NET programming model and runtime in Silverlight 2. Since the Silverlight 2 runtime has full access to the HTML Document Object Model (DOM) and cross-domain data access abilities, it is possible for future Silverlight applications to implement analytics entirely in managed code or in JavaScript code that is invoked from the managed code. This architecture enables using AJAX-style programming patterns for building responsive, interactive, applications. An event model within the Silverlight control allows for web developers to easily add JavaScript-based event handling for mouse,
  • Practical PHP Programming
  • Writing PHP code is quite a fun task – as we’re sure of you will agree – it’s an easily learnt, flexible, and feature-rich language that lends itself very well to scripts of all shapes and sizes. Almost certainly as a result of this comparative ease of use, many PHP programmers take to re-inventing the wheel a lot and spend much time writing and rewriting ‘new and improved’ code to handle authentication, caching, forums, opinion polls, and other systems that have been coded and recoded in the past. This is not unique to PHP as a language. C++, for instance, utilises the Standard Template Library (STL) to provide abstract data types (ADTs) for programmers that are pre-written, pre-optimised, and are cross-platform. As a result, a programmer writing for Windows using C++ can create and use STL stacks, vectors, maps, and queues, and have them recompile smoothly on Mac OS, OS/390, Solaris, and, of course Linux. This is immensely time-saving, so it’s unsurprising that many other languages have their own versions of this plan. In PHP, this is known as PEAR, the PHP Extension and Application Repository, and is available from http://pear.php.net. The purpose of this tutorial is to briefly outline what PEAR can offer, with a particular focus (thanks to popular demand) on PEAR::DB, the advanced database abstraction library that forms the most popular part of PEAR.
