GPS Pupils’ guide Introduction to the Global Positioning System Finding location If you look at a map of the world in an atlas, the planet will be covered with a series of grid lines. These grid lines measure latitude and longitude, which is a positioning system used to measure location. In the past, to calculate your location using these numbe was a long mathematical process. Today, however, the easiest way of calculating your latitude and longitude is to use a hand held GPS (Global Positioning System) unit. GPS data is crucial to the GLOBE Programme. You need to know your precise location when you collect data so that your position can be accurately pinpointed, wherever you are on the globe. However, the GPS is not entirely accurate: it has an in-built error which mea that if you were to take just one reading, there is a possibility that it would

For this and subsequent homework, a short tutorial will introduce you to the critical functions one may use in Civil 3D to do highway design. This is by no means an exhaustive discussion of the subject, but should be enough to get you started. Additional questions can be directed to the instructor (although he is by no means an expert).
You should run AutoCAD Civil 3D 2009. If prompted, indicate that you will use Civil 3D Complete, as this will provide you with access to all the Civil 3D functions we will need. Once you have started, you will then see something like the following screen.
We will eventually get through quite a few of the menus and functions. For this homework, we will use Surfaces, Alignments, and Profiles. This sequence of menu options actually fits the sequence in the homework nicely, so we will proceed through them one by one.
I find that it is useful for me to open up the “Toolspace”. The Toolspace is a visual repository of the major geometric features that we will be using, and it allows you to manipulate these features directly, rather than (or in addition to) going through the usual top-level menu structure. The Toolspace can be added to the screen by going to General -> Toolspace. The Toolspace is shown below.

You may need your Internet access information. The P-660HW is referred to as “the Prestige” in this guide. See your User’s Guide for background information on all features.
This guide is divided into the following sections.
1 Hardware Connections
2 Configuration for Internet Access
3 Wireless Configuration
4 NAT
5 Firewall
6 Troubleshooting
1 DSL: Connect the Prestige to a telephone jack using a telephone wire.
2 LAN: Use an Ethernet cable to connect a computer to a LAN 10/100M port for initial configuration and/or Internet access.
3 POWER: Use the included power adaptor to connect the POWER socket to an appropriate power source (see the User’s Guide for power adaptors specifications by region).
After you’ve made the connections, push in the power button to turn on the Prestige. Look at the front panel LEDs. The PWR/SYS LED blinks while performing system testing. The PWR/SYS and/or WLAN LEDs then turn steady on if the testing is successful. The LAN LED turns on if the LAN port is properly connected.

We also recommend downloading the MySQL Control Center from the downloads page. It's currently in beta stage but allows you to administer your MySQL server with a graphical user interface. We will cover both ways of administration in this guide.
Installation of MySQL Server
Unzip the setup file and execute setup.exe. You can just keep all the default options during the installation, but you may skip the examples, libraries etc:
