  • AutoCAD 2000i Tutorial - Second Level: 3D Modeling
  • Design includes all activities involved from the original concept to the finished product. Design is the process by which products are created and modified. For many years designers sought ways to describe and analyze three-dimensional designs without building physical models. Although orthographic projections can be used to provide much of the information, they still require designers to translate between the three-dimensional object and flat two-dimensional views. With the advancements in computer technology, the creation of three-dimensional models on computers offers a wide range of benefits. Computer models are easier to interpret and can be altered easily. Computer models can be analyzed using finite element analysis software, and simulation of real-life loads can be applied to the computer models and the results graphically displayed. There are three basic types of three-dimensional computer geometric modeling methods: wireframe modeling, surface modeling and solid modeling. The 3-D wireframe models contain information about the locations of all the points and edges in space coordinates. The 3-D models can be viewed from any direction as needed and are reasonably good representations of 3-D objects. But because surface definition is not part of a wireframe model, all wireframe images have the inherent problem of ambiguity. Download pdf AutoCAD 2000i Tutorial - Second Level: 3D Modeling

  • The First Appearance of Web 2.0
  • It is hard to pinpoint the moment of Web 2.0’s emergence – because there was not one. The was no release of a single new technology. There was no single economic insight or business model that completely disrupted existing markets. There was no industry consortium that defined a new standard. If forced to pick a moment, perhaps Google’s IPO will serve historically as the marker – in the same way that Netscape’s IPO’s is often used to signify the birth of the dot com era. At any rate, at some point over the past 12 to 18 months several factors have aligned and a there is now recognition that the companies and web services that are moving the internet market today share many common characteristics. Formally, “Web 2.0” as a label was first used by Tim O’Reilly and Dale Dougherty of O’Reilly Publishing. The story goes that the two were brainstorming about the shared characteristics of today’s successful internet companies compared with the characteristics of the pre-dotcom bubble companies of 2000. Their brainstorming led to the birth of a conference – Web 2.0 (http://www.web2con.com/web2con/), which was held in October of 2004. The evolution of internet focused companies and services in the 13 months since that conference have helped to reinforce – and extend - their observations. Web 2.0 Characteristics Ultimately, Web 2.0 is an industry buzzword. Like any buzzword, it’s usefulness can be debated because they are easily mis-used and misunderstood. For me, it is best to think of “Web 2.0” as a
  • Learning Maya is Child's Play Article
  • When 15-year-old Daniel Grigsby attended the 6th Form Open Evening, an event showcasing pre-university courses available for study, he had no idea his destiny was about to reveal itself. He immediately headed over to the ICT (Information and Communication Technology) stand with an air of curiosity and child-like excitement. “What’s Maya?” he asked the man behind the stand, as he pointed to a small book on the table. “It’s computer animation software. Films like Spider-Man®, The Lord of the Rings™ Trilogy and many others use it to create all kinds of special effects,” was the enthusiastic response. “I want to work in special effects,” Daniel almost whispered. His eyes were dancing as he picked up the book and lingered over its pages. “Well, you’ve come to the right place,” smiled the man. That was a year ago and the man behind the stand was Rob Jones, Digital Arts Facilitator and Maya instructor at Lewisham City Learning Centre (CLC). Daniel has since worked on two animated films and is preparing to attend Bournemouth University, a leading school in computer animation. “When I met Rob Jones by accident, I was very lucky. I am now able to learn this sophisticated software long before going to university,” says Daniel. “Having this experience has given me the encouragement to work hard to achieve my goal.” Download pdf Learning Maya is Child's Play
