  • Encoding MPEG video using Mainconcept encoder (Mac)
  • This document describes how to create MPEG 1 or 2 video from a DV (AVI) source using Mainconcept MPEG encoding software. You should know whether your source is in PAL or NTSC format. Requirements: • Apple Macintosh (Mac OS X 10.2 or higher) • Enough free hard disk space (see note below) • Mainconcept MPEG Encoder 1.4.2 for Macintosh Create MPEG 1 or 2 video • Start the Mainconcept MPEG encoder application (mccoder). • For Video Source, select a DV file from your hard disk. • For “Format options”, click “Edit...” and select one of the MPI profiles from the MPEG profile menu (depending on your desired output: MPEG 1 or 2, PAL or NTSC) and click “OK”. • Choose a name and location for “Output file”.At the MPI we use different file extensions for MPEG 1 (.mpg) and MPEG 2 (.mpeg). • Click “Start encoding” in case you need to encode only one file. • Click the “Add to batchlist” button (+) in case you need to encode more files. • Repeat above steps to add more files to the batchlist and click “Start encoding” in the batch list to start encoding all files. Make sure to use different output names for each item in your batch list, otherwise files will be overwritten! • Encoding of MPEG 1 and 2 takes a long time, typically between 1 and 4 times the duration of the recording, depending on the speed of the computer. • Nikon M-22U Measuroscope with QC-5200 Software with Video Edge Detection
  • The Measuroscope is used to measure the lateral distance between two features on a substrate. The system uses video edge detection to reduce operator error by removing judgment inconsistencies. Resolution depends on magnification of objective and type of detection selected. Minimum resolution is 100 nm for 100x objective and video edge detection. Video Edge detection – Detects edges from distinct variations in field intensity – Must have objective selection on the screen the same as the objective in use. Probes • Singly ‘fired’ by pressing the center scroll button on the mouse. • Continuously fired by selecting ‘continuous fire’ on menu created by right clicking over video view. To acquire points: 1. Select a feature measurement (on upper center menu) or use Measure Magic 2. Select a probe a. One of those listed above, or b. New probe can be used by selecting a point or multiple points depending on if measuring a point, line, or arc/circle (1, 2, or 3 points, respectively). The last point selected should be ‘dragged’ across the edge by the mouse to create the proper probe. 3. Position the probe over the video image 4. Size the probe 5. Select direction of scan (light to dark, dark to light, or first edge) 6. Click the center mouse button to fire Download pdf Nikon M-22U Measuroscope with QC-5200 Software with Video Edge Detection

  • Building Loyalty in a Web 2.0 World
  • Over the last decade, a radical shift has occurred in the way customers interact with the marketplace. The traditional mode of using defined channels of communication has given way to a broad array of connection points.Along with this shift, today’s customers have come to expect a higher degree of transparency from firms providing products upon which they rely. Companies that are unsure how to engage in the new paradigm often meet this expectation of transparency with mixed signals. As traditional channels erode, and a broader community ecosystem emerges, companies must rethink their loyalty equation by understanding how to engage in the new environment. The new environment can drive even higher degrees of loyalty through enhanced customer involvement in many crucial aspects of an organization, including customer support, product management and engineering and marketing. Forward thinking companies realize that engaging in this new ‘web 2.0’ world requires more than just enabling new channels of communication, it requires a set of powerful tools to coordinate and manage every relevant interaction while providing intelligent feedback to all participants.Architected to enable this new paradigm, a trusted knowledge management suite can serve as a core technology that drives better interactions with your customer ecosystem by building a collaborative environment in which insights, ideas and knowledge can be shared to the benefit of all. Ultimately, this vibrant knowledge sharing leads to greater customer satisfaction and increased loyalty. The role of the customer evolves For decades, the support and marketing relationship between a company and its customers was well defined. Companies historically
  • Taming the Multi-core Beast
  • Professor Brian Vinter Concurrency vs. Parallelism Designing parallel systems is very hard • But sometimes necessary • Designing concurrent systems is surprisingly easy Concurrent systems can transparently utilize an underlying parallel system If your program is concurrent, and with sufficient concurrent operations, you don’t have to design for a specific number of processors Parallelism News flash: Moore’s law is dead since October 2004 This means that increased performance must come from using more processors How much of a Pentium 4 processor is actual processing power? Next generation processors are all multi-core Concurrency Concurrency it the natural way of things Serial algorithms are just the way we are trained… All (most) new CPUs are hardware threaded • Why? (hint: how far is a nano-second?) The basic assumption behind hardware threading is that your application is multithreaded • Otherwise there is little advantage Download Taming the Multi-core Beast
  • Queen’s Wifi Pilot User Guide Manual
  • Introduction An encrypted wireless network service has been implemented to offer users with their own laptops access to the University’s computer network. The service uses your QUB username and password for authentication. In order to protect your details, and the University network, the service will require you to install wireless client software on your machine. Queen’s has purchased a set number of licences so we need to record your email and staff/student number. You can still use your laptop on other networks, but you will need to disable the client software first. Once connected, you can browse the World Wide Web, and hence access your on- campus file store, and send and receive email. Use of the service is governed by the policies as set out at: http://www.qub.ac.uk/is/StaffComputing/ITServices/SecurityandAnti-Virus/SecurityPolicies/ This is a pilot service so users may suffer some teething problems. There may be short interruptions when new configurations are installed and when temporary equipment is being upgraded. See the webpage http://www.qub.ac.uk/is/StaffComputing/MobileComputing WirelessatQueens for information regarding any developments which may affect users. This wireless facility is in addition to the previous wireless service (through a remote server) and the laptop lending service. These are both still available in the Main and Science Libraries. • 1999-2005 Volkswagen GTI 1.8L Cold Air System Installation Instruction
  • The AEM Cold Air System is the result of extensive development on a wide variety of cars. Each system is engineered for the particular application. The AEM Cold Air System differs from all others in several ways. We take the inlet air from outside of the engine compartment where the inlet air is considerably cooler than the hot underhood air. The cooler inlet air temperature translates to more power during the combustion process because cool air is denser than warm air. AEM has conducted extensive inlet air temperature studies and we have seen temperature reductions of up to 50 degrees by pulling air from outside of the engine compartment. The air mass flow to the engine is increased because of the increased airflow and reduced inlet temperature, which translates to more power. The AEM Cold Air Systems are 50 states Street Legal (some models and years still pending) and come with complete instructions for ease of installation. Our system is constructed of lightweight aluminum and then painted with a zirconia based powder coat for superior heat insulating characteristics. The aluminum will not crack in extended use like plastic and it is actually lighter than plastic. The tube diameter and length are matched for each engine to give power over a broad rpm range. Unlike the plastic systems that use a continually diverging cross section, we take advantage of the acoustical energy in the duct to promote cylinder filling during the intake valve-opening event. Our Dyno testing as well as independent dyno tests (see
