Importing Molecular Data into Maya
Several PDB viewers, including Chimera and Pymol, are able to export molecular surfaces as VRML files. VRML files can then be converted to a file type that can be imported directly into the 3D application of your choice. By default, Maya is able to import .obj, .ma and .mel files. Plugins can be installed to import a number of other 3d file types, but as of yet there is no direct way to import VRML files into Maya.

For this whole scheme to work, you need a few tools. These include:
• .NET Framework SDK
• Microsoft SQL Server
The .NET Framework SDK is a free download from the Microsoft website. You go to the Microsoft website, click on download, select “.NET” then search—then pick and download the 100MB (or so) .NET Framework SDK 1.1 package. The SQL Server is a bit of a different matter. Apparently Microsoft (in all their wisdom) wishes to make it relatively difficult for developers to get a copy of their server—so they’re selling it for $49.99 : http://www.microsoft.com/sql/howtobuy/development.asp There is a way around buying SQL Server: Use the school provided server. Another possible way around is to download the “Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000)”, which is really just SQL Server, except without any tools. (ie: like MySQL server without the useful ‘mysql’ program to interact with the database). There are many ‘Query’ programs online to use instead, like “SqlBuddy” (search sourceforge.net for it). There are many different tutorials for opening the Xbox 360, with different methods. Here are some links to “opening the Xbox 360” tutorials. I decided not to cover opening the Xbox 360 in this tutorial since it is already long enough and there are many other tutorials for opening the Xbox 360.
Notes:
- The Anandtech guide says you need to use a Torx 12 screwdriver. There is no such thing. You need a Torx 10 screwdriver.
- Removing the grey side grill on the hard drive side is a little tricky.
The first friction tab is actually inaccessible from the top holes in the case, so you need to stick your screwdriver in the hole by where the hard drive button is and unclip it. (See Pic)
- In order to push in the back clips, you can do one of two things. You can use a thin metal object such as a precision flathead screwdriver / bobby pin / paperclip OR you can make an opening “key” out of a CD spindle case. The key would not work for me, it was too flimsy, but it works for some people. You can purchase an “unlock kit.”
- If all you want to do is just flash the firmware, you only need to remove the six long screws on the bottom. (See Pic) Read all these guides and watch all the videos, figure out how you want to go
