Beginners Guide MayaIn this beginners guide we discuss how to build a simple humanoid character and how to animate it. It was not our intention to give a step-by-step guide on how to build a character and how to animate it, because there is extensive amount of literature available on this. This guide can be used next to the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” book as a source for more information and explanation. We found that although the book is very clear on what actions to do and what the actions will result in, it lacked somewhat in explaining the meaning of concepts and the reasons for performing actions.
In this guide, we first give an explanation of the Maya interface and the main interface elements that are important for character building and animation.
We then follow the “Learning Maya 5 Foundation” subjects on building and animating a humanoid character. First building the basic character by creating a skeleton, adding geometries, flexors and selection handles. Then preparing the character for animation, by adding controls for movements with expressions, rotate planes and vector constraints. Then animating the character by creating character nodes, keyframes, linear animation, non-linear animation and non-destructive keys (secondary animation) and the Maya Embedded Language (MEL). In the last part we discuss shortly the use of cameras, lighting, texturizing, rendering.

Download PDFHow to Connect Technology and Passion in the Service of LearningThe digital age has vastly expanded people's access to all sorts of information and resources, including educational materials. The Internet has also fostered a new culture of sharing, one in which content is freely contributed and distributed with few restrictions. Indeed, the latest evolution of the Internet, Web 2.0, is creating a new kind of participatory medium that is ideal for encouraging multiple types of learning.
Web 2.0 has blurred the line between producers and consumers of content and has shifted attention from access to information toward access to other people. New kinds of online resources — social-networking sites, blogs, wikis, and virtual communities — have allowed people with common interests to meet, share ideas, and collaborate in innovative ways.
Two of those ways involve social learning, based on the premise that our understanding of content is socially constructed, through conversations about that content and through interactions around problems or actions. The focus is not so much on what we learn as on how we learn. In addition, social learning concerns not only "learning about" the subject matter but also "learning to be" full participants in the field. That involves acquiring the practices and norms of established practitioners in that field or acculturating into a community of practice, such as an open-source community, where you are required to assimilate the sensibilities and ways of seeing the world embodied within that community. That culture of sharing and participation usually starts with the students themselves, as we see vividly in the complex, multiplayer gameHP LaserJet P2015 Series User Guide - ENWWIf Manual Duplex does not appear as a printer option, perform the following steps:. a. DownloadAdvantages of Broadband Phone Services PDFWhy are so many people subscribing to broadband phone services, either as an additional phone line or as a complete replacement to their traditional phone service? The primary reason is cost. But as you will see, other advantages exist as well.
Lowering Your Monthly Phone Bill
What attracted most people to voip or Voice over IP, even when the quality was still questionable, was the fact that you could make free and unlimited long-distance calls. Now that the quality is good, and the calls are still relatively inexpensive, so much the better. How low is low? We examine different service plans available in Chapter 7, “Selecting an Internet Phone Service.” The bottom line is, you can get a broadband phone service with unlimited calling and no nationwide long-distance charges (international calls do cost extra) for $25–30 a month.
How can broadband companies offer phone services more cheaply than the traditional phone companies?
The following four primary factors make broadband phone services so inexpensive:
- Infrastructure costs
- Transport costs
- Regulatory compliance costs
- Taxes and fees

Crystal Reports .NET OverviewCrystal Reports has enjoyed a long association with Microsoft and has shipped with Visual Basic (and subsequently Visual Studio) as the default report writer since 1993. Developers have traditionally had a love-hate relationship with Crystal Reports; they loved the functionality it provided and the free run-time license, but they hated having to upgrade to the latest version to get the features they required. Another complaint was that reports could not be created or modified programmatically; they could be created only through the user interface (UI) with either the developer UI with Visual Studio or the consumer UI with the Crystal Reports retail package.
Just as the release of Visual Studio .NET 2002 represented a significant leap for the Microsoft development platform, the release of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET was also a milestone for the Crystal Decisions development team. Following the Microsoft .NET strategy, they redevel- oped the product to take advantage of the .NET Framework and made it a fully featured product in its own right; developers no longer have to wait to upgrade to the latest release to get the features they need.
When Visual Studio was upgraded recently to Visual Studio .NET 2003, the version of Crystal Reports that ships inside the box was also updated. In this chapter, we are going to take a first look at Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET 2003 (Crystal Reports .NET), examining how the product is different from other versions of Crystal Reports, how to find and run the sample applicationsVolvo Children in Cars Safety ManualChildren in Cars has been produced by Volvo Car Corporation to help all those who carry child passengers – parents, taxi drivers, or anyone else – reach a better understanding of child safety matters. Editor: Tatiana Butovitsch Temm, Volvo Car Corporation THE PREGNANT CRASH-TEST DUMMY Researchers and car manufacturers already know a great deal about how best to protect adults and children in car accidents. But they still know surprisingly little about what happens to unborn babies. The Volvo Car Corporation has been carefully investigating the special safety and comfort needs of pregnant women since 2001.
Through this research, we have built a unique computer model of a pregnant crash test dummy named ”Linda”. BETTER UNDERSTANDING We continue to use Linda as a tool for reaching a better understanding of the injuries pregnant women and their babies can experience in a crash.
