Similar to the L-Edit guide, this guide does not provide an exhaustive reference to all the features of AutoCAD LT, as a complete documentation of these features is provided in the AutoCAD LT Help menu. Since this guide is focused on layout-driven design, many of AutoCAD’s features are superfluous as it is geared toward a very wide range of CAD applications. For layout, only a few features are required, which accelerates the learning curve of AutoCAD.
User Interface
The user interface provided by AutoCAD LT is similar to that of many other CAD and layout design software packages. Upon starting AutoCAD LT, a dialog is displayed asking whether the user wants to open or create a drawing. For the purposes of layout, we will “Start from Scratch” and create a metric drawing. Select this option from the menu as shown below.
At this point AutoCAD LT will display a white drawing area with a set of toolbars. The important buttons and features on these toolbars are shown in the figure below. Again, since we are only concerned with layout, the majority of AutoCAD’s design tools will be unnecessary.

Download manualConverting an AutoCAD Drawing into PDF FileIn this tutorial we will learn to create a PDF File from an AutoCAD drawing. There are four possible methods to bring an AutoCAD drawing into an Adobe Illustrator file.
Method 1. To directly place an AutoCAD drawing in the Illustrator file.
Method 2. Converting an AutoCAD drawing into a PDF format and placing the PDF in the Illustrator file.
Method 3. Copy and paste (only to be used if 1 and 2 are not successful)
Method 4. Save as an EPS
Method 1 is the simplest, as one can simply place the AutoCAD drawing in the Illustrator file by using the place command. However in this method the drawing is not at any particular scale and needs to be scaled manually using a scale bar as a reference. This process can be tedious and not highly accurate. Method 2 involves one extra step of making a PDF file out of the autocad drawing. The advantage in using this method is that the output PDF can be at the required scale. Thus when we place the PDF into the Illustrator file it is at the required scale and requires no further adjustments in terms of scale.
Creating a PDF:
Note: Adobe PDF writer / Acrobat distiller are required to be able to convert a drawing from AutoCAD to a PDF. Creating a PDF is similar to printing from AutoCAD, the only difference is to selection of the Adobe PDF writer or Acrobat distiller as the printer.

In this paper we study the practices of operators in a large-scale Internet service Amazon.com and propose a new set of tools for operators. The first tool lets the operators explore the health of system components and dependencies between them; the other monitors the actions of operators and automatically suggests solutions to recurring problems.
Large-scale Internet services invest significant amount of time and money to achieve high availability of their service, typically in the form of labor-intensive monitoring and response teams. Despite the high human resource expenditures, software and hardware failures still occur, and the human-intensive approach to monitoring and troubleshooting scales poorly as the service’s complexity and workload grow [1]. We hypothesize that the right kind of visualization and automation can reduce the human effort required for monitoring and repairing failures, allow operators to more quickly recognize a problem as recurrent, and facilitate better knowledge transfer in quickly-growing or high-turnover teams.
One of the authors spent three months working alongside the Amazon.com team responsible for real-time monitoring of hardware and software and for providing monitoring tools for the rest of the company. We collected quantitative data via interviews and surveys and analyzed the data in the trouble ticket database that contains information about
