Function of the S-Video Balun The function of the S-Video Balun is to allow traditional S-Video coaxial cable to be replaced by Category 5 (or better) twisted pair cable for more cost-effective cabling.
Used in pairs, the S-Video Balun allows S-Video display equipment to be located up to 1000 feet (305m) from the S-Video source, thus exceeding standard S-Video cable distance limitations which is approximately 300 feet (90m). Nonetheless, two control lights are provided on an operator panel at the front. They are useful to control the basic operation of the DDP Server. The operator panel also contains the standby button for switching the DDP Server on or off. For saving energy while the DDP Server is not used, DDP Server provides an additional power switch at the rear.
Furthermore, a small button is provided at the rear for special functions. This is only needed for setup and maintenance purposes.
The elements on the front side have the following functions:
• Standby button: This button allows you to power on or shut down the DDP Server.
To power on or shut down the DDP Server, press this button shortly. A regular shut down includes closing the job and queue database. When the DDP Server is running, you may force power down by holding the standby button for more than 4 seconds. However, you should force power-down only if the DDP Server does not react otherwise, as in this way the database is not closed and loss of the stored data may result. For the same reason, do not switch off the DDP Server by means of the power switch at the rear before performing a regular shutdown using the standby button.

The conclusion I’ve come to is that their significance lies in their ability to allow the average user to organize online information in such a way that is useful, meaningful and personally relevant. They help people navigate the virtual world and find what they are looking for. They do this by leveraging key characteristics of the Web for a variety of different forms of communication. They can tackle the Web’s inherent problem (unfathomable amounts of information) by capitalizing of its inherent possibilities (collective intelligence, wide variety of types of knowledge, social networks – all the potential benefits of millions of people sharing a virtual space).
