  • Visual Studio 2008 Highlights
  • If you work with Microsoft technologies, most likely a portion of your development effort is taking place within Visual Studio, Microsoft’s flagship developer environment. Microsoft products such as SharePoint, Commerce Server, Exchange Server, BizTalk Server, Office, SQL Server, CRM, Windows Mobile Devices, and even the Xbox all support .NET development, and most have deep integration with Visual Studio. With the release of Visual Studio 2008, Microsoft has further enhanced the environment, and added support for new features. We’ll take a look at these enhancements, broken down into four groups: Environment, Designers, Language, and Products. Environment Multi-Targeting Build System One of the biggest complaints Microsoft received from customers upgrading from Visual Studio 2003 to Visual Studio 2005 was the lack of backward compatibility. Existing projects had to be upgraded to the new Visual Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0 formats, and could not be opened again in Visual Studio 2003. This made it more difficult for organizations who wanted to incrementally upgrade their environments. Microsoft took notice and made sure that the transition from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008 was less painful by making the build system compatible with the .NET Frameworks 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5. Further, existing solutions can continue to be developed in Visual Studio 2008 while still using the .NET Framework 2.0. Code Metrics Until now, developers independently determined their code's complexity and maintainability. This lack of standardized metrics often resulted in unwieldy code and less than ideal productivity. To help address this problem, Visual Studio 2008 Team System Development Edition includes Code

  • Installing and using the Message Box Knowledge Object for Authorware
  • This document assumes you have a copy of the Message Box KO installer. You can download the Message Box KO from the internet at: http://www.learningconsulting.com. Please contact AEC Consulting directly, for more information. The Message Box KO works with Authorware 5, 6 and 6.5. Please make sure that Authorware is installed and/or available before launching the installer. The installer for the Message Box KO is very simple. The only prompts that you typically need to follow are the “Next” and “Finish” buttons. To install the Message Box KO: 1. Double-click the Message Box KO installer file. 2. In the Welcome screen, click Next to install the KOs shown in Figure 1, below. 3. The Message Box KO installer tries to automatically find the location where Authorware is installed. If it is unable to determine this location, you may receive a prompt similar to Figure 2, to manually locate the Authorware folder. Otherwise, the installer immediately copies the necessary files to appropriate Authorware subfolders, see Figure 3. If the installer copies the Message Box KO files to a location other than the intended Authorware folder (i.e. Authorware is installed in more than one location), contact your vendor for more information. • Developing Applications with WebLogic SIP Server
  • The SIP Servlet API is a part of JAIN APIs and being standardized as JSR116 of JCP (Java Community Process). The SIP Servlet API version 1.0 was published in February, 2003. Note: In this document, the term “SIP Servlet” is used to represent the API, and “SIP servlet” is used to represent an application created with the API. J2EE provides Java Servlet that is a main technology of building Web applications. Although Java Servlet is used only to develop HTTP protocol-based applications on a Web application server, it basically has functions as a generic API for server applications. SIP Servlet is defined as the generic servlet API with SIP-specific functions added. SIP Servlets are very similar to HTTP Servlets, and HTTP servlet developers will quickly adapt to the programming model. The service level defined by both HTTP and SIP Servlets is very similar, and you can easily design applications that support both HTTP and SIP. Listing 1 shows an example of a simple SIP servlet. Listing 1-1 List 1: SimpleSIPServlet.java package com.bea.example.simple; import java.io.IOException; import javax.servlet.*; import javax.servlet.sip.*; public class SimpleSIPServlet extends SipServlet { protected void doMessage(SipServletRequest req) throws ServletException, IOException { SipServletResponse res = req.createResponse(200); res.send(); } } The above example shows a simple SIP servlet that sends back a 200 OK response to the SIP MESSAGE request. As you can see from the list, SIP Servlet and HTTP Servlet have many things in common: 1. Servlets must inherit the base class provided by the API. HTTP servlets must inherit HttpServlet, and SIP servlets must inherit SipServlet. 2. Methods doXxx must be overridden and implemented. HTTP servlets
