  • E-safety and Web 2.0
  • An important concern is that posting personal information on social websites such as Facebook, MySpace and Bebo is putting children at risk of abuse. Our survey of children at Key Stages 3 and 4 shows that a substantial minority (42%) of children regularly interact socially online with people they have not met face to face. This does not, of itself, indicate that children are naive or engaging in behaviour that puts them at significant risk. Rather, it shows that online interaction forms a different, though overlapping, social space to that of face-to-face friendships, involving friends of friends and people encountered in the online world, for example, through multiplayer games. Schools can have a role in educating children to use the new internet safely and responsibly. Teachers can help children to appreciate when they cross the line from normal and acceptable Web 2.0 activity, which may include posting some personal details online, to abnormal and risky behaviour. Currently, most children are prevented from engaging in any social activity on the web at school. While this may remove the immediate danger to children and protect the school or local authority against lawsuits, it may also store up further problems for society at large. Now that most children have home access, safe behaviours are essential, but a strongly protected online environment at school may not provide the opportunity to learn these. Online bullying, or ‘cyberbullying’, can be an upsetting experience and a recent phenomenon is the posting of hurtful images and videos on the web.
  • The A/UX Web Server Deployment Guide A SnakeOil Labs White Paper
  • If you’re one of the four, five, maybe even six people out there on the Internet who want to set up an A/UX web server, then this guide is for you. To make things simpler, this document follows a few standard conventions. Text in Courier is reserved for terminal sessions. This provides a sample walkthrough of commands to type and their usual responses. For example: A larger courier font is used to denote relevant commands mid-sentence, such as newconfig, in order to separate the command from the rest of the text. File and path names, such as /etc/inittab, are in bold. Individual references to filenames without paths like inittab aren’t. Note: The famous Mac Bomb symbol is used to denote a tip or note. Small notes like these provide hints and tips as well as insight drawn from bitter experience. Make sure you read them! One small point; there are many instances where command lines are preceded by either a # or $ symbol. The # refers to the root user and the $ symbol refers to a regular user. In either case, don’t type the symbol. To make matters even more confusing, most of the configuration files used in this guide use leading # symbols to define comments. It’s confusing but it’s the UNIX convention, not ours. Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. Credit Where Credit’s Due This guide simply wouldn’t exist without the prior work of many others. In particular, I’d like to thank Scott from aux-penelope for letting me use his screenshots

Abstract We describe algorithms for real-time synthesis of realistic sound effects for interactive simulatio (e.g., games) and animation. These sound effects are produced automatically, from 3D models using dynamic simulation and user interac- tion. We develop algorithms that are efficient, physically- based, and can be controlled Download
  • TS-Modem Users Manual
  • The TS-Modem is an add-on PC/104 modem daughter board. It adds one AT-command style compatible Modem that can be directly connected to a dial-up telephone line. The modem interface is a 16C550A compatible UART with 16 byte TX RX FIFOs. The I/O port address and the IRQ used can be set with jumper blocks on the board itself. Typically, the TS Modem comes with a 33K baud modem, though it can be purchased with the optional feature of a 56K baud modem. The TS-Modem can also be purchased with the optional 16-bit PC/104 connector, which is required if using IRQ 10, 11, 12,14, or 15. The TS-Modem can also be purchased with the optional on-board speaker, which is useful during development to monitor call progress. The modem speaker can be turned off by removing a jumper. The TS-Modem comes with the following features. • Data Modem at line speeds of 33.6Kbps (optional 56Kbaud upon request) • Uses industry standard AT style commands. • NVRAM directory and profile storage. • Tone and Pulse dialing • Optional Speaker can be disabled/enabled with Jumper • COM PORT Jumper Selectable as COM1 thru COM6. • Uses IRQ 3-7, 9-12, 14-15 • +5V operation • RJ11C (telephone line) Download pdf for TS-Modem Users Manual

  • Forensic Analysis of Microsoft Internet Explorer Cookie Files
  • Since HTTP is a stateless protocol, websites must place information on a user’s computer if it needs to save information about a web session. For instance, when a user selects a widget and adds it to his shopping cart, that information can be saved on the client computer rather than the web server. The facility to save information in this manner is known as Cookies. A cookie is a small file containing data that the web server places on a user’s computer so it may request back at a later date. During forensic analysis it is often relevant to parse the information in Internet Explorer’s cookie files into a human readable format. Cookies aid forensic analysts during the investigation by providing insight to a suspect’s internet activity. After analysis of several example cookie files it was found that the format is relatively simple to understand. This paper will document the format of Internet Explorer’s (IE) cookie files for forensic analysis purposes and provide an open source tool to parse the information into a human readable format.
