One of the largest software projects ever undertaken, Vista is indisputably a milestone—despite Microsoft’s having abandoned many of its most ambitious goals for the OS and not just for Microsoft but for the entire PC industry. Of course, Vista is not without its skeptics. PC makers say it will require more processing power, graphics capabilities, and memory than is typical of today’s mainstream machines. Software vendors complain that Vista’s vaunted security features are, in fact, locking them out.
Users may wonder if it offers enough that’s truly new to be worth the bother particularly given that a number of Vista features and bundled applications are also available for Windows XP. We’ve performed extensive, hands-on analysis of Vista and sorted out the claims to help you decide whether, or more realistically when, to make the move—and to show you what you can expect when you do.—next: The Vista Promise > The Vista Promise Microsoft calls Vista “a breakthrough computing experience.” That’s marketing hyperbole, for sure, but it’s not entirely unfounded. The new OS is far more than Windows XP with a pretty new face. Many aspects of Vista are substantive improvements: stronger security, better built-in apps, networking enhancements, parental controls, and DirectX 10 graphics support, to name just a few. As a whole, Vista feels more evolutionary than revolutionary. That’s not all bad; one of Microsoft’s strengths has been its commitment to backward compatibility,How to Import Shapefiles into Microsoft AccessThis tutorial demonstrates how to import an ESRI shapefile into an Access database using the ArcCatalog. Microsoft Access databases are compatible with ArcGIS, as tables within Access databases can be directly accessed by ArcGIS and added to ArcMap. When geographic boundary files are exported to an Access database, the database can then serve as a personal geodatabase: a container for organizing and storing multiple geographic boundary files and data tables. (see the How to Import Data into Microsoft Access tutorial for importing data tables into Access).
If you do not already have an Access database where you intend to export the shapefile to, the first step is to create an empty database file (see the beginning of the How to Import Data into Microsoft Access tutorial for instructions on creating a new database). NOTE – if you are using ArcGIS 9.2, you MUST create the database within Arc Catalog by right-clicking in the table of contents, clicking new, and new personal geodatabase. You cannot import geospatial data into an Access database that was not created with ArcGIS 9.2. If you plan on using the database for just holding and working with tabular data, or you are using an earlier version of ArcGIS (8.3 to 9.1), you can safely create a database within Access, Windows Explorer, or ArcGIS, and it will work as a geodatabase.
Once you have a database, the next step is to open the ArcCatalog, and drill down to the directory that has the shapefile. In this example, we areApache POI - HWPF - Java API to Handle Microsoft Word FilesHWPF is the name of our port of the Microsoft Word 97(-2007) file format to pure Java. It does not support the new Word 2007 .docx file format, which is not OLE2 based. HWPF is still in early development. It is in the scratchpad section of the SVN. You will need to ensure you either have a recent SVN checkout, or a recent SVN nightly build (including the scratchpad jar!)
Source in the org.apache.poi.hwpf.model tree is the old legacy code refactored into an object model. Source code in the org.apache.poi.hwpf.extractor tree is a wrapper of this to facilitate easy extraction of interesting things (eg the Text). Source code in the org.apache.poi.hdf tree is the old legacy code.
At the moment we unfortunately do not have someone taking care for HWPF and fostering its development. What we need is someone to stand up, take this thing under his hood as his baby and push it forward. Ryan Ackley, who put a lot of effort into HWPF, is no longer on board, so HWPF is an orphan child waiting to be adopted.
If you are interested in becoming the new HWPF pointman, you should look into the Microsoft Word internals. A good starting point seems to be Ryan Ackley's overview. This document contains a link to a detailled Word format description you can find somewhere at http://www.wotsit.org/. Please do not contact Ryan Ackley directly, because he is working for a company now that signed a NDA with Microsoft and thus he will be no longerAnimania PDFAnimania is a catalogue of ready-to-use Animal models and motions. If you have built your own models and boned it or set up a segmented model for animation, you know it takes a long time and can be quite challenging. Animania provides models that are already set-up for animation. The mesh models have been boned, and the segmented models have been linked and set up for you. Moreover, each animal model comes with matching motions that you can use right away.
Currently, Animania is available for: For Model setup Life Forms Segmented model in .lfa file format 3D Studio Max Mesh model boned in Bones Pro2 3D Studio Max Segmented model in .Max file format LightWave 3D & Inspire 3D Mesh model boned in LightWave LightWave 3D & Inspire 3D Segmented model in .Lws file format.

The following section outlines the minimum recommended computer requirements for the WWRE®’s member companies and their trading partners. The first two sections, “Internet Access” and “Hardware”, outline recommendations that are to some extent flexible. For example, the WWRE recommends a computer with a CPU clock speed of 400 MHz.
This means that a computer with a CPU clock speed of 366 MHz can be used, but it may result in a slight degradation in performance. The reverse applies as well. A computer with a faster clock speed, more memory, or a faster dedicated network connection should also experience better than average performance.
The sections titled “Operating Systems” and “Browsers” are less flexible. These sections outline specific information on the supported Internet browsers and machine operating systems for the Auctions application. Using a browser or operating system outside of the supported list could result in application anomalies or errors

Therefore, the path for handling enforcement is different, focusing on server enforcement and standards-based switch enforcement. The original intent of MS-NAP was not security, but to find and quarantine non-compliant clients in the enterprise LAN. As the interest in NAC has increased, Microsoft has adjusted their architecture to include more enforcement mechanisms. In early 2007, the Trusted Computing Group (TCG) and Microsoft announced interoperability between TNC and NAP thus opening the door for a single unified Network Access Control client
It’s important to realize that MS-NAP is part of Microsoft’s Server 2008 product, previously codenamed Longhorn, and of Windows Vista. The soon to be released Service Pack 3 for Windows XP will also include MS-NAP functionality.

Following the common NAC architecture, the Microsoft client side is broken into three parts. At the top are the System Health Agents, taking on the function of collecting end-point security information about the client, such as the state of the anti-virus software or whether the firewall has the right policy. Microsoft has provided a System Health Validator, and many 3rd parties have declared their intent to provide System Health Validators of their own.
These agents are responsible for generating Statements of Health that can be used to assess end-point security. Tying the System Health Agents into the rest of the architecture is Microsoft’s Network Access ProtectionHow to setup and secure Snort, MySQL and Acid on FreeBSD 4.7 ReleaseThis document will help a user install FreeBSD 4.7 Release, Snort 1.9.0, MySQL 3.23.53, and ACID-0.9.6b21. It will also guide the user through the process of securing the machine and getting the snort sensor(s) to log to a central database over stunnel. The intention is to give users that are new to any of the software the opportunity to build an enterprise-class system based completely on free, open-source tools. Following the instructions in this document will get you the following:
• Multiple FreeBSD boxes, one running the Windowmaker desktop. I chose Windowmaker because the intention of this tutorial is to create dedicated Snort machines. In other words Gnome and KDE are overkill for what we are doing here (and it looks nice).
• Locked-down machines (C2 in 2002!). I tried to be responsible with the securing of these boxes, but this is not a definitive guide to securing FreeBSD; there are several links to those at the end. If I have missed something obvious, feel free to point it out (nicely please) with your suggestion on exactly how to fix it.
• Multiple Snort sensors logging to a central MySql server/viewing station.
• An easy method of updating your software via the ports collection.
• The fastest NIDS for your money.
