  • Editing SGML Documents With Emacs Text Editor Tutorial Manual
  • Emacs (pronounced ee-max) started off in 1976 as a series of editor macros (hence its name) written by Richard Matthew Stallman for the TECO text editor on the DEC PDP-10 minicomputer. Since becoming its own program separate from TECO, it has become extremely popular and widely used for two main reasons: first, free versions of Emacs are available for nearly every computer in existence; second, it’s completely customizable. Many text editors and word processors claim to be completely customizable. Some let you reassign each key’s purpose, and they let you assign a series of operations to be performed by one or two keystrokes or menu choices. Perhaps this series of operations can have loops of repeated statements and if statements that execute one or another group of instructions based on whether a particular condition is true. If so, the editor’s proponents claim that its macro facility features a full-fledged programming language. This is usually an exaggeration, but not with Emacs. • AJAX Design Strategies
  • Web applications have entered a new era driven by web site goals such as fast response to user actions and user collaboration in creating and sharing web site content. The popular term attributed to these highly responsive and often collaborative sites is Web 2.0. Some prime examples of Web 2.0 are web sites such as Google Maps and Flickr. Google Maps offers a highly responsive user interface (UI). For instance, you can view a map, then move your cursor across it to see adjacent areas almost immediately. Flickr is a site on which users store and share photographs -- users manage almost all the site's content. Other Web 2.0 sites provide a similarly rich user experience by doing things such as integrating services from other web sites or incorporating a steady stream of new information. For example, the Google map service can be brought into another web site, such as a site for purchasing cars, to present a map that highlights the location of auto dealerships that sell a particular car model. The term used for these site integrations is "mashups." Or a sports-oriented site can continually update scores without requiring the user to request a page update. What is AJAX? A number of excellent articles that describe AJAX are available, for example, Asynchronous JavaScript Technology and XML (AJAX) With Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition. In brief, AJAX is a set of technologies that together allows a web site to be -- or appear to be -- highly responsive. AJAX enables this because
  • DOS Programming Part II
  • DOS Secrets To program well, you have to know more about your hardware and DOS internals. This book is neither a hardware book nor a beginners’ book. So I would slightly touch the hardware and DOS internals in this chapter. In many Institutions hardware & software are being taught as different subjects. And people don’t know how both are related. For system programming you must know the relationship between the two. This chapter will help you to understand why a programmer should know hardware & DOS internals for DOS programming. 14.1 Prelude DOS (Disk Operating System) is the widely used operating system. It is a single-user operating system. DOS is designed to provide an easy way to use disks for storage. It is very efficient in controlling, accessing and managing the data from disk drives. The basic operations performed by DOS are regulate space allocation, keep track of files, save and retrieve files and manage other control functions associated with disk storage. Thus using DOS an interface is made between the user and the computer. This DOS is same for all the systems. For loading this DOS to the memory BIOS, bootstrap program, diagnostic testing programs are very essential and we will discuss it in the coming sections. Download pdf DOS Programming Part II
  • Get your Roadmap to Web 3.0
  • The semantic wave is a “long wave” of innovation and investment that embraces four stages of internet growth. The first stage, Web 1.0, was about connecting information and getting on the net. Web 2.0 is about connecting people — putting the “I” in user interface, and the “we” into webs of social participation. The next stage, web 3.0, is starting now. It is about representing meanings, connecting knowledge, and putting them to work in ways that make our experience of internet more relevant, useful, and enjoyable. Web 4.0 will come later. It will be about connecting intelligences in a ubiquitous web where both people and things can reason and communicate together. What does web 3.0 mean for technology markets? Over the next decade the semantic wave will spawn multi-billion dollar technology markets that drive trillion dollar global economic expansions to transform industries as well as our experience of the internet. The Semantic Wave 2008 report examines the drivers and market forces for adoption of semantic technologies in web 3.0. They are building. How is Web 3.0 different from previous stages of internet evolution? Semantic Wave 2008 tells the story of web 3.0. The basic shift is from information-centric to knowledge-centric patterns of computing. All computing processes represent knowledge in some way to process information. For example: knowledge of how the information is organized; rules that tell a computer program how to make a decision; or action steps of a procedure. However, until now knowledge has been expressed separately in the form of documents, structural

  • How to create a dynamic maelstrom in Maya 8.X
  • A tutorial on how to make an animated giant whirlpool with foam and spray. Inspiration from Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End. 1. Start by creating a NURBS or a polygon plane. NURBS is propably best, but I used polygons on this one. Make it a high resolution, like 80x80. 2. Go into Polygons>Mesh>Sculpt Geometry Tool. Or if using NURBS go into Surfaces>Edit NURBS>Sculpt Geometry. 3. Model a valley in the middle of your plane. 4. Select your plane and go to Animation>Deform>Create Nonlinear>Twist. Resize the deformer, so that it fits just like on the image to the right. 5. Start playing with the Start Angle under the derformer’s attributes. After finding a suitable value, then start sizing the plane. As we scale it through the y-axis, the deformed plane will now twist like a whirlpool. 6. Go to frame 1 and extend the duration of your timeline. I went with 400 frames. At frame 1 keyframe the scale of the y-axis. Size to the point, where you want the shape to begin. Then go to frame 400 and scale the y-axis out, so that the malstroem will be at its final state. Key- frame and watch the animation. Simple, but if done properly it looks cool. • How to Use Error Messages: Use the error codes displayed on the screen to diagnose failures. If more than one error code is displayed, begin the diagnosis with the first error code. The cause of the first error code can result in false error codes being displayed. If no error code is displayed, see if the error symptom is listed in the Symptom-to-FRU Index for the computer you are servicing.
