  • Security Implications of Microsoft® Windows Vista
  • Windows Vista is the result of over four years of work and the investment of many billions of dollars. It is billed as the most secure version yet of the Microsoft Windows® operating system. This paper discusses not only the security technologies employed by Microsoft that justify this accolade but also how, in combination, these technologies mitigate specific classes of threats. This paper presents a high-level summary of Symantec’s research findings into the security of Windows Vista, and a set of conclusions that discuss the exposure that remains even in the face of its new security technologies. The intent of this paper is not to detract from the improvements that Microsoft has made, but rather to provide an objective and balanced view of how Windows Vista will affect the overall threat landscape. Symantec started researching Windows Vista in 2005 and has monitored its development carefully. The goal of this research has been to understand the technology improvements being made by Microsoft and also to understand the threats facing the new operating system and, in turn, Symantec’s customers. Security technologies in Windows Vista With the introduction of Windows Vista, Microsoft has leveraged a number of security technologies in order to mitigate several classes of attack that have historically plagued the Windows operating system. These technologies are numerous, and are best depicted visually Download pdf Security Implications of Microsoft® Windows Vista

  • Radial Tire Conditions Analysis Guide Manual PDF
  • A comprehensive review of tread wear and tire conditions | Determining the causes of tires placed out service is of vital importance to the fleet operator because of the substantial investment that tires represent. To protect your investment in tires, it is necessary to know what caused each tire’s demise. This publication will lead to cost savings through providing guidance and help in the following areas: 1. Eliminating causes of failures if possible. 2. Retreading and repairing tires and placing them back into service. 3. Presenting tires for warranty credit when applicable. 4, Improving tire maintenance and tire selection if necessary. Tire grading should be done prior to the tire being placed in a “scarp pile”. After a tire has been dismounted from the rim and before it is rolled out the tire shop door, the tire should be inspected with the following questions in mind: 1. Is the tire serviceable? 2. Is it repairable ot retreadable? 3. Could it be used in a limited service operation? 4. Should the tire be presented to the original manufacturer or retreader for warranty? 5. If none of the above apply, is it strictly junk? These questions must be answered before the tire is placed in the scrap pile since the tire may lose its usefullness to rust while waiting in the pile to be graded. Any usable tire should be stored in a dry covered area. Download Radial Tire Conditions Analysis Guide Manual PDF

  • Specifying, Discovering, and Monitoring Service Flows: Making Web Services Process-Aware
  • Web services, an emerging paradigm for architecting and implementing business collaborations within and across organizational boundaries, are currently of interest to both software vendors and scientists. In this paradigm, the functionality provided by business applications is encapsulated within web services: software components described at a semantic level, which can be invoked by application programs or by other services through a stack of Internet standards including HTTP, XML, SOAP, WSDL and UDDI [3,18]. Once deployed, web services provided by various organizations can be inter-connected in order to implement business collaborations, leading to composite web services. Today workflow management systems are readily available [6,49,59] and workflow technology is hidden in many applications, e.g., ERP, CRM, and PDM systems. However, their application is still limited to specific industries such as banking and insurance. Since 2000 there has been a growing interest in web services. This resulted in a stack of Internet standards (HTTP, XML, SOAP, WSDL, and UDDI) which needed to be complemented by a process layer. Several vendors proposed competing languages, e.g., IBM proposed WSFL (Web Services Flow Language) [48] building on FlowMark/MQSeries and Microsoft proposed XLANG (Web Services for Business Process Design) [71] building on Biztalk. BPEL [16] emerged as a compromise between both languages. The Business Process Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or BPEL for short) has become the de-facto standard for implementing processes based on web services [16]. Systems such as Oracle BPEL Process Manager, IBM WebSphere Application Server Enterprise, IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer Integration Edition, and Microsoft BizTalk
