There are hundreds of open source projects ranging from simple email software to publicly dedicated WWW servers and full operating systems. This article describes an online platform for educators with free open source educational systems including wikis, blogs, bulletin boards, Content/Course Management Systems, and MOOs, all open systems which are easily installed and managed. By setting up a content-based server, educators can save and archive their files online easily, and integrate their online resources without needing web design skill. With full control of these different educational tools, educators can form a collaborative learning community based on their teaching goals. Thus teachers and students can build an online community as partners. They can learn from and with others, share and try out web learning tools, distribute leadership and inspiration, and support and interact with others from all over the world.

This paper presents the design and implementation of DOT, a flexible architecture for data transfer. This architecture separates content negotiation from the data transfer itself. Applications determine what data they need to send and then use a new transfer service to send it. This transfer service acts as a common interface between applications and the lower-level network layers, facilitating innovation both above and below. The transfer service frees developers from re-inventing transfer mechanisms in each new application. New transfer mechanisms, in turn, can be easily deployed without modifying existing applications.

This paper briefly describes several common classes of coding error generally encountered when auditing web applications running on the Active Server Pages (ASP) platform. The paper is broken down into three broad sections, each of which addresses several common coding problems. The following is a list of the common errors that are discussed in this document, divided into three broad categories. The remainder of the document deals with each of these problems in turn. Any ASP code samples assume that the default language is VBScript, but all of the points apply equally to JavaScript. Equally, all occurrences of the SQL language assume that Microsoft SQL Server is being used as the back – end database.

The latest versions of the flagship products, Windows Vista and the Office 2007 System, made available to the public at the end of January 2007, have fueled the vast majority of the company’s most recent fiscal second quarter record financial results of $16.37 billion in revenue, and $6.48 billion in operating income. With Office SP1 out of the way at the end of 2007, Microsoft is currently building Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 3 and Windows 7 client platforms, as well as putting the finishing touches on Windows Server 2008.

When Symbian was formed 10 years ago, it inherited a browser from Psion. In the following years, the ability to browse real Web pages became a key differentiator of smartphones as compared to feature phones, and so Web technologies have played an important role in the story of Symbian. At the time of Symbian’s formation, there was much debate in the industry on whether the future of personal and enterprise computing would be in thick or thin clients – that is, in rich client software running mainly on the phone, or software hosted on a network server with a fairly simple browsing terminal. Ten years later and we see AJAX blurring the gap between the notion of thin and thick clients with rich browsing terminals backed with colossal arrays of servers dishing out email, photos, twitters and Facebook messages.
