  • A mSQL and perl Web Server Mini HOWTO
  • Everybody who wants to install a web server database but does not know which software is necessary and how it is installed should benefit from reading this text. This text provides all information necessary to get a SQL database for a web server going; it does not go into any detail of CGI programming, nor does it explain the SQL database language. Excellent books are available on both topics, and it is the intention of this text to provide a working platform based on which a user can then study CGI programming and SQL. For getting a small scale SQL system running (not the notorious example of a major airline booking system, or space mission management database) it will be sufficient to have the software described in this text and the documentation accompanying it. The user manual of msql (a database introduced in this text) provides sufficient information on SQL for building your own database. The reader of this text should have a working knowledge of how to obtain files via ftp if he has no access to CD?ROMs, and a basic understanding of how to build binaries from sources. Anyway, all steps explained in this text were tested on a real life system and should also work on the reader's system. It can be safely assumed that databases with a high volume of data or a complicated relational setup (like, perhaps, a lexical database for a living language) must be accessible to many users and operators at the same time. Ideally,
  • Towards C# program verification: C#-kernel and its axiomatic semantics
  • Verification of programs presented in widely-used object-oriented programming languages, such as C++, C#, Java, is a subject of much current interest. The well-known approach to program verification is based on Hoare-like axiomatic semantics. Difficulties of developing compact and transparent axiomatic semantics of object-oriented programming languages are connected with such constructs as overloading, dynamic binding of methods, exception handling, static initialization of classes. Axiomatic semantics has been proposed for different sequential subsets of Java in [3, 4, 7–10]. While compact and transparent axiomatic semantics has been developed for separate difficult Java constructs, it turned out to be cumbersome and inconvenient for the practical use in the case of a wide sequential Java subset. In this paper we consider a wide sequential C# subset called C#-light. C#-light programs include all sequential C# constructs except for attributes, destructors, using statements, checked and unchecked constructs and unsafe code constructs. To simplify C#-light program verification, C#-light is translated into an intermediate language C#-kernel, for which a Hoare-like axiomatic semantics is proposed. Unlike standard axiomatic semantics, our forward rules can generate lazy verification conditions which include functional symbols denoting postponed extractions of invariants of labelled statements as well as postponed invocations of methods and delegates. These functional symbols are eliminated by refinement algorithms. Download pdf Towards C# program verification: C#-kernel and its axiomatic semantics

  • Building a Better Style Guide
  • Why are style guides so frequently created, but so rarely successful? All too often, businesses ask for a style guide as a means to create a common look and feel, in the belief that it will solve usability problems and establish consistency between applications – only to be disappointed in the results. Even if such a style guide is followed carefully, the resulting interfaces may not meet usability goals.. This paper explores strategies for creating a style guide that is more than a simplistic rules book. By making the style guide part of the process, it can be used to promote a shared vision, to help the product meet business and usability requirements for consistency and…it may actually be used. All too many projects to improve the usability of a user interface start with a request to create a style guide. To many user-centered designers, a style guide is the documentation of a design – the end of a design process – not a starting point for usability. And yet, we continue to create them, despite that fact that they may do little to address real usability problems or create a common approach to interaction. This paper describes some tactics and techniques for creating style guides that present and organize the appropriate information in a usable structure. WHAT’S IN A STYLE GUIDE? Style guides can be classified as platform (or language) guide, general design guides, or corporate style guides for a specific application. Although they overlap in many ways, each has a different

For details on various functions unique to each model, descriptions given for each model name. • y indicates a tip for your operation. • Some operations can be performed by using either the buttons on the main unit or on the remote control. In cases when the button names differ between the main unit and the remote control, the button name on the remote control is given in parentheses. • This manual is printed prior to production. Design and specifications are subject to change in part for the reason of the improvement in operativity ability, and others. In this case, the product has priority. Installing batteries in the remote control Insert the batteries in the correct direction by aligning the + and – marks on the batteries with the polarity markings (+ and –) inside the battery compartment. 1 Press the part marked with a and slide off the battery compartment cover. 2 Insert the four batteries supplied (AAA, R03, UM-4) according to the polarity markings on the inside of the battery compartment. 3 Slide the cover back on so that it snaps into place. • A Guide to Purchasing Copiers
  • Acquiring a copier is something that is usually done only every four or five years. Over that time, technology advances means that the range of machines you are familiar with may have been superseded. As a consequence, it can be a challenging time for the non-expert to select the "right" copier for their organization. DGS, Procurement & Logistics, State Printing & Duplicating have compiled this guide to assist you in selecting a copier for your application. It is recommended that you use the step-by-step guidelines to assist in your selection. An electronic version of the guide has also been compiled in Word for windows format. Download Hard Copy of Guide (Word format) Download Hard Copy of Guide (pdf format) The information in the guide has been assembled from personal knowledge and experience, reference to independent buying guides, supplier information and data gathered in copier replacement projects already completed. It has been constructed in a way that will enable you to logically address the steps necessary to make a more informed decision - giving due consideration to the type and size of machine, the features required, costing analysis and servicing issues. The guide addresses the most frequently asked questions about copiers: • When should I changeover our existing copier? • What features should I look for in a copier? • What size machine is right for our application? • How do I work out the cost of operating a copier? • Should we buy, rent or lease the copier? • What should I look for in regard to servicing? The guide also provides
  • Web (2.0) Mining: Analyzing Social Media
  • The past few years have seen the advent of Web-based social media systems such as blogs, wikis, media-sharing sites and message forums. Such Web2.0 systems have a significant amount of user generated content, and have become an important new way to publish information, engage in discussions and form communities on the Internet. Their reach and impact is significant with tens of millions of people providing content on a regular basis around the world. Governments, corporations, traditional media companies and NGOs are working to understand how to adapt to them and use them effectively. Citizens, both young and old, are also discovering how social media technology can improve their lives and give them more voice in the world. We must better under- stand the information ecology of these new publication methods in order to make them and the information they provide more useful, trustworthy and reliable. Doing this requires mining such systems to find communities based on a combination of topic, bias, and underlying beliefs; authors and blogs are most influential within a given community; from where do particular beliefs or ideas originate and how do they spread; what are the most trustworthy sources of information about a particular topic; and what opinions and beliefs characterize a community and how do these opinions change. The Blogosphere is part of the Web and therefore shares most of it’s general characteristics. It differs, however, in some ways that impact how we can model it and use the model to help extract information from it.
